We're not too bad off from the strike.

We are getting a bus from the airport to Finchly Tube station and from there we can get a bus to Hyde Park.

Sucks for a lot of people. What a stupid time to strike :?
The problem we have is we must get home that night. If we have to walk to Waterloo afterwards we'll miss a bit of the show. We can't stay in London as we have an early flight the next day.

I reckon the union are all Nickelback fans.

Maximum impact for them, it's Wimbledon and HRC! It's one of a series of strikes...
I'm getting the Heathrow Express to and from the airport and my hotel is near Paddington.

Great :? I don't think I'm going to have to use them...but lots of people will!

Thanks for the heads up but this stinks. I was going to take the tube from the airport to my hotel near Hyde Park. With the tube closed what's the next best way? A taxi will be VERY expensive.

Is there a bus that goes from Heathrow to the centre core?

Not directly to Hyde Park, but I know there is the National Express from Heathrow to Victoria Coach Station.

Plus the strike won't effect all lines so there will still be ways to get around on the tube. Think it list Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly as the lines that will be worst hit.

So for example Hyde Park to Waterloo its possible you may be able to do Marble Arch -> Oxford Circus -> Waterloo :?

Plus fingers crossed ... these strikes often get called off

EDIT: nuffingman. What time is your last train from Waterloo? Curfew at HRC is 10.30 and to walk would take less than an hour so should still be able to get trains to most places from Waterloo

2ND EDIT: :P Strike due to end 18.59 on the 25th so should be up and running and again post gig

or Green Park -> Vauxhall -> Waterloo (on a train)

or just get your train from Vauxhall if it stops there, i might end up doing that...

    Thanks redrock

Hey Chime I can't see those stations on the tube map. I'm actually going to Gloucster Road stn from the airport. What line is that - my guess Cockfosters? It's blue I know that much ; )

Edit - I see it now..blue is Piccadilly
  • Ed, Leanne, I saw Wintersleep in 2008. Although I don't like all their material, I do think they're a very good live band.

Here's 2 awesome songs for you to check out:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpKWJMLq-0g

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-iW0zL2LI0 (one of my all time favourite songs  )

If you get any material prior to HRC, I suggest Welcome To The Night Sky. It's their best material IMO
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Marble Arch is on the Central Line (red one)

Oxford Circus is on Central, Bakerloo and Victoria (red, brown and blue)

Green Park (mentioned by jrd) is on the Victoria (blue)

Gloucester Road is also on the Circle and District lines (Yellow and Green)

Although it is more expensive that the tube it will be cheaper than a taxi to get a train from Heathrow. Heathrow Express goes to Paddington which is also on the District and Circle lines

Then if you walk from the coach station to the tube station it's easy on the District or Circle line to get to Gloucester Road

    http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/1210.aspx

If you click on the by foot and cycle link you will see the coach station bottom left and the tube station (around the middle of the map)

Thanks again for all the info. edit - looks like I can take the tube form there - only 2 stops

National Ex seems much cheaper then Heathrow Ex.

Good to hear strikes often get called off..maybe I'll check again before I head to London.

Seems like there are so many options. Still overwhelmed on the # of lines. Toronto's only got 2 lines 5.5 mil people.

Speaking of London..are there any good record stores or music stores (with drums) you can recommend?

  • Dave has just informed me that we get the train to within 2 miles of Hyde Park and our hotel is a stones throw from the venue... so strike's shouldn't be a problem for us

Unless they continue into the Saturday... in which case, we need to get to the Easybus to get our Easyflight from our Easyhotel...

    Record shops

http://www.roughtraderecords.com/ - they have a couple of branches

    http://www.sisterray.co.uk/

    http://www.revivalrecords.uk.com/

Music stores - Denmark Street (nearest tube Tottenham Court Road - Central (red) and Northern (black)) is mainly music shops. Sorry I don't know if they have any drums

Had an awful day, got 6 days left in the office until the tour and I know they are all going to be hard thanks to government decisions made today, and I don't know if I will have a job to come back to.
Comments in the office that I should cancel my leave...but I'm not going to, which apparently will not look good for me! Great huh!

Good news, Boston boot arrived today, as did some very lovely jewellery and two friends have warned me there are birthday pressies in the post :)

ETA, and the stickers should be printed by Monday, they went into pre-press today!
