    No clue...maybe drugs?

Sucks for him. I rooted like crazy for him when he burst back onto the scene with the Reds. Seeing him slim down so much showed me that he clearly was a roider and I stopped rooting for him but I hope it is not too bad, whatever this news is.

I imagine the Angels will be relieved if they dont have to pay his contract. He stunk it up last year.

per SB Nation, 80 games for "drugs of abuse"

don't know what that means and don't know if it's credible.

Damn. I think they get some chances in recreational drugs so this might be multiple failed tests
  • Since Hamiltons reinstatement, he was subjected to drug and alcohol tests 3 times a week. We know of at least 2 relapses. So he's already failed drug tests in the past for recreational use.

I feel bad for the guy. Someone that is a recovering heroin addict can't have any sort of pain killers. When recovering from surgeries, it's got to be difficult to not want something to kill the pain. The guy really needs his support system in a time like this.

Hear hamilton had relapse. Believe occurred a couple months back. Involved at least cocaine. Honorably, he confessed. -- Jon Heyman

Because he is a drug addict.
    Damn shame.

  • Can't blame the dealer. He knew where to get it. What self respecting drug dealer is going to turn down a client like Hamilton?

Doesn't he have a minder? The Rangers hired a staff person to keep him out of trouble, not that it always worked.

    It is a disease...Right?
    Nobody to blame.

Isnt that what I am to believe? Addiction is a disease. Therefore I find it strange that he would be banned from playing baseball. You certainly are not going to ban a player for having the measles. Right?

Yeah, I just felt like going there. Hahahahaha

    Who is to blame?

i'm not even sure what rob is talking about but if he is around "old friends" i have to wonder why and how no one in his life knew
  • His former teammates here are expressing a lot of concern for him. They always gave him a lot of support. There were some rumors that the Angels wanted to unload him and talked with the Rangers GM about sending him back and paying most of his salary, which is mind boggling if it's true. Not a good idea.

I think there have always been more problems with him relapsing than fans realized. You never seemed to hear about it until quite a while after the fact.

Would your employer keep you around if you failed at least 3 drug tests? Professional sports may be the only profession that allows multiple failed drug tests without being fired. Disease or not.

I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic.

if I fail one drug test I would probably never be able to drive a semi again. No company would touch me for 5 years minimum.

Actually I was just curious as to what everyone's belief was as far as drug addiction being a disease.

How much control can something have over you? Josh Hamilton has something like $90 million that could very easily go down the drain if goes back, and he does. 90 fucking million fucking dollars and all you have to do is stay sober and swing a bat. I can't imagine what that feels like

  • Even with a disease or disability, you can be fired if you can't do your job. One difference (among many! ) between his job and yours, Speedy, is the potential to harm others if he's high at work.

Of course he's also very well paid! I understand his contract requires him to be tested 3 times a week.

I'm kinda with Rob, I don't think he wants to relapse.

yep, gotta have a way to insure your $125M investment as well.....I would imagine the Angels have an out clause.
