Upset that Pearl Jam lost because we don't that they'll get nominated again. Even if they put out the greatest album of all time. Their track record is low. The Beatles can find a lost demo in the attic and get nominated. I just hope Beyoncé doesn't put out a rock album when Pearl Jam releases theirs
There’s no reason to be upset about this. I guarantee the band isn’t

We can’t really determine how much effort and resources were actually put into promoting and politicking Dark Matter to the Grammy Voting Committee.  As an outsider though, the voters just seem lazy and go with same old Stones and Beatles.  I think it’s safe to say that Pearl Jam is one of the few bands that actually put out a phenomenal “rock” album that was universally loved by most of the “rock” audience.
I don't know about this. The award for Best Rap Album went to Doechii over Eminem, J. Cole and Future. That's not a sign of voters being lazy. Neither were major nominations for Khruangbin, Raye, Jacob Collier (and Doechii).

With respect to your last point, I agree that it's a phenomenal album, but universally loved by most of the rock audience is a bit of a stretch. It didn't rank among the top 50 most-consumed rock albums of the year. The reality is that most of the rock audience never listened to it, because most of the rock audience is older and is not interested in hearing anything new. The singles did get a lot of airplay on rock radio, but that is a small pond these days.
I agree with your assessment regarding the Rap category but they’ve stopped trying and put very little thought into the Rock category for many years now.  Sad how overlooked Rock music has become.  Also, even though there hasn’t been a huge audience exposed to Dark Matter, it has made a very meaningful impact on the ones that have given it a chance.

    Van who? 😭
When I was in Seattle for the shows last May, the girl working the front desk at the gym I went to downtown had never heard of Pearl Jam. In Seattle. She was in her mid-20s, I'd guess. Similarly, my Airbnb host, a 30-year-old woman, seemed only vaguely familiar. Again, this was in Seattle.

chappel roan is why trump won? what?
Backlash against queer visibility is an animating force in the coalition that elected Trump. Polling shows that a meaningful portion of the voting public-- not just MAGA people-- thinks that Democrats have gone too far in emphasizing identity politics, including LGBT+ rights. I'm not endorsing any of this; they're just political facts on the ground. My comment about "why Trump won" was partly tongue-in-cheek, but it was my honest reaction at the time. My primary reaction was, as I noted in the second point, that I was inspired by her performance and her story. It was something that I was already aware of, but the performance and the focus on the lyrics that it created for me as I watched really moved me and I ended up choked up by it.

Granted, Trump won by such a small margin that there are many things one could point to as reasons why he won since any issue might have been enough to move enough voters into his camp (or to a third party or to refrain from voting altogether) to have made the difference.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

As much as I am (obviously) a Pearl Jam fan, those Idles and Fontaines DC albums slapped hard. I don't think there is a repeated lyric in Fontaines DC's Starburster. As Idles would say, "It goes and it goes and it goes."

I think the kids say slapped.

Led Fuc$in Zeppelin only won 1 Grammy other than a Lifetime Achievement award.  That’s all you need to know.

as has been mentioned, grammy wins are like any other award show: the artist/producer/label/whoever has to go on a strong campaign to get the votes, and that often decides who wins. that's why they're all such a farce. it's not the best movie/song/album/tv show. It's who has the best marketing campaign.

and really, the Beatles are the most iconic band in the world, but that new song isn't even that much to write home about. it's cool to have  "new" track from them, but it's not even close to their best work.

You’re obviously right, the Grammy’s are very important to them. Jeff has been lying for 30 years and the back of Stone’s basement is a place of prestige

And they overlooked most of Bob Dylan’s best work. The awards have a long history of not voting for the best work .

Is it bad that I really really liked the new Stones album?  It was my favourite since Steel Wheels.  I play it often.  I could see how it could beat Dark Matter.  I'm not even sure which of the two I like better, they're both damn good.

Why would that be bad? Like what you like. It sounds like the Stones, there’s no reason for someone who likes them not to enjoy it

Not bad at all. As we all know music is subjective. There are fellow PJ fans that don't like Dark Matter and I cannot wrap my head around that as I love DM. I don't typically watch the Grammy's but will be checking out the new Stones and Idles releases because of the Grammy's. People shouldn't compare new music without ever really listening to the new music. Stay tuned!

Ashamed to admit this is the first time I listened to a song from her start to finish.  Not really my kind of music, or so I thought.  I thought it was moving and fantastic.  Her message is awesome and probably something a lot of people need that are in a place where they feel alone.  Now I get why the crowd at Lollla was so big.  I guess me not listening to her until now could be because I'm getting old too.  Either way, this made the show for me.....brilliant.
My older son despises her songs. I actually really like them. They have this weird edge to them. Pink Pony Club is the newest radio single and it's got this mix of 80's and present day sound rolled in to one.
    It's a hopeless situation...

This performance was really great. I had three thoughts: 1) she is so talented; 2) I am genuinely moved by the semiautobiographical nature of the song and her journey as a small-town queer person who had to leave home to find acceptance; and 3) this is why Trump won.

As usual, there were a number of really fun performances. Sabrina Carpenter is just a delight. I was impressed by Doechii, who is very much not in my lane. Billie Eilish was typically great. And I was prepared to hate Charli XCX-- the whole Brat thing is so overdone-- but she was pretty fantastic. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are great performers and I enjoyed them, but I would have rather heard them do their Grammy-winning collaboration "Die with a Smile," a great song that also happens to be the current number one on the Hot 100.
I'm just glad we've gotten past Taylor Swift dominance on radio and at awards shows...for now. Sabrina is starting to get a tad annoying to hear all over, but I really like a couple of her singles and hate a few others. I initially didn't like the Bruno/Gaga collab but that song has grown on me. As usual, Bruno disappears for a while and then all of a sudden he's all over on different songs.
    It's a hopeless situation...
