Forget the avg. salary. Totally meaningless. It's about the total contract. $200 million and 10 years have never worked in a single contract. Yankess smart not to go there.

How does Felix Hernandez fell about his hometown discount now?

A-Rod's first 10 year $250 million contract worked

Not really he opted out after 7 only one that you could say actually worked was DJ 10/189

In terms of production, yes. And the opt out could have benefited them of they didn't re-sign

But, would even the first 7 years have worked out if he didn't use steroids?

I think in this post-roids era 10 year deals are a utter and complete disaster unless you are on the brink of winning a championship in the next 2 years.

Assuming he used all those years other than the 3. Even without them i believe he would have put up similar numbers. Well close to them.

I can't fathom this deal. altho a good player, cano has absolutely no power to put asses in the seats.

Beltran 3/$45M>Not much of a surprise. You knew the Yanks would sign him, Choo or Cruz. But, would they sign one of the others too?

How about a pitcher? or 2?

So, Ellsbury, McCann, Beltran and Kuroda for $299 million or Cano for $240 mill and 3+ more years commitmment?

Props to Cashman. Lessons learned. Job well done. Will miss Cano, but Yankees are clearly better off in any way you look at this.

Not just that, but he spent 3 years In last place in Texas and they paid the Yankees 10 mill a year to take hi. Off their hands. So no way can you say that contract was a success..agree that jeter is the only 10 year deal that has ever worked. Giving a guy over 30 a ten year deal is dumb
  • So does Beltran signing mean Gardner will be traded? Was really looking forward to Gardner and ellsbury wreaking havoc on the bases and playing the best outfield in baseball. Now have ellsbury Beltran Gardner Soriano I chirp and wells under contract. Wells will probably just be released

He will play Vs right handers. Soriano will be primary DH with some of Of vs lefties (also some to let Beltran and mccann get some dh) to let Jeter get some time at dh.

You also forgot ichiro. Wells will be waived.

Gardner can probably get you a better deal. But I don't want to give up all that speed. Gardner and Ellsbury at the top, or 9 and 1. Or Ichiro 9, Garder 1, and Ellsbury 2.

    What a fucking offseason.

Don't like 3 years for Beltran at all, but not like it's gonna cripple them. Beltran is finally a Yankee. It was inevitable. Three free agencies in the making.

This lineup is not bad. Going to be a weird team but turn your eyes to the staff now

That would be awesome if they could get some sucker to give something of value for him. Even a #4 starter would be awesome.

172 -.298 -52/56 (you forgot to put in 9 CS for gardy)
147 -.273 (20 pts above career) - 24/33 and going in the wrong direction.

Not going to argue stats. Ellsburys the better player by a huge margin. And one lefty coming to the friendliest RF porch and the other leaving (in theory).

Don't get me wrong, they will use your line up to convince someone they are equal in hopes of robbing a #3 or 4 starter. I love that they are saying they're not looking to trade him too. I hope there's a gm out there thinking the way you do.

The Yankees have combined for $299 million over 16 years for McCann, ellsbury, Kuroda and Beltran while cano and granderson have gotten $300 million and 14 years

“Just a player like that, putting on the pinstripes, and being able to play your whole career in New York means something – to me, obviously,” Sabathia said after an event showcasing his wife Amber’s CCandy clothing line at The Mall at Short Hills. “It didn’t mean that much to him. It’s a difficult choice being a free agent. And he made a tough choice. I know he’s happy with his decision, and his family’s happy. So that’s good.”
