Ok, let me clarify. Sorry for the late response for this but I was traveling to the west coast all day yesterday. For people that don't live in Massachusetts it's tough to understand. What we won yesterday was, whether real or perceived, was the ability to have both sides of the aisle heard. I myself, as well as a lot of family and friends, have become very disenfranchised with the Democratic status quo in this state. People have had enough. If Teddy were still alive, he'd run for reelection in 2 years and get 85 percent. This election has restored my faith in the power of voting. Many of us in Massachusetts feel that our vote doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things because it's an automatic blue state. Whether voting red or blue, our vote never really seemed to matter. This time, it did. As I said before, I have voted for both Dems and Republicans, but without both sides' voices being heard, it become an extremelty stagnant political landscape. That's what we won.
So you feel you "won" because you voted in the other party? Which is essentially the same as the old party? The two party system is basically one big party that does not work for the people.

The fact that one of the most liberal states in america voted for Brown says ALOT!! Even Obama and his collegues are taking notice to this....why is it so hard for some of you to see this? Chances are, if Ma. feels this way....so doesn't alot of other blue states.
    Thank you.

You're not understanding what I'm trying to say. This won't physically make one difference in the grand scheme of things, because the two party system is one grand party; they think alike, they act alike, they enjoy finger pointing while taking no accountability. And they don't WORK for the PEOPLE of this country. We'll see if Brown makes any difference to the state of MA.

It's not that simple. People here had a lot of different reasons to vote for Brown, with Coakley's pathetic campaign and the corrupt leadership of Mass Dems being the major reasons, I think. Also, we already have a universal-ish health care plan similar to Obama's, and it was signed into law by Mitt Romney.

Only an ignoramus would call the current health care bill "Obama care".
Brillant argument full of insightfull facts!
How has Obama "dis-respected" the Constitution? Isn't he pushing a plan that he promised to push when he was elected?
A better question is "how does he respect it"? No where in the constitution does it state that heathcare is a universal right. No where in the constitution does it say that the productive class needs to support the welfare class.
How exactly is the reform bill "socialized medicine & government run"? Specifics, please.

I think that this bill is a waste of money, and in it's water-down lobbyist written from will not do that much to improve our healthcare, but all calling it socialist and government run does is prove that you have no idea what's in it, but instead listen to political blowhards and old talking points.
How can I simply and clearly explain that the government option will be government run? How it will be subsidized by taxes and put the insurance companies out of business becuase they can't compete. Eventually everyone will be on the "government option". Doctors will be paid peanuts, so our best and brightest will go in to other fields. Eventually our quality of care will be drug down to the rest of the world. The only ones who win by creating a European style welfare state are the liberals that stay in power as the provider of the "free stuff."

All government social programs are complete failures. I will never see a Dime of Social Security. Who on earth thinks it's a good idea to invest your money for someone else now, and get it back later? Or I could just save my own money.
What is wrong with that? if the guy has a LCD TV, a playstation and other crap, then I'd agree, but a phone? Say he's out of work and trying to find a job... what does he write on the application for contact info? Leave me a letter taped to the third lamp post on maple ave?
Regardless of what you may think, A cell phone is a luxary, not a NEED. A family of 4 can have a home phone for $15 a month, instead of 4 cell phones. You could have NO phone, and leave a friend or relative's number. No employer can discriminate because you don't have a phone.

  • Why is it silly to want to keep the ins. I got. You need to look at the whole picture please. The report that republicans don't care is getting really obnoxious. I would love to see everyone in america get health care while people like myself could keeep there current plan but that is not Obamas agenda.

Another common misconception. You're not going to lose your current insurance.

I'm up with the 2nd. The city of Chicago is going to learn that later this year when the Supreme Court tells them their handgun ban is unconstitutional. But that topic is a whole new thread.

I hope they do. That is what happens when you have a 6 term mayor whose father was the longest serving mayor in Chicago's history. Too much power. How the people of Chicago keep voting him in is beyond me. Then again I live in MA so I don't know too much more about his policies and how he runs the city.

Yeah Daley needs to go. But that is another another whole new thread.

It's pretty messed up the city spent millions trying to get the olympics but had to lay off some of their sanitation workers.

Back to the gun thread, dozens of schoolkids were shot last year by those banned handguns. I just don't see how it is possible.

are you advocating arming schoolkids and teachers to protect themselves? maybe you should start another thread to discuss that issue specifically?

I don't believe that for one split second. Why would you think otherwise? If this horrible legislation would have gone through (but thank God it's not going to now) that's exactly what would have happened. Folks like me with awesome employer-funded Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance would either be taxed at 40% or our employer would take that insurance away and go with a less expensive plan that wouldn't provide near the benefits that our current plan does. The unions were going to get a pass on this 40% tax, but the rest of us were going to get absolutely hammered. This would have been a very punitive measure on the middle class in this country.
