The players’ union still is willing to file a collusion grievance on Barry Bonds’ behalf, union chief Michael Weiner told The Chronicle.

Weiner, executive director of the players’ association, said the union could file the grievance once Bonds’ legal matter is resolved — he appealed his obstruction of justice conviction.

Bonds hit 28 home runs and led the National League in on-base percentage in 2007 and received no offers for 2008, and his agent, Jeff Borris, argued clubs acted in concert against Bonds.

“There’s a potential grievance,” Weiner said.

For now, Weiner said, he’d like to see Bonds return to the game.

“I’d love to see Barry work in baseball in any capacity he’d like,” Weiner said. “Barry Bonds is not just a multitalented player but a multitalented individual. It would be wonderful to see him in whatever capacity he’d like to work in.”

Bonds said in late May during a visit to a Giants game he’d like to return to the team in a coaching role, perhaps a limited one. I asked Bud Selig today if he’d object to the seven-time MVP returning to his old organization, and the commissioner said, “That’s up to Barry Bonds and the San Francisco Giants.”
