Ten club pairs at the shows- observation

So I brought the friend I was visiting in Chicago Sunday night, who happens to be another female. We were looking around before the show and noticed that there were groups of guys and girls with a guy, but no other pairs of women around us. Then the two pairs behind us sat down, and all four were women! It was hilarious because I heard them have the same conversation we had been having- how come there are no other pairs of women anywhere around us in the ten club seats? It was actually kind of funny that all women were sitting all grouped together.

Normally I wouldn't have been with another female, I would have been with my brother. But I always think it's strange that such a huge percentage of fans are male, and even moreso that the women only seem to tag along with their lovies. What's up with that? I know some of the most hardcore fans out there are women, but the low numbers always amaze me. Despite witnessing the fan base at every show, I've never thought of Pearl Jam as being inaccessible to women (many songs, to me, seem to appeal to my feminitity), and add to that the fact that band is comprised of 5 smoking hot men...I dunno, just seems weird to me. Probably a pointless post, but I'm just on a Pearl Jam high from the weekend.

I noticed this in Toronto too. I had never really considered it before because I usually go with my friend (male) who has a super low number. But this time I took a friend of mine and I think I saw maybe one other pair of women at the show.

It really is a sausage party at these things, haha.

because guys will go to a concert with a buddy. chicks are needy and need a guy to take them.

and when was the last time you saw a girl go solo to a show??? never? yet guys go solo all the time. why, cause we got some.....balls.

  • I bought my pair(of tickets) and didn't know who would be going with me...asked two of my friends and one ended up coming along (another girl). However, if no one had come with, I would have driven the 5.5hrs to Chicago & back (the same night, mind you) solo. I'm also flying to Portland alone but my brother will be going since he lives there.

So see, all girls aren't needy...you don't think I'm needy do you?..seriously do you think I'm needy? Do you??

Hahaha I've been to a million shows solo, including Pearl Jam! I've flown across the country solo to see Pearl Jam, solo. I can't imagine any girl thinking they need a guy to go to a show. That explanation doesn't make sense.

You know what's a good show? POISON! The music is horrible but there are a lot of hot women in their 40's at their shows. Pearl Jam is a sausage-fest....but nothing like Rage Against The Machine. Rage shows were 95% guys and 5% girls....and those girls could totally kick my ass if they wanted to you.

I guess Lauri and I are weirdos because I've also gone to quite a few shows solo, including traveling solo to see them. I've never thought it was a big deal but now that I think of it, I don't think any of my female friends would travel solo/attend a show solo. To each his own, I guess.

You know it's funny you say that. Because, I always travel to the shows alone as hubby's not a fan but understands that we have addictions to feed :D I have many female friends who do the same thing and we're talking hardcore fandom here; 30-40 shows under their belt, travelled to the other side of the world just to see one show type of hardcore. Then again, my seats are usually next to a bunch of frat type guys, beer at hand, having fun types which is fine by me but yeah, I have all these people I know but I never get to sit with them. The only exception to this actually was last year's Hartford and both Mansfield shows.
I have no patience for bad music and stupid people...

I always go to PJ shows with a girlfriend AND travel alone to shows. But it is a sausage fest, I try to bring a single friend and play wingman. So much fun..(and attention).

Not a weirdo. I have gone to NYC and San Fran solo before. I still prefer to take a girlfirend with me, though. :D

The guy i met in the lot was trying to convince my friend & I that we were mistakenly at a Def Leppard show...Poison was the opening act. It could be possible that the smell coming from our car made him think we were easy marks. We got a GOOOOOOD laugh out of it.

That is not true. I go to shows by myself. I prefer it. I can go wherever I want at the show more easily than when I'm with someone. I've seen other girls at shows by themselves too.
I have been told I have some balls though.

  • Well I'm flying solo to Philly for 2 shows to celebrate my 21st birthday! I am meeting up with another girl I know for the Halloween show but I'm going with a stranger from the board to the 30th. I have no problem with it.

I'd never been to a show completely by myself until this summer, and I went to 7 Ottawa Bluesfest shows by myself because none of my friends would shell out the money for 9 out of 12 nights! :D

I always go to shows with my best friend. We are both girls. To prove your point...we were walking down the street from the United Center after night 1 and noone could get a cab. Then a cab stopped for us and we got in. The cabbie said "I picked you girls out of all of those guys"...he was not a murderer or rapist and we made it back to the Hyatt. ;)

If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this

I went with my husband to Chicago N1, and one of my best girl friends from college to N2. I will admit that for N2, my friend and I spent the entire Bad Religion set chatting it up outside of the entrance to our section. What can I say? I only see her a few times a year! Oh, and if the two guys from Boston that we shared a cab w/ after the show happen to read this, I hope you had a great time at Rush & Division and made it home safely!

No offense, but it is common for me to hear females talking during concerts.. Of course, there are always the drunk males as well... I like to be around people who do not need to talk during concerts.

oh and by the way, i go to Pearl Jam concerts with my sister cuz she's a huge fan

I have always been comfortable doing things by myself even as a child. I have absolutely no problem going to a show alone, let alone anything else, i.e. movies, dinner, etc. Thankfully that has paid off and I see it as one of the benefits of being married to someone in the armed forces. Why should I sit at home alone for six months or more when I can go out and see and do what I want by myself?

Personally, I believe that people who are afraid of doing or seeing something that they really like just because they are alone probably don't really enjoy their own company and that is sad :? :( :)
