Mr. Lippman: Who do you read?
    George: I like Mike Lupica.
    Mr. Lippman: Mike Lupica?
George: He’s a sports writer for the Daily News. I find him very insightful…
Mr. Lippman: No, no, no. I mean authors.
George: Lot of good ones…lot of good ones. Uh, I-I don’t even want to mention anyone because I’m afraid I’m going to leave somebody out.
    Mr. Lippman: Name a couple.
    George: W-Who do I like? I like, uh…Art…Vandelay.
    Mr. Lippman: Art Vandelay?
George: He’s an obscure writer. Beatnik, from the village.
    Mr. Lippman: What’s he written?
    George: …Venetian Blinds.

That said, Drew needs to be on this team

I'm no authority on stephen drew, but do you think he can handle new york? he and his bro seem a little sensitive

He's such a bitter little Met fan even in a article like this where he praises the Yankees he still finds a way to get his shots in.

For as long as this rumors been out there it sure hasn't affected his ability to keep landing high profile actresses and models. I wonder if they get gift baskets too or is that just reserved for his one nighters.

They both won WS in Boston. Stephen Drew would be fine in NY.

Long talking about Cano's lack of hustle down the line. That is one thing I will not miss about Cano. It would piss me off to see jogging down the line, when he could have made the plays look closer than they really were.

remember when cano first came up and he would ALWAYS swing first pitch? that used to infuriate me. pitchers realized this and would always throw the first pitch out of the zone and he was always up there hacking at it. always started off 0 and 1. still finished that year just under .300 and must have been told to knock it off because the following season his average skyrocketed up to .340 or so.

and i don't know why long is mentioning this to the media now, what's done is done. but i am glad the yankees did address with him on several occassions rather than turning their head.

I didn't know Girardi had benched him for lazy defense. I had noticed there were grounders he could have easily dove for to stop and get the runner out because he has a great arm.

  • To me that's not the end of the world.

I'd definitely like him to hustle on every play but I liked him more for the fact of playing every game, hitting 30 home runs or more, and driving in 100 runs. If that's the trade-off so be it, second baseman who produce like that don't grow on trees.

    Yeah, completely agree with this.

Also annoyed the team still feels the need to talk about this. They sound like a jilted lover. Move on.

I don't think Kevin Long sought out John Harper though.

Had meetings all morning and didn't see any of Jeter's press conference but from what I read it sounds like he still loves to play but is getting tired of everything that goes along with it. Travel, rehab, media, etc. Completely understandable.

Not a fan of him retiring though. Ugh, 2015 is going to be so weird

“You try to play hard, you try to have respect for your team, your teammates, your opponents, fans, reporters; everyone that you come in contact with in your job,” Jeter said. “You want to be remembered as someone that played hard. But for me, I’ve always said it time and time again, the most sacred thing, the thing that means the most to me is to be remembered as a Yankee. That’s what I’ve always wanted to be is to be a Yankee. And I have to thank the Steinbrenner family that’s here today, and our late owner, The Boss, because they gave me the opportunity to pretty much live my dream my entire life, and the great thing about being a Yankee is you’re always a Yankee, so in that sense it never ends. So being a Yankee is good enough for me.”

    From Lohud

Smart question from Bob Klapisch today: Given the fact Masahiro Tanaka and Hiroki Kuroda have remarkably similar deliveries, will the Yankees keep them separated in the rotation? “You always think about what’s the best way to line up your rotation so there’s a different look every day,” Girardi said. “Obviously that’s something to consider.”

Interesting maybe go 2 & 4 with Nova in the 3rd spot. Yankees should skip Tananka the first series in Houston anyway and let him start in Toronto don't want another CMW situation down there.

I sense sarcasm only bc I can't believe you think that makes sense. With Ellsbury signed, this deal makes no sense. I was in agreement with letting Cano go, but when you waste 52 mill like this it makes no sense.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
