    did that really happen???

I've been a fan my whole life and I still can't believe it. yesterday, I was too trashed to even form a coherent sentence  . in the aftermath, our bar was littered with guiness, bud light, scotch, irish whisky, vodka and tequilla (yes, tequilla  )

cubs fans always talk about bartman. the giants seemed to have a bartman moment (or three) EVERY time they made the playoffs.

1971 - I don't remember much, but know that some dude named bob robertson hit 4 HRs for the pirates. Mays, Marichal and McCovey = a 3-1 series defeat.

1987 - giants have a 3-2 games lead on the cardinals. I was there...I got a DUI after game 5 and spent the night in jail  . candy maldonado loses a flyball in the sun in game 6...cardinals win 1-0. in game 7, jose fucking oquendo hits a 3 run HR after hitting ONE all year. just like aaaron fucking boone and bucky fucking dent, he sends the giants home as losers.

1989 - giants are playing great...the earthquake comes and a week later the mojo is completely gone.

1997 - we lose the first two games in the bottom of the 9th, I fly to SF to see devon fucking white hit a grand slam in game 3. white has two hits in the whole series...this is one of them...and this all starts after 2 quick outs and then two strike counts on the next four batters, including white.

2000 - after taking the first game, the giants get a miracle 3 run homer in the bottom of the 9th to tie game 2......and promptly lose in the 10th. I was there. benny fucking agbayani homers in the 13th to give the mets game 3 and some bum named bobby jones (he of the 5+ ERA) holds the giants to one fucking hit in the clinching game. Giants; gone in the first round.

2002 - I come home from SF after a 16-4 giants win and we're up 3 games to 2. 5-0 lead in game 6; 8 outs away...you know the rest. my mother in law was watching the game with us...she says the rally monkey is "cute"...I literally want to strangle her! I didn't even watch game 7.

2003 - series with the marlins is tied at a game apiece. giants take the lead in the top of the 14th and worrell comes in for the save. jose fucking cruz drops the easiest lazy pop up ever to open the bottom of the 14th; worrell falls apart and the giants lose. in game four, the slowest guy on our squad (JT Snow) is thrown out at home, trying to score from second and we're done. marlins go on to win their SECOND world series and we're at 45 years and counting.

and then, this year  . all the crap that always happens to US, happens to the other guys. the 2000 team with bonds, kent, etc. can't score off bobby fucking jones and this 2010 bunch is beating lowe, halladay, oswalt, hamels and lee :wtf:  . the clark, mitchell, williams teams couldn't do it, but this bunch CAN  . un-fucking believable!!!!!!!

and they deserve it!!! I can die happy

a few more near miss heartbreaks that made this so sweet...

1993 - 103 win season, 10 game lead at the all-star break, 10 games over .500 in the second half and we miss the fucking playoffs by one win  . why? the stinking padres trade McGriff IN THE DIVISION to the braves and they go like 52-19 down the stretch. also, the rockies treat the braves to a 0-13 season record.

1998 - needing only a win on the final day, the giants blow a 7-0 versus the rockies. a) how the fuck does that happen? b) aren't the rockies supposed to roll over and start thinking about golf? :wtf:

2001 - game #161...giants v. dodgers....giants need to win...pac bell is absolutely rocking. sean estes comes out and gives up 5 in the top of the 1st  . estes - great arm; bad head.

Most hateable teams in the NL West:
    1) dodgers - duh. tommy lasorda makes me want to puke.
    2) d-bags - nice how MLB bailed your bankrupt asses out and helped you pay for johnson and schilling and your purchased WS victory. hey Bud, can we get a loan to go after carl crawford?
    3) padres - besides sending McGriff to the braves, they also decided to play derek bell at 3rd that same year in a series vs. atlanta. bell hasn't played there since HS. he's pretty bad, too....something like 5 errors in 3 games and the braves sweep. there was something highly conspiratorial about those two teams that year. :shh:
    4) rockies - they're OK except for the aforementioned 1998 game and the 1993 laydown against the braves.

    but it's all good now  ! I think.....I hope :?

i'm sure you remember....the Gmen lost 8 in a row, late in the year and trailed atlanta by 4 games. after loss #7, I burned a jersey in my backyard  ....then the Gmen righted the ship and won like 11 of 12. it's all good until the final day in LA  . I can still see that fat fuck lasorda chortling

  • It's funny to see you guys talking about these past seasons, I remember virtually every detail of those seasons. Here's some things that come to mind for those disappointments...

