We are watching the last trade causality in Wheeler start living up the expectations and all we have to show for it is to watch Beltran play elsewhere. The Liriano trade still pisses me off 10 years later.
absolutely....but EVERYONE was screaming for Beltan. sabean was damned if he did; damned if he didn't. Liriano was an awful trade but did anyone really see nathan becoming an elite closer?...I didn't. and pierzynski has been a great fit just about every place OTHER than SF.
Then again, the whole "who's a closer?" is a whole nuther topic. Romo certainly doesn't fit the established mold (that's why strike 3 to Cabrera was so fucking awesome!).

The 2010 WS will always be special since it was the 1st in 50+ years but the 2012 one was better to me. I thought we had a great shot to win it once we got past the Phillies in 2010 and we saw just how hot all the pitching was at the same time. In 2012 I changed all my sports stuff at work from the Giants to the 49ers when we went down 0-2 in the first round assuming we were toast and because it was putting me in a bad mood ever time I looked up and saw all the logos everywhere. Once we got hot I couldn't change it back to jinx it and just rode the wave.

Bochy just proved he cares about one thing and one thing only. Winning. Now that the no no is over, pulling Timmy with a no hitter intact. Wow.
that's all I care about too. Timmy already has a no hitter . wish he could have a gotten the "W" but at least his ERA continues to drop. good series after dropping the opener.

Big game tonight. Glad they snuck out a win yesterday. Wainwright has been the best pitcher this season so far. Bum is gonna have to hold them to 1 or 2 runs to have a chance for the win.
Lead is at 6 1/2. Go Giants!

As the Giants' season heads toward summer, and Pablo Sandoval finds himself fully back in character, the issue of his expiring contract becomes pressing for Brian Sabean, top executive Bobby Evans and team President Larry Baer.
I'm starting to wonder if there's any legitimate reason to say goodbye.
As a player, as a person, as a Giants institution - whatever the category, Sandoval is an absolute mainstay. All of the whining and complaining has grown terribly old. Stop belittling the man and realize what he means to the team, for now and the future. Get this contract done before autumn brings the lunacy of the free-agent market.
If Sandoval and his agent really want to sit at the big boys' table, trying to squeeze every cent (and extra year) out of the highest bidder, they're on their own. If some blundering billionaire wants to offer seven years and $2 billion (wait, that's the Clippers' selling price, but you never know these days), then they can sign up, puff out their chests and lurch into the great unknown - perhaps a city that really isn't to Sandoval's liking, or some American League team that wants to take away his glove.
Sandoval belongs in San Francisco, where he owns two World Series rings and counting. Where Panda hats still grace the stands. Where his regressions have always been forgiven. Where his relentlessly upbeat nature makes him an integral part of the Giants' secret weapon: a cohesive, fun-loving clubhouse.
This is all quite easy to say now, with Sandoval on a magnificent hitting tear. Still, is anyone really surprised? Sandoval is that rare individual who handles great pitching, with ease. He lit up Justin Verlander for two World Series home runs. He sprays line drives all over the field, from both sides of the plate. What he did to Jeff Samardzija the other day, jacking a nasty low-and-in slider into the right-field arcade, was just obscene. There is genius in his hands.
Sandoval is lucky to be playing for the Giants because manager Bruce Bochy and hitting coach Hensley Meulens have such an open mind. Stuck with a team obsessed with advanced analytics, Sandoval would be ridiculed for his any-pitch-in-a-storm approach. Instead, he hears this from Meulens: "We don't want him to be taking pitches and working walks. Every hitter is different. Attack with your strengths."
When people grouse about Sandoval's girth, they apparently aren't watching when he holds his ground to take a screaming one-hopper off his chest in the manner of all good third basemen, or shows his remarkable agility on dives for the ball. They forget that he plays with passion, 100 percent of the time. All of it counts - and will be missed, gravely, if he departs.
Maybe I'm naive, but I'd like to think Sandoval would be willing to calm down his agent and agree to a five-year deal - before the All-Star break. I'm not good with salary numbers; they'll figure it out. He'll be set for life. Big risk for Sabean? No question, but he's done it before - reward the player and the person - without regret. It's a game plan that represents the very essence of the Giants' success.

They reward their own. I hope it continues with Sandoval and they work something out with him. Their will be very little quality 3rd baseman on the market next off-season. Sandoval will get paid and we will end up having to trade crick or someone else for a mid tier guy. Pay him.
My fear right now is the salary level we are at. Baer has been amazing and just keeps raising the budget for player salaries. I hope he doesn't get commissioner and so we don't lose him. I would have never thought 5 years ago we would be in the top 5. At some point though they have to hit a ceiling with it.
I did remember reading years ago the Giants were dumping every extra penny they could come up with into the stadium payments to get ahead on the mortgage. McGowan had said they were doing it so if a window opened where they thought they had a core that could win consistently they could stop making payments and use that money for players. That was years ago so I could be misremembering (shout out to Roger) but I swear I read or heard that.

I love East Coast/Mid West day games when living on the West Coast. Nice to have a smile the second half of the day after another Giants win. Cincy has killed them (minus the 2012 playoffs) over the past 5 seasons. They just cant win in Cincy for whatever reason, especially with Leake on the mound.
They are definitely rolling. Would love to see the lead get to double digits before the Puig's get their shit together and try and make this an actual competition. I'm getting the feeling they have one of those win 18 out of 20 streaks coming soon where you can make up multiple games in just a few weeks.
Its is also fun living in Phoenix this season. I love seeing them fall apart when they fancied themselves WS contenders before the season started. Rumor is Towers is canned right after the draft this weekend. There wasnt enough time to get a new GM and scouting done before hand so they are waiting until after the draft.
