  • Also, the debut of Speed of Sound was awesome! I'm glad that I was one of the first to hear the band play this one live!

I was there for night 1 & 2 and feel night 2 was far superior in both audience participation/excitment AND music selection. While i loved night 1, it seemed that the lull of several slower songs brought down the energy that opened the show. That energy returned later in the night, but that lull seemed to slow the show down.

Im also going to the Saturday show and I'm kind of sad I couldnt afford Friday tickets... I'm afraid of what I might miss in this "we're going to try to play all of the songs we know" thing... thank goodness for the bootlegs

This is my third show on this tour, and it is by far the best. Saw them in Seattle (1) and LA (4). The set list was AMAZING, wow.

I keep telling people, that I'm no longer going to waste money seeing them on the West Coast because the East Coast shows are so much better. Seriously.

I was 4th row, center and everyone I met was totally rocking out. So unlike the other cities.

Social D rocked the fucking house too... caught their drumsticks and got their set list. Seeing Eddie and Mike come out for Ball and Chain made my night.

You were like a highlight of the Social D set!! You were a mad man!!! Glad to see someone get such enjoyment and get the prize sticks at the end

  • OH!! LAST NITE IN PHILLY WAS A DREAM COME TRUE!!! THE ENERGY WAS SO INCREDIBELE AND EDDIE VEDDER IS AN HONORY PHILADELPHIAN!!! I'M SO HAPPY!!
  • These are not concerts, they are Pearl Jam Adventures!!! What can you say about the show, old songs(Push Me-Pull Me), first time songs (Speed of Sound), and Even Flow with super high energy. The place was rocking with the Phillies winning game 1, the band kept the place updated in a great way. AMAZING!
Same can be said for the Wishlist Foundation preparty-fundraiser. Dave & Mike are doing an AWESOME job.

    GARDEN!!!!

Amazing . . . . ugh I wish you could just buy select songs from these shows . . . . it's getting expensive as I am buying all these boots specifically for ONE song :-) I bought Vancouver strictly for No Way, three of the LA shows strictly for Tremor Christ, Hunger Strike and Crown Of Thorns . . . now do I buy this show for Garden? Perhaps . . .

LOVED IT! I will not compare to night one I loved them both equally but here goes my highlights (and some low ones)

Started off getting an email from a fellow 10Cer who decided last minute to not take my extra pair and I could not get rid off them  , but hey its only money and I wouldnt let it ruin my night (but it sucked really really bad).

I was in section 326 (non 10C) and I have to say the seats were soooooo awesome. Right next to Mike and were far better than my 10C seats night 1. (Sorry) I got to see the guys coming out behind the stage jumping up and down with excitement. The place was rockin and the Phils winning were just an extra treat. Animal opening!!! Thats pretty much all that needs to be said. I loved how they threw in Given To Fly last minute too. It was definately not part of the plan. They're really throwing out some rarities (PUSH ME/PULL ME) And I have to say you lottery winners are so freaking lucky. I hope one day (preferably VERY soon I get to be that lucky) The guys are so energetic and seems like they're really having a great time. As another person said, it was a McCready night. That guy..... wow!

    Oh and Raaaaauuuuuul!!!!!!!

I got to take my sister to her first PJ show last night and she loved every second of it. They're energy and excitement is just contagious. Cant wait til Friday and especially Saturday!

I was on the floor and I saw them come in towards the end of Social D and I was SHOCKED that child had no headphones on. The father had her/him pressed to his chest covering her/his ear. I hadn't thought about them again until seeing your post. If they couldn't get a babysitter - one of them should have sacrificed going.

What a great, great night. My highlights include:

Animal - great, great choice for an opener. Set the tone for a high-energy show.
Elderly Woman - loved the crowd participation on this one.
GTF - They nailed this song. The crowd was crazy singing along. Unbelievable.
The Fixer - First time I've seen it (or any of the Backspacer) live. Crowd seemed to love it. Definitely has a great energy in the live setting.
Just Breathe - Wow. Played to perfection and the string quartet was perfect.
Blood - Blew me away. Love the funky guitar in the breakdown and Ed nailed the vocals.
Porch - Just flat out sick.

The energy in the place was fantastic. I don't think it exceeded 2003 in the Spectrum, but it came awfully, awfully close. I cannot wait until Saturday. As Ed said last night, it's such a special time to be in Philadelphia. Between this and the World Series, I'm going to average about 4 hours of sleep per night and I could care less. I'll sleep in about a week and a half.

I understand that they are playing different songs (than usual), but why the lack of Backspacer songs in these last two shows? Night 1 has 5, night 2 has 4.