1993 - Swift should have probably thrown on 3 days rest for the last game in LA. Torres just wasn't ready for a game that big. I don't think his career every recovered, he was supposed to be a GREAT pitching prospect.

1997 - MLB gives us the shaft vs Florida, despite having so called home field advantage we have to open at Florida, we get game 3,4, & 5 at home but it only goes 3. I was in the bleachers when Devon White's grand slam pretty much ended our season.

1998 - Neffi Perez hits a game winning HR to beat us in Colorado. The guy had ZERO power, then Sabean signs him to a fat contract a few seasons later. I'll never forget Rod Beck throwing 83mph fastballs against us in the 9th inning of that 1 game playoff. Joe Carter just missed crushing a HR and sending us to the NLDS. We were 5 games back with 10 to go that season so making it to a 1 game playoff was a miracle in itself.

2000 - Game 2 vs the Mets at home, Snow hits the HR and we still can't win the damn game, Edgardo Alfatso beats us and our offense never showed up at Shea. Dusty should have pinch hit for Gardner in game 4 when we got the bases loaded.

2001 - Friday night, it was actually game 160, Estes puts us in a huge hole and we can't pull it out, Bonds hits HR's 71 & 72 that night.

2002 - We all know every detail of this one, no need to discuss. I was at game 5 when they won 16-4, we all thought they had another win in them.

2003 - Best record in baseball, but Game 2 at home is a disaster with Cruz dropping the fly ball. JT Snow gets thrown out by 30 feet to end the series. Pudge was a monster in that series.

2004 - Finley ends our season with a Grand Slam on game 161. We have Schmidt ready to pitch the next day for the division and he was on a serious roll. Shame it never went that far, our bullpen was awful that season, having Joe Nathan as our closer would have sent us to the playoffs easily. But he was traded along with a future ace for AJ who was terrible.

2009 - "This is not good folks", the quote from Kuiper when we lost that crushing game at Coors Field in late August, we fight back to tie for the wild card but run out of gas shortly after.

Nice work Sabean...great to see you back to your old tricks

    from keith law...

The San Francisco Giants, meanwhile, made the worst mistake a GM can make after winning the World Series -- they're overpaying one of the guys who got them there, just because he got them there. After pulling a left-for-dead Huff off the scrap pile last offseason and getting far more than they paid for from him in 2010, the Giants re-upped Huff for two years and a vesting option at more than twice the annual salary they gave him on the just-expired one-year deal. I've outlined many times why I think Huff's 2010 season was a fluke, from the fact that he's 33 to his regression in the final two months (plus October) to his history of bad defense at several positions, and paying him more than he's likely to be worth just ten months after nobody wanted the guy makes little sense. It's worse when you consider that San Francisco's best prospect, Brandon Belt, is a first baseman who finished the year in AAA and was the best everyday player in the Arizona Fall League. There's every indication that he'll be ready for a major league role by midyear. The Giants have to put one of these two in left field, unless they intend to use Belt as trade bait for something else, but the ideal move was to let Huff walk if he wanted more than a year, given his age and the big performance risk in giving him a multi-year deal.
  • Keith Law is an clown like most of the so called experts at ESPN. If he was so smart he'd have a job with a MLB team. Huff just helped this team win it's 1st title in 56 years. Yes they slightly overpaid for him but you don't let a guy who's that important to your clubhouse walk after the season he just had. It would send a horrible message to guys on the team and other players around the league. This shows that they're a loyal organization and that will help for years to come. If Belt is ready Huff simply moves to LF. He played damn well there this season. I guess Law missed that though while he spent most of his time following the Yankees and Sox. I think I remember Law claiming that the Giants should have gone all out for that loser Adam LaRoche last winter. Then claimed that LaRoche made a smart decision in declining the Giants offer because the ballpark would hurt his numbers. Now LaRoche is without a job again because of his attitude and mediocre play. If Law was a GM he'd be a disaster. You can't run a team with a calculator, it's a lot more complicated than that. I've ripped Sabean in the past but he brought home the crown so everybody needs to just shut up now.

I could care less about the giants.

though I agree that most espn personalities are clowns, keith law does not fit into that category. he's one of the best baseball analysts that there are. He could have a job in a front office if he wanted one.

