    155-143-158-106-58-47-37-29-27-20-21-23-24-22-21-28-26-18-19-19-16-8-8-6-7-6-5-5-4-5-7-5-3-2-2-2-3-4-3-2-4-7-7-7-7-8-10-9-12-15-15-13-11-6-7-7-9-10-7-8-13-9-11-12-17-15-16-16-16-15-15-17-21-24-21-24-25-24-25-23-24-26-26-28-31-30-30-29-28-19-19-23-23-25-29-25-25-28-33-35-39-42-43-40-39-34-29-38-42-44-47-46-53-52-53-61-64-63-67-59-60-58-53-61-71-75-67-73-65-69-73-68-73-70-71-73-70-75-78-79-85-88-93-98-97-107-117-112-118-120-115-124-124-117-112-110-96-96-84-94-92-91-99-105-105-111-104-118-122-131-127-135-127-124-133-135-130-142-129-113-111-113-114-110-103-108-105-118-111-108-108-101-119-124-119-132-130-149-147-172-161-172-167-165-190-180-183-171-166-151-139-143-152-159-162-168-181-186-183-168-168-173-155-164-169-167-175-178-180-182-173-170-169-178-187-178-188-188-191-183-184-188-186-176-167-145-160-174-181-186

    After twenty weeks, "Backspacer" sits at #118 on The Billboard 200. How does this compare with prior Pearl Jam studio albums in their twentieth week of release?

    "Vs.": #26
    "Vitalogy": #33*
    "No Code": #92
    "Yield": #104
    "Ten": #106
    "Backspacer": #118
    "Binaural": Off chart
    "Pearl Jam": Off chart
    "Riot Act": Off chart

    *Does not include two weeks on chart when available on vinyl only (debuted at #55 vinyl-only, then fell to #173 before leaping to #1 upon the CD release).

    Falling 20 spots in one week... With "Just Breathe" possibly stalling out a little bit, perhaps it's time for a new single to hit and that rumored TV appearance to give this album some sustainability. The new Alice in Chains album, which was released right around the same time, now sits ahead of Backspacer.

    I wouldn't read too much into the record's position relative to Alice in Chains. Last week, PJ was ahead of AIC. This week, AIC is ahead of PJ. Next week, they could easily flip again. In that area of the chart, you're talking about sales in the 5,000-6,000-a-week range, and a difference between the two of less than 1,000 copies in the current chart week. The bottom sales line is that "Backspacer" has sold about 485,000 copies and "Black Gives Way To Blue" has sold about 360,000 copies. Interestingly, AIC's songs have been more embraced by rock radio-- "Check My Brain" spent multiple weeks at #1 on Billboard's Rock Songs chart, while "The Fixer" stalled at #2; "Just Breathe" has had a long slow climb to #8, while "Your Decision" has moved pretty quickly to #2. It goes to show you how rock radio support only translates into limited sales. Pearl Jam's larger sales are partly due to a bigger and more passionate fan base, but also partly due to "The Fixer" and "Just Breathe" getting some mainstream top 40 airplay.

    Hey BF29354 , your comments strike rich.
    That TV appearance cant come quick enough and once Just Breath has run its course I would love Got Some to hit the airwaves.

    i never understood why supersonic was never released as a single... or why no one talks about it
    it has more of a hook than got some and amongst the waves, it's a fairly short song so it's not like it gets boring or drags on, and it has a sweet solo.
    i like amongst the waves, but supersonic is a lot better.
    unthought known would make a terrible single so everyone needs to stop talking about it.

    i'm thinking 5 more weeks with or without the snl appearance. might add a couple more if the snl gig gives it a huge bump.

    I think you could be looking at as few as two more weeks. A fall into the 180s or 190s next chart week, then an uptick for the chart week after "SNL," and then a return to the original trajectory the following week, which would land it outside the top 200. The best-case scenario is that the "SNL" performance of "Just Breathe" lights a fire at radio that fuels a sustained sales boost for the album, but that's unlikely.
