I just want to say, standing at the back for the encores I could see the whole crowd and everyone around me in the tiers was going nuts for all the songs.

Cracking set list and performance. My first time seeing them and I feel lucky for doing so. What was the beautiful piano piece that preceded their entrance? Got my hairs on end and they never went down through the entire show. So hot in there though and some poor girl behind me passed out as they played Black. I hope she still managed to hear it through her faint.

IMO both shows were amazing in their own rights. SBE for the atmosphere, the intimacy and the special guests. Manchester for the setlist, the audience and the fact that my mate has been waiting for 20 years to see them and it was his first show :O) it was my 3rd so until now it was always a sore point.

Those photos are absolutely amazing. I presume you had a photo pass to get those shots!

Thanks. Unfortunately I didn't have a pass for this gig - I would have given my right arm for one though. Just managed to get close and pick my shots.

Crowd seemed OK from where we were seated (102), apart from the dickhead with the mohawk who spent the night crowd surfing. Maybe watch the fucking band next time, son.

It was warm in the MEN (probably the hottest I've known it to be). To avoid the crowd-crush, they should have done what they did in Dusseldorf (and other gigs) and have a barrier on the floor to split it in two. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Still, we had a great night in our seats! *smug mode*

Yeah, Rotterdam and Berlin were like that this year, not the 2 English shows (SBE obviously doesn't need that).

I reckon the intro was the same as in Rotterdam, which was a piece by Philip Glass called "Metamorphosis Two"

I stood in front of Mike, which was away from the Mohawk-kid, so I had a great show as well. 1st show, and when your favourite PJ song is Leash and vs is your favourite album, it was a spectacular night. My top five wishes for the gig beforehand was Leash, Wash, Indifference, Go and In Hiding. No joke. Sorry that your night wasn't as good as previous nights Hinn, guys like that should be kicked straight out!

The Manchester show was the least favourite of the 4 I went to. The crowd were attrocious. I've never been so disappointed by a crowd (again, this is only where I was!) :x I'll be hard pushed to ever go to Manchester again. :!:

Aside from London in 2007, I've never known a Pearl Jam show where the standing crowd was heavily into the show so far back. It was the same in Dublin in 2006. The crowd were awful that night....most of them just seemed like pissed up idiots who had come purely to see the band play Alive. At least the Manchester crowd were all on their feet!! 8-)

But I actually wasn't "that far back". I was near the front, only maybe 20 or so rows? back. The crowd weren't even moving for Alive or Even Flow. Maybe it was just those that were on Mikes side, cos there seemed to be movement on Stones side (for once!)

I was Mike's side in Manchester and I confirm - there was no movement.

Not because we didn't want to move, oh no, it is because everyone in the room wanted to move and wanted to move to Mike's side - and there was no space left for a molecule of oxygen let alone a finger!

I was squeezed to the rails the whole night, even during Present Tense, pretty much gave up on the notion of waving to Even Flow because my blood flow was cut off to my arms.

Had an awesome time anyway. Jeff is king. :P
  • The Manchester show was good... Last Exit was a welcome surprise (mainly because audiodave wanted to see it like no one's business and seeing his face when it kicked in was worth the ticket price alone :D ) and the set on the whole was brilliant! :D

The only negative thing I will say about Manchester is that, to me at least, the crowd seemed really hostile. People (mainly GA, I have to admit) were rude, forceful and determined to get down the front regardless of who they trod on. I've seen PJ at festivals and their own shows and this was by far my least favourite crowd. I have to say that it did put a bit of a damper on the evening for me.
exactly..and 1 of 5 never stand up of his chair..i was 10c seated people dont even clap their hands..and in black and alive no passion at all..after 7 shows i see tthis was the worst crowd i ever see in a rock concert,,and if u compare it with the next day one?O.M.G...London was so amazing!!!!!!

    Okay....you're talking bollocks.

I was sat about two seats away from you, and I know because you were hanging that flag off the railings in front. Everyone around you was into it so you must have had your eyes shut or something!!

Perhaps. But when people just start making stuff up to bad mouth a show that some folk actually enjoyed, it gets a bit annoying.

too right, there is a serious amount of bollocks as far as I'm concerned in this thread.

    but each to their own.

For me this show was awesome, the crowd was good (although strangely i dont to go to a PJ show to watch the god damn crowd) and i thought the set was perfect (until i saw what Chicago got ;) )

Manchester rocked. If you didnt get that, I'm sorry. My favourite show I ever saw them play

I have to agree, Manchester was amazing, I don't get all the negativity.

Me either, I had an amazing night. We were in the middle of middle (if you catch ma twix) of standing we had loads of room, everyone around us was singing, dancing/pogo-ing, we a shuffled around so that a girl who was shorter than us could see better, we could hear everything. During Black we all had our arms around each other singing and swaying, absorbing the moment and other peeps were doing the same. Maybe it was because I was with three ace people watching an amazing band, but we had an immense night.
Maybe the problems with the sound meant some people couldn't get into it in the first half, dunno, but my mate reckoned the MEN can be a funny venue.
Two of my friends who were with me in manchester went to the O2 and said granted it was also an amazing night, they said they thought it was probably a bit better, they preferred the set list and people did seem more into it, but that it took nothing away from Manchester.

Al, its all subjective isnt it?

Bollocks to me is not bollocks to someone else.

Its hard to comprehend someone not digging it like i did, but then again these things are all about perspective.

Rats is getting a huge amount of love this tour also, but is that because its an amazing song, or is it because its rare? I mean if it was a staple part of the set I doubt it would even get a mention.

That is so true. In comparison I found London crowd rougher than Manchester one and I was exactly at the same point both nights (10 meters from stage in front of Jeff). I find both Manchester and London shows amazing with a slight preference for London.
Regarding the sound, maybe Ed was referring to the multiple problems he had during Manchester with his guitars and mics.

+1! I was 2 rows in front of that flag and nearly EVERYONE around me was standing. The only person I saw sitting was a girl next to me, she came with her husband but wasn't actually a fan-she was pissed up and fell asleep during Black

I don't understand the people that say there was no crowd participation either-from where I was standing the crowd were in great voice. They lead the "dooh dooh's" in Black at the end of the song, they didn't re-create that as well at the O2, the floor was heaving too. Imo of course ;)
