Fair enough ;) I apologize for being a bit too sensitive about this issue. I just want to protect the integrity of my fav band and sometimes when I see some fans becoming a bit too obsessive and entitled (which is pretty common around here) I get worried that someday the shows may lose some of their integrity, spontaneity and genuineness because the band will think that folks will buy tix and applaud no matter how well or how poorly they play---apathy will set in like it did for the Dead and Phish.

you hate low light :o
that's it, i am not talking to you on tour now  plus your 10 shows is more than my 9 shows  i might have to go to salt lake after all just to match you  and hope they play low light ;)

i tour for shows more for the friends, old and new that do the same thing. for me they are more important than seeing the show. that is just a bonus. a few of the contributers to this thread, i have met in different states and countries, and they are the same ones i will be meeting with on tour.

as for the sense of entitlement, i don't like it. people just seem to expect to much
and on that note, pearljgirl2010, i think you are entitled to hate low light, just as i am entitled to hate parachutes! not sure how it relates to the thread, but whatever

I met my wife here...you can too! Don't lose hope!
  • Yes we do need so many shows!! Even though I live near philly I normally take a road trip for another show each year. Actually may head south next tour - maybe have a better chance at great 10c seats with my crappy 10c number vs fighting the large number of 10c'ers in the northeast. Point is save your money, have a rainy day fund. Or just remember life takes mastercard, not amercian express.

And for the haters of Low light, I can understand. Personally I like it alot but everyone needs a "pee" song You know that one song that really does nothing for you and gives you a great chance to run for the bathroom.
So many amazing shows! Thank you.

Low Light is one of those songs that is far and away better live than on the album.

A couple more thoughts that came to me while perusing http://www.touringfans.net

Now some of this might sound like I'm splitting hairs, but it's midnight on the west coast and I'm a bit slap happy. :D

First and foremost the mini tour that is going through Europe, TOR, CHI, and a couple of festivals IS NOT part of the Backspacer tour.

What is it? A bit of a mini tour as far as I can tell. Perhaps more closely related to the 2008 East Coast tour than anything else, and some dates to hit around three festivals that the band chose to do.

Check out the logo for the on sale announcements in the news section and you will see the picture on the cartoon ticket stubs are different for shows pre and post Seattle on September 21st.

So for the OP who was upset about people traveling to shows and bumping him off, the evidence does not really prove that this is happening, at least not for this mini round of shows.

There are 176 people signed up for the Toronto show on touring fans .net. Exactly 150 of them put their location. Of that 150, only ten or twelve of them wouldn't qualify TOR as a hometown/only show EVEN IF WE INCLUDED ALL THE OTHER KNOWN DATES.

When those shows were announced, Philly was not known, yet there are only 7 people on the list from PA.

In fact the only other known shows at that time were the Europe leg (no one on the list is coming from Europe), Chicago (There is 1 on the list), None from San Fransisco, None from Austin, or all of California and Texas for that matter. Calgary wasn't known yet. There is one from Salt Lake City, and of course a bunch from New York and the rest of the North East, BUT as it now stands there are no shows up there, so many are almost as close to TOR as they are to Philly.

Taking this leg as a separate event, even the 1 show limit wouldn't have changed anything about who is attending this show.

Now I'll grant you that these numbers are only a percentage of all people attending, but even if you multiply them, I don't think there is a case that under the system proposed anything would be much different.

Now to be upset with the way shows are released, fine. That would fit into an argument. If you consider all the shows in 2009 as part of a 'Backspacer Tour', and if more shows are announced, (throughout the North East for example), then you might make an argument that if all the shows were announced together, then it would be really obvious as to where the home town shows might align.

But at the very least there will be upwards of 6 months between the Toronto show, and even the first hint of more US dates in 2010. I mean if shows are announced to commence in February, there is the 6 months. My guess is we don't get more Backspacer shows until spring, or at least none in the cold northeast.

If a hometown system was in place, I don't think anything would have changed for the OP and the TOR show, and who is and can attend with Fan Club seats.

Yes, yes..... waaaaay too much time on my hands. Here is 20 minutes I will never get back. ;)
  • This thread got me thinking. It actually inspired me. So i bought a ticket to a 5th show.

    I bought a ticketmaster ticket to LA1. I'm now going to LA 1, 2, 3, 4 and SD. The last 4 are 10C tickets.

I was always thinking i didn't think 4 was enough... I've seen them 4 times in 11 years, i'm about to make that 9.

Went to 2 Euro shows. Have at least 8 US shows planned. Using a 10c ticket for each and every one of them! ahahahahahaha (that was an evil laugh by the way).

I'm attending thirteen shows this summer and fall and yes, I do need to attend this many. First, I have the available vacation . Second, Pearl Jam is my choice of how I want to enjoy the holiday I've worked to be able to enjoy. Third, PJ is my favorite band. Fourth though it could be first, the touring fan experience is like a drug to me...amazing shows , amazing people met, and a means to seeing amazing sites on , thus far, five continents .

Sweet. I'm very jealous. Hopefully I can convince my wife to take a vacation to Europe one of these years and hit up a few shows.

I've got 10c tix to 15 shows on this particular tour and I feel no guilt or call it what you may, whatsoever. Each show is a different, almost religious, experience.

Not happy with missing the States this time, specialy Seattle, but the intense Euro stint was a hell of a ride. See you on world Tour 2010! Hope you get your ticket.

OK! We will. Of course, that means the band won't be there either. You OK with that?