  • In the 4 nights, they've stated they are trying to play every song off every album
which doesn't leave room for alot of repeats, which explains your lack of Backspacer songs.
These 4 shows really have to be looked at like one long night.

If I'm not mistaken other than the Fixer , no other song that was played Tuesday was played Wednesday

Wow! What a great continuation of the Pearl Jam Philly journey... I am so glad I decided to be "crazy" and get tickets to all four shows. This experience is one that I will recall and tell stories about for years on end.

Tonight I had my concert buddy along that usually hits the local PJ shows with me. He was amazed with the show, got a bunch of songs he wanted to hear and some he wasn't familiar with. It is always great to take a friend that appreciates the band and gets excited for the show.

As for the show itself, great! I had fan club seats, section 214 row 4 with a 318xxx number. Couldn't have been more pleased, outside of hitting the lottery. I like how PJ is opening with "non-traditional" openers for these shows and keeping us up in the air with the set list, with exception of Just Breathe. It was nice being part of the crowd to be the first to witness Speed Of Sound, I was fortunate enough to be at the show when they first played Gone as well. Kudos to the guys wearing the Mike Is God shirts, wish I would have thought of that. Push Me, Pull Me sounded off to me, love the lyrics, but the music just didn't sound right to me, not complaining though. I also liked that the band brought the girl on stage to show the score, not a lot of bands would be that unselfish and share the spotlight.

Thought it was funny when Ed thanked Philly for being so welcoming to the band as he wondered if that was how Philly was in general or just towards them. You could sense the crowd feeling the latter. Hey Ed, try wearing a Cowgirls jersey to an Eagles (did I spell that right iggles fans?) game and see the ovation you receive!!

Not to be a Negative Nancy but one thing I found disappointing with the show was the crowd appreciation of Social Distortion. I noticed how a good portion of the crowd stood and cheered when Ed and Mike came on stage to play with them, but once they left they went back to sitting in their seats. Seriously!! Do you realize what a great band Pearl Jam gave us as an opening act? I'm not trying to write the concert rules, but come on, at least give them a chance and pay a little more attention a band of their stature deserves.

With PJ closing the night with Yellow Ledbetter it increases the odds of my prediction of Last Exit being the closer for Saturday, just seems fitting to me....

To sum up, thanks Pearl Jam for another great night of Rock and Roll in an incredible venue. All the driving and lack of sleep will be worth it when all is said and done!! Prove me Right!!! Until Friday folks!!
If there were no Angels would there be no sin?
  • so far what have been the start/end times for the opener and pj? just curious. see you saturday!

Thers no "Push Me Pull Me" here, the man in front row is drinking beer!!!!! It should be Push Me Pull Me at a PJ gig, not a lazy audience as this. WTF, americans cant you rock?

Why do you care so much about the audience? Are you at the shows? Is their inability to meet your "rock" standards affecting you in some profound way? Chill out and enjoy the bootlegs!

And don't give the argument that US shows are bad due to GA versus reserved. WE have no control over that! There is no survey taken on what type of show we prefer. We get what the BAND provides us, which is reserved seating, which does restrict the amount of rocking out due to space constraints. Also don't forget we have the FREEDOM to rock out however the hell we want to, actively or passively.

Sorry for the rant, but the crowd complaints are just getting absurd.

Edit - I know I am being a little hypocritical to some extent since I just wrote about the lack of appreciation shown to Social D, but I am comparing showing respect versus sitting in your seat and texting / updating facebook, not how one enjoys a show.

  • I am still holding the biggest smile. Last night was amazing, I thought nothing could ever top Bonnaroo.
Heard pushme, pullme through an open door duing the soundcheck - along with garden and habit - the sound outside was even amazing. Ed even talked about it alittle bit during the show
    Can't wait for Friday

Anybody know what time soundcheck was? I'm going both Friday & Saturday nights and would like to stop by and listen in on that. Also, how were lines getting 10c tickets? I went once to one of the Camden shows, and the wait in line was terrible.

On a sidenote, I really enjoyed the show last night. Really liked when EV put the guitar on his head and deflected the light into the crowd around and around the Spectrum - I don't remember what song that was. Either way, it really made it quite an experience for me. That, and knowing the Phillies were taking care of business!!! Loved all the song dedications to Raul, Shane Victorino, Brad Lidge, etc.

Booo! Ushers should have spotted that and produced some ear plugs at least. And there may be that, he mighta had ear plugs in you couldnt' see -- my 10-year-old has a set of blue gel ear plugs that are hard to spot. She herself reached for the cans a few songs into the opening act.
