Maybe you should have found somewhere better to stand then ;)

We were just in the opposite seat to Dimitris. Third row but in Mike's side. All our sector was a party, everybody was dancing and singing. We had a lot of fun with some american guys in the second row.

I like both experiences (GA and seating) but if I'm not going to be in front row I will allways prefer a decent seat.

A BIG THANKS to the Ten Club for the seating. We had the best seats in Manchester and in London. We hope they keep this chance for 2010.

I don't understand this bollocks about London being a "better" atmosphere.
From my place on the rail Mikes side it seemed like everyone in the crowd was absoloutely loving it.
The band sounded brilliant to me and Ed was clearly loving it with all his dancing round.

    Plus, Evenflow...
I don't even need to talk about Mikes solo behind the back.

Maybe it's all you folk who never leave London (it IS the centre of the universe obviously) with your superiority complexes as usual ahahaha
    :P
    Just teasing.

London was also awesome (oh Rats - how that funky bass intro never ceases to get me grooving) but this Manc gig was fuckin immense and in my opinion a better night than O2 simply due to setlist and my personal enjoyment from being up on the rail.

So good to see the guys back in the UK!

the only reason the crowd wasn't totally bouncing during Evenflow - one reason only - everyone was too busy singing their hearts out - even I can't bounce and sing from the bottom of my soul at the same time, well I say sing *ahem* luckily everyone else drowned me out

it did look packed though right at the front - when the camera pans back you can see everyone else is off their feet apart from the solo when everyone was just in awe!

the blues (and whiplash) have finally gone and am now trying to work out how/when/where for the next time

It seems from reading around that Mike side was a lot more settled than Stone side. For a start, you didn't have that fucknuckle of a kid with the mohawk constantly crowdsurfing only to be let back in each time to kick people's (ie me) heads everytime as he got pulled over the other side of the barrier. If we had the space to move, I reckon my area definitely would've reached up, grabbed him, and roughed him up a bit for being such a twat.

Couldn't feel the atmosphere. That implies I was able to breathe.

  • My first PJ gig...finally! It was brilliant and I'm looking forward to my next one...whenever that may be, not many good bands come to SW Germany. Anyway, it made for a special birthday being back home in England AND seeing PJ.
Setlist was surprising, opening with the understated and brilliant Long Road, Even Flow was awesome with Mike's behind the back solo and Black was beautiful.
Bought the sticker pack and tried to get the Ltd Manchester stick figure t-shirt in xxl but was sold out. Does anyone have one they're prepared to let go? Please?

have to say i was on mike's side and there was no crowdsurfing that i seen, behind me the crowd seemed kinda quiet there wasnt much jumping about or anything.. there were a few guys pushing through for a better view towards the last few songs  which annoyed me a little as they really pushed and shoved their way through but otherwise i was so busy jumping on the spot  (i stepped on a girl's foot behind me a few times by accident, sorry!!!!) and singing .. erm.. well "trying" to sing?!! a few guys standing around me probs thought i was looped esp at the start when the long road started up and i was practically roaring out the lyrics  !
  • My husband and I ended our honeymoon with this gig. Absolutely amazing.

I have to agree, Manchester was amazing, I don't get all the negativity.

Me either, I had an amazing night. We were in the middle of middle (if you catch ma twix) of standing we had loads of room, everyone around us was singing, dancing/pogo-ing, we a shuffled around so that a girl who was shorter than us could see better, we could hear everything. During Black we all had our arms around each other singing and swaying, absorbing the moment and other peeps were doing the same. Maybe it was because I was with three ace people watching an amazing band, but we had an immense night.
Maybe the problems with the sound meant some people couldn't get into it in the first half, dunno, but my mate reckoned the MEN can be a funny venue.
Two of my friends who were with me in manchester went to the O2 and said granted it was also an amazing night, they said they thought it was probably a bit better, they preferred the set list and people did seem more into it, but that it took nothing away from Manchester.
O.M.G...who said that the show wasnt great and i had good time..but between 4 show for sure u can compare them...

The Manchester show was good... Last Exit was a welcome surprise (mainly because audiodave wanted to see it like no one's business and seeing his face when it kicked in was worth the ticket price alone :D ) and the set on the whole was brilliant! :D

The only negative thing I will say about Manchester is that, to me at least, the crowd seemed really hostile. People (mainly GA, I have to admit) were rude, forceful and determined to get down the front regardless of who they trod on. I've seen PJ at festivals and their own shows and this was by far my least favourite crowd. I have to say that it did put a bit of a damper on the evening for me.
exactly..and 1 of 5 never stand up of his chair..i was 10c seated people dont even clap their hands..and in black and alive no passion at all..after 7 shows i see tthis was the worst crowd i ever see in a rock concert,,and if u compare it with the next day one?O.M.G...London was so amazing!!!!!!

