Picked up 'King Animal' redeeming my Nectar points. On first listen to side one it doesn't sound all that great. Disappointing as I love this album

Received by Physical Graffiti album that I won on eBay for $33 yesterday too... Holy shit, the vinyl was FILTHY, and the sleeves have very extreme damage that the seller never said anything about (a highly rated seller - 99.9% positive). So I was kind of shocked when I took it out. And the vinyl was rated M- and it's not even close. :x So beware of lps_mailorder_wisconsin I suppose. He sells tons of vinyl. On the other hand, it IS a 1975 US pressing for $33, so how disappointed can I really be? :)

Yeah that sucks a big one when that happens, you're happy to have the record and for a reasonable price, but it's not in the condition stated so it kinda bum's you out when you first see it.
I had a similar thing a while back with a record by Underworld I brought off a guy in France, he said the vinyl and sleeve NM, "near perfect condition', (his words). It wasn't, especially the sleeve, not even close. I contacted him and said I didn't want to leave negative feedback so how about a partial refund, he said "Oh I know how this goes..." implying that I'm trying to pull a fast one on him! Then he offered me a 5 Euro's refund, I said forget it and just left it as is. It's just not worth the hassle.

Had this happen just recently with a couple used albums I purchased from Amazon. Condition of both was listed as Very Good and both were virtually unplayable. One was ridiculously warped. I asked for a refund from both sellers and they did give me one and didn't even have me send back the records. Each of them were about $9 with shipping and it just wasn't worth it for them for me to send back.

I've had mixed results buying used vinyl online. I tend to stick to my local record store or Half Price Books so I can inspect them before buying. Although I have had better experiences with sellers on Discogs. They tend to grade their stuff pretty accurately and most of the records will sound pretty good after a good cleaning.

Yikes. Well, at least my album is very playable. More crackle that it should have with an M- rating, but it still sounds pretty awesome (after I gave the discs a good cleaning). I would have been pissed if the vinyl wasn't playable or skipped or something. But I have only had GREAT experiences with buying 2nd hand vinyl online otherwise. Actually, most of the time I'm pleasantly surprised by how good the condition is - even better than described sometimes. But this is a good reminder that it's still a risk. Certainly buying in person is still the best way to go, but luck plays a much bigger factor when it comes to actually finding what you want.

Sorry, I don't remember the name of it. It's in a white bottle with some writing on it. Whatever the guy at the record/electronics specialty store I frequent gave me. That's the best bet - go to your favorite record store and ask the owner what he uses.

I do the wood glue thing. A lot of effort but totally worth it for most used stuff I buy.
