Pearl Jam lose to The Beatles for Rock Performance
The Beatles winning a Grammy in 2025 is pretty ridiculous. Just goes to show you people get stupid when that band is brought up. Not to mention should be in the pop category not rock..
It would be ridiculous if they won it in 2025 for a song that was released in 1966. This song was released last year. People like it. People are not stupid for liking the Beatles. The Beatles are, objectively speaking, the greatest band in the history of rock. All of the musicians they beat, including the members of Pearl Jam, revere them and love their music.
There is some truth to this, but not because Pearl Jam didn't win.
On a separate note, some of the nominating process is a function of what a label pushes for, and some of it is just laziness by the nominating committee, but "Dark Matter" was not the best song to put forward for consideration. "Wreckage" would have had a broader appeal to more members of the Recording Academy (and it was more widely played). And all of this is stated with the caveat that a lot of voters are not putting a lot of thought into their votes, especially in the genre categories, although this is somewhat mitigated by the byzantine voting process which tries to ensure that people are not voting in categories that they're not familiar with or for artists who are not their peers.
We can’t really determine how much effort and resources were actually put into promoting and politicking Dark Matter to the Grammy Voting Committee. As an outsider though, the voters just seem lazy and go with same old Stones and Beatles. I think it’s safe to say that Pearl Jam is one of the few bands that actually put out a phenomenal “rock” album that was universally loved by most of the “rock” audience.

If the song they released last year was by a band not named the Beatles it would never see the light of day let get a Grammy nomination and win. Thats my point that people get out of whack when it’s the Beatles. They are the most important band in the history of rock without question, but not everything they’ve ever put out is great or should be celebrated. But if they found tapes of those four yodeling people would say it’s great
Well Annie used one of Mike's guitars on one of her songs on the album. So by osmosis. (I don't think that's the right word but you know what I mean)Pearl Jam have a little part of that win
Personally I liked the Bruno Mars/Lady Gaga version of California Dreaming the best of anything I’ve seen tonight. Other than that I’m feeling really old!

Tuned in for about five minutes and actually saw Khruangbin playing! Then found out they were nominated for best new artist? They've been around for quite some time....uh
My favorite is, "Who is that? / Never heard of them..." like it's a dig against the artist(s) because those people don't keep up with music past a certain point in time. 😄

It might be even cooler to lose to the Beatles and Stones than to win. Pretty epic.
Stones' album is a joke (sorry that's how I feel - yeah I listened to it).
Beatles song is, what, by AI?
I just can't imagine what idiots they have voting on this.

I don't know about this. The award for Best Rap Album went to Doechii over Eminem, J. Cole and Future. That's not a sign of voters being lazy. Neither were major nominations for Khruangbin, Raye, Jacob Collier (and Doechii).
With respect to your last point, I agree that it's a phenomenal album, but universally loved by most of the rock audience is a bit of a stretch. It didn't rank among the top 50 most-consumed rock albums of the year. The reality is that most of the rock audience never listened to it, because most of the rock audience is older and is not interested in hearing anything new. The singles did get a lot of airplay on rock radio, but that is a small pond these days.
Tuned in for about five minutes and actually saw Khruangbin playing! Then found out they were nominated for best new artist? They've been around for quite some time....uh
And this was Sabrina Carpenter's sixth album. The eligibility rules for Best New Artist are forgiving. There have been a few "veteran" artists up for that prize over the years.

When Arcade Fire won Album of the Year for The Suburbs, Rosie O'Donnell had this exact reaction very publicly, and I remember thinking, "Rosie, you think you're slagging on Arcade Fire, but you're just dunking on yourself by demonstrating that you're out of touch with contemporary music."
This performance was really great. I had three thoughts: 1) she is so talented; 2) I am genuinely moved by the semiautobiographical nature of the song and her journey as a small-town queer person who had to leave home to find acceptance; and 3) this is why Trump won.
As usual, there were a number of really fun performances. Sabrina Carpenter is just a delight. I was impressed by Doechii, who is very much not in my lane. Billie Eilish was typically great. And I was prepared to hate Charli XCX-- the whole Brat thing is so overdone-- but she was pretty fantastic. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are great performers and I enjoyed them, but I would have rather heard them do their Grammy-winning collaboration "Die with a Smile," a great song that also happens to be the current number one on the Hot 100.
Ashamed to admit this is the first time I listened to a song from her start to finish. Not really my kind of music, or so I thought. I thought it was moving and fantastic. Her message is awesome and probably something a lot of people need that are in a place where they feel alone. Now I get why the crowd at Lollla was so big. I guess me not listening to her until now could be because I'm getting old too. Either way, this made the show for me.....brilliant.
I am lost, I'm no guide, but I'm by your side

Upset that Pearl Jam lost because we don't that they'll get nominated again. Even if they put out the greatest album of all time. Their track record is low. The Beatles can find a lost demo in the attic and get nominated. I just hope Beyoncé doesn't put out a rock album when Pearl Jam releases theirs
