I mean, I am the first person in the entire world to call Philly fans scumbags, but why are people being so dramatic about popcorn?

    Take a guess
But it's Philly people being dramatic about it
    , and fucking Santa Claus.
That's what you guys did to poor Santa? And here I always thought it was snowballs.
Hopefully you at least gave him the courtesy of a Philly reach around. (the true "Philly Special")
    This weekend we rock Portland

Cliffy they had a huge segment on it on Sportscenter this morning - at least they didn't talk about Santa Claus for once. It isn't us making a big deal out of it - although I think it was a disgusting abhorrent thing to do.

FFS we can't even enjoy resounding playoff victories because of one a**hole.
I haven't seen a second of national TV or sports. I am just talking about all the stuff I saw on Philly twitter last night and today.

It's weird Philly Twitter showed me nothing but some dipshit DC reporter rubbing his crotch because Embiid was gyrating in the above gif.

If I'm Russ I think I'd initially flip out because how the hell do you know it's only popcorn? I think I'd murder someone in a Current-Covid World.

Yeah I have no issue with Russell's reaction - that was f'ed up. DC announcers can go pound sand, however.

Hahaha.....yeah I heard no mention of the spitting incident until about an hour ago. Plenty of footage of dopey Knicks fans acting as if they won the championship after winning one stupid playoff game though.

I still see absolutely nothing about yet another fight in the stands at the Astros game

That sequence where he missed the dunk and then encouraged the booing, then slammed it home two plays later and held his hands to his ears? That’s NBA Playoff gold right there. We are lucky.

For his 5/20 FT shooting throughout the course of the series? Absolutely. Inexcusable.

For his 4/8 FT shooting during the “hack-a-Ben” sequence? The Sixers shot 41.7% from the field last night, so that 1 point per possession was more efficient than they were as a team for the night. His career average would have been to make 1 more of those 8, hardly a difference maker. On the Wizards possessions following his 1/2 FT trips Beal made a tough step back, Gafford had a put back dunk, and Rui hit a 3. That was the real difference maker. This team hangs its hat on crunch time defense, not Ben Simmons making clutch FTs.

There is no excuse for your all star point guard to be shooting 25% from the free throw line in the playoffs. Embiid goes down, and instead of your other all star picking up the slack he gets in foul trouble early and watches as the bench mounts a comeback...comes back in and goes 50% from the line at the end of the game. It's embarrassing. You can get by beating the Wizards and probably the Hawks like that, but you're not going to be able to hide him down the stretch of games against the Nets or Bucks. This is the stuff I've been talking about. It's so frustrating because he is elite in other areas and obviously excels on the defensive side. Okay, he's not going to shoot, we all know that. But he needs to be aggressive and he absolutely needs to be a hell of a lot better from the free throw line. Jim Lynam said it best last night--something to the effect of Ben Simmons is already great basketball player, but he will never reach his full potential (superstar caliber player) until he improves those other areas of his game). He's right.

Also, I believe he's shooting 53% since he had that great run in February. Obviously that is just a disgusting effort.

Of course this is all a moo point if Jo is done. Fuck.

No I totally agree with you. 5-20 for the series is nauseating. I just don’t think that the 4/8 down the stretch is that concerning. When Embiid is back and the defense is humming in crunch time like it has all year, by playing the hack-a-Ben teams will be trading 1 point for 0. Not a good strategy.
  • RiotZactRiotZact Posts: 6,245
Also, if Tobi plays the way he did last night we are royally fucked. Looking at the stat sheet I would say that he just couldn’t get rolling because Embiid was out so the defense was zeroing in on him (which would be fine, because we only need him to excel when Jo is healthy).

But watching the game, he had EXTREMELY favorable matchups. Ish Smith, Beal, and Rui in 1-on-1 scenarios, resulting in turnovers or badly missed shots. He was blocked 6 times, 1 shy of tying the postseason record.

Let’s hope it was just a really off night for him and an anomaly.

Quite a bad leak.  He's out "Doubtful" Wednesday, so he likely won't travel to Washington with the team.

I totally get this take, and Doc had a similar take (about taking 1 point per possession every time).  But the fact is that it killed the clock.  If we got 1 point per possession but was able to run the 24 down each time, we probably would have won

Yeah. It's also getting into foul trouble early and just not doing a whole lot for the second half of the game. Stuff like this will come back to haunt us against better teams.

Gargano was the guy who said Embiid was fine. Maybe by fine he meant not to worry about him being done for the playoffs or something. They should dispose of this team without Jo tomorrow night as long as everyone plays to their capabilities. Then Jo still gets a week to rest for the Hawks (or Knicks if they come back).

Tomorrow is at home, not Washington. Outside shot he could play, I guess .
