All these people that are so gung-ho about health care reform, have you ever really sat back and imagined paying a 40% tax for socialized health care? How do you all suppose insuring everyone in the country isn't going to cost us money? What do other countries pay? 30 or 40 % right? Let's see, if make 20$ an hour at 40 hors you make 800$, minus 40% leaves you with 480$, minus state tax, minus social security, and medicare, what are you left with? Probably three hundred and something dollars.....FUCK THAT! I'm not selling my house so the guy down the street can have health ins.....sorry. The day I pay 40% tax on a 40 hour work week is the day i'll be standing in line collecting well-fare like everybody else. If i'm paying that much tax they can take over my home owners insurance and auto insurance also. You all must make a whole lotta fucking money if you don't mind paying that much tax.

Who is asking you to pay 40% more of your pay?

Even if we did go to single payer system (which will never happen), income taxes in Canada & UK are marginally higher than the US (maybe 10%)... so you'd have to pay 10% more.

but... you wouldn't pay your monthy contribution to your premium, and neither would your company. Last I checked in my company, our insurance at my job cost the combined employee & company a little over $1000/month. So if your taxes went up 10% and you earned an extra $1000 a month, wouldn't that be in your favor?

you would not have your health insurance premiums taken out of your check every pay period, so that might benefit you somewhat and save you several hundred a month...if we were going to single payor and i am fairly certain that you would only be paying medicare tax, because it would essentially be medicare for all. social security tax amounts to hardly anything on my check, i don't even miss that $12 per pay period. the bottom line is taxes are how the government makes its money. if you do not want it to have money to provide services like good roads, snow removal, disaster response, trash pick-up, your state national guard, police and fire department, EMS crews, your military and defense mechanisms, sewer and ground water maintenance so you don't flood every time it rains, etc, etc, then be my guest. i wonder how long you would make it living off the land cut off from society in some wilderness cabin like the unabomber...if i was a government official i would tell you ok, you don't want to pay taxes, then don't bother me or my government employees when you need something..take care of it yourself.

I don’t thank people have any problem with paying taxes. The problem is government is not held accountable for the tax money that is wasted, unaccounted for, or doled out to special interest to pay back favors to line politicians pocket. So it really comes down to if government was held accountable they would not need all the money they collect from us for taxes....because there are billions of dollars of tax payer money wasted.

    wasted is right.

rather sickening that we seem to have plenty of money for war, but not enough for basic Heath Care.

we are a one party system now. there is no opposition.

Hence the word probably, but from the stance I have seen from the right (RNC/FNC), yes ,I would venture to guess that the majority is racist. No accusations to anyone on this board.

Good thing the first Republican ever elected president freed the slaves. The Democrats only had 9 elected presidents to do it before Lincoln.

Your pont (as racist as it is) has no relevance to the conversation. The words "slave" or "slavery" do not exist in the Constitution. The constitution was put in place to limit central power, and keep the power with the states and the people. Basically to stop someone like Obama.

Where did I ever say that? People are giving him crap because he doesn't want to lose his plan. They are labeling him as selfish.

Laziness was never brought up until now. Who is making the generalities?
where in ANY of the house or senate bills does it say "you are going to lose your coverage with this new plan"???

obama has said on the record several times that "if you like your plan you do not have to change a thing".

Obama says alot of things. Like transparancy in his administration, no pork barrel politics, and plenty of time for the public to review legislation before passing. Seriously, don't ever trust a politician, do your own research. Regardless of political party, what has the government ever done to make you think that they will be successful at running healthcare?

So, you have to ask yourself if you even beleive what Obama says about Health care, given his track record of lying. Ok, so say you do believe him. Well in this case he actually is not lying. The bills don't explicitly state you will lose your coverage with this new plan. Doing so would be stupid. It's just understanding the reality of what would happen if there was a "low cost" government option. It would only be low cost because it would be subsidized by the tax payers, not because of competition. The low cost option would not allow the your current insurance provider to compete. When they go out of business, you would have to switch to the government plan. The quality of care would also decrease.
