anyone see the documentary about the 86 mets? what channel did that air on?

if you're talking about the one that aired on MSG network, that was unwatchable. i saw the first episode in March and my three problems were this:

1 - commercials every five minutes
2 - no interviews with anyone involved players/broadcasters/writers
    3 - no footage

It was like sitting and listening to celeb Met fans do a reading of the "Bad Guys Won", which on the other hand is a tremendous book.

haha. I think that was the one. guess I won't be trying to find it.

a balk off....the mets are funny

Apparently everyone on the field knew it was a balk. I'll never understand that rule.

Not as good as the unassisted triple play, but pretty good.

I was at a Yanks v Phils game at the Vet that we lost on a balk in the 13th inning - I was so pissed. I guess bad teams do stupid shit like that. That was Top 13th - I don't remember any balk offs before this one.

can you really blame reyes's agent at this point with all the trade talk. like what did sandy expect the agent to say, yes? sandy shoulda reached out to the agent before grandpa coupon ran his mouth.

if they follow the moneyball way, yes he's a goner. in my heart of hearts i actually want him back but i can't see it happening. you only get one chance to break the bank and i can't blame reyes for wanting to do so.

Read that Ted Berg article I posted, that will make you want him back. Shit, I want him to stay because of that. It's a great and emotional read.

Gary Cohen brought up this good point on 1050 today. For all the talk about the Met finances with things such as Rodriguez's option, isn't it common sense to think that if the Mets continue to play this way over the summer, wouldn't they generate enough money from people showing up at the ballpark that would help them pay his option should he wind up with 55 games finished.

I say they should take the chance that trading Beltran & Frank Rod will clear payroll. Also, NOT trading Reyes would keep a fan favorite in the ballpark for 2 more months and may keep the gate receipts trending upward.

Those combined actions may be enough to save money/make money and allow them to make a run at re-signing Reyes in the off-season.

Reyes is playing hard for a fat contract, that Wilpon has stated he'll never pay.
Wright, Ike, Gee and Reyes should all be taken care of - Einhorn needs to handle that asap. You ain't fillin seats in that ballpark any other way. And a stud arm would help. I can't wait (personally) until Beltran is gonzo. I still am bitter at him starin at the meatball :)

Do you really want D Wright taken care of long term? I sure don't.

The guy is living off his numbers from 3 years ago and has struggled greatly in the new ballpark.

He needs to move on to greener pastures. It will be best for both him & the club.

Yeah, call me crazy - I'm a huge Wright fan. And like Reyes, when healthy puts up #'s. Wright hasn't been healthy.

Visions of healthy Ike, Reyes and Wright dance in my head.

I suppose it's possible, but 300 K's the past two years makes me cringe every time I see his #s.

Hope he rebounds, but I fear he's on the downside of his Mets peak.

...and metsfan, how about Beltran watching a called 3rd strike from Rivera in the 9th yesterday?

Shades of '06, baby (although they did scrape it together and win in extras).

i have mixed feelings bout wright. i guess i just never understood the hype he got. to me it always seemed like the mets were looking for wright to be "that guy" to carry the team kinda like piazza did. i def think the home run derby a few years back and the bean ball to his head has fucked with his swing. you can tell he stands away from the plate alot more these days.

The Mets are beginning to take calls on Beltran and...

Are possibly holding "secret" negotiations with Reyes. I wouldn't be suprised to see them lock him up.

They be idiots for not extending Reyes. Perfect player for that part of that city and for that ballpark. And he gives us something about the Mets to hate. ;)

Agreed, it's going to be a lot of money for a guy that has had trouble staying on the field though. I think they'll do it though

I'd be shopping him around to everyone. What's the point of trying to sign him before the trade deadline?

    Gotta love the mets