    Okay....you're talking bollocks.

I was sat about two seats away from you, and I know because you were hanging that flag off the railings in front. Everyone around you was into it so you must have had your eyes shut or something!!
for sure i can use this type of words too,but im not couse i have problem to put my level down..u have to respect someone opinion who see 4 shows in the row..Manchester show was the worst in sound and crowd passion..i had great time but i can compare...and if u see me with my flag so u know if i had good time..and enjoy the show

Even on reflection Manchester was the show for me

it's been a fortnight now and it's still in my memory as the best I have seen

struggling to understand the nonsense in here about the crowd. Was A1 to me where I was. Barrier between jeff and ed
  • Listening to the Manchester boot as i type this (Not For You) and it sounds amazing. All 6 so far to surface sound really, really good. Definitely better overall than the 2007 audience recordings.

Other than Babs' Smile request and her getting the harmonica, my other big distinct memory is that fucking idiotic kid with the mohawk. Glad you didn't have any pieces of shit like him coming towards your way.

I don't understand the people that say there was no crowd participation either-from where I was standing the crowd were in great voice. They lead the "dooh dooh's" in Black at the end of the song, they didn't re-create that as well at the O2, the floor was heaving too. Imo of course ;)

Each to their own, I had the exact opposite experience

The crowd around me were great in the 10c seats block 115.

sat in between 2 american couples and everyone was on their feet having a blast...the only people I saw sat down was a couple of pregant ladies in the rows behind and a small child with ear protectors on who fell asleep (he was only about 4-5 years old though :) )

Just got home and I'm exhausted but too buzzed for sleep, that was amazing, I didn't think they would top the 2000 gig at this venue but boy did they ever.

A fantastic setilst, it was great to hear a couple of the new tracks live and I am even more excited to get my hands on Backspacer now. I really hope there is a bootleg release for this show as I would love to experience it again.

Thank you Pearl Jam and please come back soon.

Yeah, he was a dick, so were his friends.

Still a great gig though, on reflection. I wasn't bothered by the crowd then, I've seen a lot worse, so I was just enjoying a great set, with good friends and good people around me who looked out for each other. As time passes I appreciate it even more.

Great setlist. Wish I could have been there for this one.
  • Travelled over from ireland for this gig with two friends and we are still tallking about it to this day. we have all seen the band before at home but there was something special about this night, thanks to the amazing setlist, great seats and the people we met after the gig this was one night we won't forget in a hurry.
  • Only just been able to add to this as I went to the gig on my first day of leave and been catching up at home and work since getting back!
What a night, I don't remember going to a concert and still buzzing so much for so long after.
It's been fun reading about all these poor people saying they're getting too old for the pit then reading they're in their mid/late 30s! This was my first pit for years but at 42 I was glad to return to my foolish youth.
Many people have mentioned those GA guys that caused them problems; why didn't the MEN arena staff set up a 2nd barrier behind the 10c crowd, then we could have kept ourselves fresh and backache free by being able to stroll knowing our view was safe. It would have kept the dicks out. Though it wouldn't have kept out some of the smell; come on guys (the minority thank God!) if you're going to a hot concert with a view to jumping around TAKE A SHOWER BEFORE YOU GO!!!!!.
Almost impossible to pick favourite tracks but I guess Present Tense, Given to Fly, Leash, Indifference and, even, The Fixer would be there if I was forced.
I also loved the odd thing that went wrong, eg the mini fires, starting the wrong song and the best for me was Jeff's bum note when he took over guitar. He looked up at Matt and gave him a knowing laugh. This summed up the night for me because, and I know some others have disagreed here but, all the band seemed to be having a great time and that rubbed off on the crowd which circled back to them etc etc.
It'd rate right at the top for me. I'd say for a visual feast a late 80s Rush concert and maybe the 90s Pink Floyd gigs were my fav's. For an incredible vocal performance maybe Chris Cornell's last solo tour. For entertainment it's got to be last year's Foo Fighters. For a "cool" atmosphere then nothing beats Massive Attack at Westonbirt Arboretum. But as an all round old fashioned rock concert THIS WAS THE BEST.
I went alone, as my fellow ticket holding mate was ill, so thanks to a great crowd for making me feel like I was with friends. ;)

I completely agree with the 'shower first' comment . Fortunately there was only one smelly girl near me and she was nice, so it's (almost) forgiven ;). Everybody was nice, apart from a couple of groups who came to riot. But they couldn't spoil it 8-). What a band!

  • Oh no... you see, now I'm feeling like I'm missing out on something because I didn't have any smelly people around me !!! ;) Although, afterwards when we were all trying to file out of the Arena with everyone crammed together it was definitely a bit stinky then !!

When I left the MEN that night I looked like I'd been in the shower!! I have never been so hot in any gig... ever!!!!