Good luck with Huff...especially in LF. Sabean loves overpaying stiffs
  • I am still in shock over all of this. This is my first opportunity since the Series to post anything on here. I actually had to watch the World Series on tivo about 2 weeks ago which sucked, but I am glad to see they finally pulled it out! :D:D:D

imalive -- I remember all of those moments. I remember sobbing like a little girl in 2002 when they lost game 6 and remember going to game 4 of Battle of the Bay, boy that was rough.

It finally all came together this year with a run that will not soon be forgotten. Posey handled this staff as well as any catcher could do it. Lincecum, Cain, Wilson, Sanchez, and Bumgarner pitched lights out when it mattered most!!

Im so happy I can finally say...

2010 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS!! :D:D:D

  • Booooo-ribe! That's the chant you'll hear next year. I don't think we'll miss him that much. If Pablo can get his act together and we find a decent SS we'll be fine. No way I'd give Uribe 3 years. The $7 million a year is probably pretty close to what he's worth. But not for 3 years, at the end of the day he's a good UTILTY player, not everyday player. He's got HUGE holes in his swing that start to show if he plays more than two or three days a week.

Definitely another Schmidt! I wonder if the Giants are serious about going after Jeter as reported today.
  • I won't lie, it hurt when I heard about Uribe today. He was the Giants best option for an everyday SS next year. Not to mention from a moral stand point. (The Dodgers?! Are you fucking kidding me?!) I didn't know how to react. It's like being cheated on in a marriage. You feel anger thinking of him wearing that ridiculous blue and white uniform, but at the same time it was only a month ago that he had two of the biggest hits in Giants history.

I guess what it ultimately boils down to is, you win some and you lose some. There's no way the Giants were going to give him a three year deal at $7M per. 2 years, $7M maybe. But not 3. To be honest, I'm glad Sabean didn't revert back to his old form and really go for broke to better the Dodgers offer. (i.e. Renteria, Rowand, Zito) Uribe will be sorely missed. It was so fun watching that guy swing the bat. Sure, when he whiffed, he whiffed bad, but he made up for it by hitting when it counted. I'll never forget him hitting that bomb at Chavez Ravine this year that put the Giants ahead and completed a miraculous comeback that, in hindsight, puts the Giants in the playoffs.

There's no way Jeter is coming to San Francisco. His agent is merely trying to make it seem that there is interest out there from another team to try and boost the Yankees offer. One of the oldest tricks in the agent handbook. The rest of the free agent SS class is "not very sexy" to quote Sabean. This puts huge pressure on Pablo to drop the weight and revert back to his 2009 form. If he doesn't, the Giants are suddenly a team with a lot of unproven ability on the left side of the infield. I haven't seen anything from Burress to make me believe he can be an everyday player at the big league level.

I heard someone say today that the honeymoon is officially over. I have to agree. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to enjoy the Giants being world champs until first pitch next year. But, I've officially begun to "worry" about 2011. Game on, and Go Giants.

the fact that the trainwreck that is the dodgers signed Booo-ribe (I like that  ) makes me think he'll be another schmidt or andruw jones. could be, we unloaded him just in time. still, we do now need a SS :?

  • Well we got our shortstop. I actually like the Tejada move, the guy is extremely durable and can still hit. We need a few guys who can play 150 plus games. I think he can give us .275 15 HR's and 75 RBI's. His defense isn't great but he can't be any worse than what we got from Renteria the past two seasons. It's only a one year deal so if Crawford is ready in 2012 he's got a clear path. This also gives Burris a full year in Fresno where he can get his act together and compete with Crawford for the starting job in 2012. Either way this deal is WAY better than handing Uribe three years.

  • Glad they only gave Tejada one year. If he can bring to the Giants what he did in San Diego last year, it could work out.

Agreed 100%!! He actually made a few phenominal defensive plays against the Giants last season that left me thinking that the guy still had it! We will see!

I could care less about the giants.

though I agree that most espn personalities are clowns, keith law does not fit into that category. he's one of the best baseball analysts that there are. He could have a job in a front office if he wanted one.

Good luck with Huff...especially in LF. Sabean loves overpaying stiffs

    a) I'm messing with you.

    b) ryan howard - 5 yr/$125 M extension :shifty:

that hurts...the howard contract is the worst in all of sports. I puke a little in my mouth every time it gets brought up.

I did laugh when I saw the tejada signing...not as much as the huff signing, but still funny.

Tejeda???? Now I'm getting my Giants news in the message pit! :wtf:

I don't even know the particulars, but one year couldn't be too bad. I guess the steroid cloud is back over our team. :shh:
