Ooh, I second this. There's also a Menchanko on the East side, 45th & Lex.

I'm excited about eating some NYC food. I am a vegetarian living in a rural area of the Midsouth - not many good food options for me. We have BBQ places on every corner.

Ooh, plenty of veggie options! You're not vegan are you? There's even a great vegan cupcake place! For starters, here are some good ones, where you can eat EVERYTHING on the menu:

    Franchia: Korean tea house http://www.franchia.com/index.htm
Madras Mahal (or most Indian places, for that matter): http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/madras-mahal/
    Vegetarian Dim Sum House: http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/ve ... sum-house/
    Babycakes (vegan bakery): http://babycakesnyc.com/

If I lived in NYC I would be a vegan. But at this point I am only a veggie. If I was a vegan I would have to cook all of my own food or eat lettuce everytime I ate out.

Thanks for the suggestions. They are all going on my list.

Oh hell, why not just do a food tour: http://www.foodsofny.com/

And this too, it seems more affordable: http://walkingtoursmanhattan.com/. For current NYC residents, there's an Easter Chocolate tour this Sunday!

I've always wanted to do one of them, just never got round to it!

For those of you who have a few extra bucks and want to go to some of the higher end (according to Zagats) restaurants around town, Zagat has a listing of Lunch specials for $35 and under per person at some of the most wonderful places for food, decor and service in the city... And these will include some of your favorite chefs from the food network... Stop in a book store and peruse the front section and look for lunch specials under $35... now trust me there are lots of great places where you can do better but sometimes it's worth it to splurge a little...

I'm leaning towards staying in Jersey City for the concert. I'm staying for the entire long weekend (Canada) and at four nights, NYC is going to be too expensive, even though Priceline. I can get a beautiful 4* hotel for a heck of a lot less in Jersey City than a 3* in NYC.

Anyway, I know the train runs fairly late (I think 1:30ish), but does anyone about how much a cab to Jersey City from the MSG area would cost? Thanks!

and y'all have a pretty fabulous view
theres both a hyatt (exchange place path stop) and a brand new westin (newport path stop) along the jersey city waterfront
Stay at the Westin... Directly across the street from one of my offices and it is pretty nice...

Good to hear, because that's what I won on Priceline today. :)

    $90 a night. I can't complain about that.

Yes, plenty of cheap, good eats in NYC if you know where to look!.

Yes - if you're just looking for sustenance at a cheap price, bagel and coffee off one of the many carts in the city will set you back only $2.00. Falafel sandwiches off the many carts cost usually $3.00. I love NYC, and go as much as possible, so I have to each as cheap as possible to cover it.

I will totally check out Babycakes for vegan cupcakes in May when I'm back down there. We just went down to the city this weekend and New York was be-a-utiful and in Spring!

That reminds me..... do people actually swim in any of the waters in NYC (open water - not pools)?

The Beast sounds like fun, but we would probably get to see more on the big slow boat.

only cosmo kramer swims in the east river

but both the east and hudson rivers have currents that will drown mike phelps in a few minutes so the answer is pretty much no

the only people in the water usually jump from a bridge or are dumped with cement shoes

Ha! I thought of Kramer and his swimming, but couldn't remember what body of water it was.

I googled it and saw there is a group that swim from the beach at Coney Island.

    http://www.cibbows.org/index.html

I doubt if we will do any swimming, but I always check it out just in case. We do triathlons, but I am not all that good of a swimmer, especially when there are waves. I'm better in lakes, ponds, and rivers.
