I don't believe that for one split second. Why would you think otherwise? If this horrible legislation would have gone through (but thank God it's not going to now) that's exactly what would have happened. Folks like me with awesome employer-funded Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance would either be taxed at 40% or our employer would take that insurance away and go with a less expensive plan that wouldn't provide near the benefits that our current plan does. The unions were going to get a pass on this 40% tax, but the rest of us were going to get absolutely hammered. This would have been a very punitive measure on the middle class in this country.

Are you under a single plan or a family plan? I just can't see that many people with family plans getting over the $23,000 threshold for the 40% tax to kick in... that's a premium of almost $2,000 a month. We have pretty darn good insurance, and it's about half that.

Even a single plan of $8.500 is kinda high, and the tax would only be on the difference over $8,500, not the entire amount.

If a family plan costs over $23,000 a year, than I think the bigger issue is why the hell does it cost so much for health insurance in the first place!

Why do I feel proud? It means that I get to keep the same exact insurance plan that I currently have. I'm very blessed in that I don't pay a dime toward any premiums - my employer pays 100% of my premiums. The only thing I pay are very low co-pays. Even my co-workers who have family coverage don't pay any premiums. Needless to say, I work for a very generous organization.

I realize that there are people who don't have access to the insurance that I'm fortunate to have, but this most recent proposal by the liberals and the president is not what this country needed; it would have done much more harm than good.

keep putting your trust in the insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies who have been ripping off people for years. It's almost laughable if it wasn't so damn ludicrous. It's people like you who are so hell bent on shouting down the public option, that seem to have no clue, that all you are doing is lobbying to keep pouring money into the pockets of insurance companies who are the ones rationing healthcare today.

and if you don't trust the government to look after your health, i trust you won't be a hypocrite and call government paid/run emergency service personnel, and their equipment. we'd hate you to not trust us with your health, so don't bother. you can't pick and choose just because it suits YOU. i am so tired of selfish people who only think about themselves.

i love how people are only concerned about themselves. fuck the less fortunate, right? :roll: i am sure this person would be the first one to call you when they are having chest pain. i am waiting for the day when the insurance companies fuck things up so badly that they decide not to cover emergency services so if an uninsured or underinsured person get a bill for $10 grand for the valliant effort of the emts restarting their heart and transportiung them to the hospital for more advanced medical care and they have no way of repaying it, they will have wished they would have been left to die. fuck these insuracnce companies and their bottom line and their profit over people stance!

The majority of the country feels the same way I do, so I'm certainly in good company. I happen to be a fiscally conservative independent and I don't want to see the middle-class in this country continue to have to carry the load for those who refuse to contribute in a meaningful way to society. And yes, my insurance plan would have been subject to this 40% tax.

I'm definitely not selfish. A large percentage of my annual income goes to charitable donations. I guarantee you that I've donated more to Haiti relief than the average outspoken liberal on this Pearl Jam message board. I also work for a national non-profit civil rights organization (one that I'm sure most of you have heard of) and as a result, I'm involved in helping people who need it most every day of my life.

I think this is a good thing from the standpoint that the Health Care Reform as it currently stands is less likely to make it through.

Hopefully, now that 1 party can't just cram through their pork-filled bs, we can get a good piece of legislation. I'm not holding my breathe though.

where in ANY of the house or senate bills does it say "you are going to lose your coverage with this new plan"???

obama has said on the record several times that "if you like your plan you do not have to change a thing".
