What the heck?? Is this like a Gorge kinda place?? It's out in the middle of........nothing? Does the concert venue have a website? :?
Not quite the scenery of the Gorge, but it is an amphitheater, kinda looks like Alpine Valley does to me, picture wise at least.
It's in the middle of Vantucky Washington. Not much around there but farms, casinos, strip malls and freeway.
Woa. Totally wasn't paying attention to this at all - LOL!! Thought it was downtown Portland kinda dealie. Interesting.
So if we had it nearby and got a shuttle it would drop us at the little dot in the middle..
That's why this pre-party could potentially be an epic disaster. I know 0 people that want to hang out in Vancouver before the show.
Don't know if a tailgaiting party would be allowed here or not. That is probably your best bet. Either that or having the Wishlist Afterparty or something.

I can't imagine the shuttle thing working out because of the traffic. Making trips from some bar in Vancouver to the venue in venue traffic would make for a very long wait between shuttles and most likely a frusterated shuttle driver. Things would of been a 1000 times easlier if they played the Rose Garden. Also it sounds like Clark County Amp. allows no tailgating, so thats not much of an option.
I'm thinking about flying into Seattle because the airfare is much better and driving the rental car down to Portland. How long of a drive is it from Seattle to Portland realistically? Trying to book tickets tonight most likely. Thanks!
I won't change direction, and I won't change my mind - E.V.

About 2 hours from Seattle to the Venue. 2 1/2 hours to downtown Portland.

As long as Paul Allen owns it I don't think that will happen again.
So what if we have a long wait getting there, pretty sure we all have reserved seats.
We just returned from Outsidelands ( via Portland).
The venue is right off I-5, I would say it is about 20 minutes from Portland- but hours from Seattle- grueling hours that involve 18-wheelers and Tacoma.
( I also took the shuttle from Outsidelands and didn't get back to our hotel till 1am- most of that time was standing in line-)
You must be the change you want to see in the world

What does that mean, as long as Paul Allen owns it you don't think it would happen? Does Pearl Jam have a beef with Paul Allen? HE is a civic hero up here in the Seattle area. Matt Cameron has raised the 12th man flag at Seahawks games. Pearl Jam is in EMP. :?

Way back at the start of this thread anotherclone mentioned Jollies. Did anybody look into that further as a venue? From this hubble map, it's the building with the paved parking lot just to the right of the freeway off/on ramps. It would take about 5 minutes to walk from there. Plus if they let you stay parked there, when leaving you are on the opposite side of the freeway and can take back roads to the next freeway onramps and you don't have to sit in the horrible traffic as long.
There is only one bar/restaurant near the amphitheater. It isn't classy or anything even close to it, but it might make it easy to NOT have to battle traffic beforehand. It's called "Jollies". This would be an option if you want to keep it close to the venue. Otherwise, Portland has so many options, it would just depend which part of the city would work for everyone. Anyway, here's the info for Jollies. It's about a 1/2 mile from the venue. I don't even think it has a website. But it has food and drinks and it's pretty big.

If this party needs a good cause - donate the money to my brother's ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) team...
The ALS Association is conducting a walk in Vancouver, WA the same day as the PJ show up there...My brother has ALS and was the biggest generator of money last year in the country for the association.
If you're interested I can give you more details...
Makes much more sense to live in the present tense!
I started a new job on Monday and have been MIA for a day or two otherwise I would have been better at replying to comments or questions. Sorry 'bout that!
I do live about 10 minutes from the venue it is basically surrounded by farmland and bordered by I-5. Also on site is our county fair grounds, so you get the idea. They are pretty strict at the venue about tailgating. They have rent-a-cops that drive around in golf carts and will bust you or write a ticket if they feel like it. If you keep any tailgating low-key and hide your beverages in one way or another, you probably won't have a problem. Recently we tailgated at a concert and weren't bothered, but some really loud jackasses near us were totally busted. Sweet karma.
There is a public transit park-and-ride that is located at I-5 about 5-10 minutes from the venue. On concert days, they run the busses non-stop beginning at about 5pm to and from the venue for something like $5 round trip. And same thing leaving after the concert. It's a pretty sweet set up. Otherwise, if we organized it, folks maybe could carpool from one central location. This way tailgating would be easier if you chose to go that route. If you have 4 or more people in your car, you get somewhat special parking, but it is first come, first served and you have to go to the venue site to print out the Yes Parking pass. Ask me if you have questions on this.
About the pre-party stuff, Billygans is a bit nicer than Jollies, but Jollies is a bit more convenient to the venue. If you were to park and walk from Jollies, I'm not sure if they'd allow the parking situation, but it would be about a 15-20 minute walk from there. That map is kind of decieving. Both places have full menus and full bars.
I'm all for prefunctioning in Portland, but where? We have a TON of better options in Portland but I'm concerned that the choices might get overwhelming considering our timeframe. It's only 3 weeks away! Lord knows, I don't want to make everyone feel like they have to go to Vancouver if they don't want to. I live here. I know how boring it is. If it sucks, everyone will complain about a terrible time. Who needs that? I agree if we do Portland, we need to do it earlier in the day. Traffic could be a bitch getting to the venue so you need to allow for that.
Consider what might be possible if we chose Billygans. People could either drive themselves or carpool (using "yes parking" of 4 or more passengers) to the venue in about 5-10 minutes if traffic was moving. If traffic is nasty, you can basically add 30 minutes to that. Or drive 2 minutes to the park and ride and catch the bus.
I think they open the gates to park 2 hours before the show. You should be mindful of this regardless of where we prefunction. Especially if you're using that "yes" parking pass for 4+ people. That is first come first served.

Well in 2000 Eddie ripped Allen for being part owner of Ticketmaster and then dedicated Soon Forget to him. Just seems like this may be related to why they haven't played there since. Just my own little conspiracy theory though.
FINALLY booked my plane tickets today. I'm going to fly into Seattle on Thursday, stay the night there, spend Fri - Sun in Portland, and then head back to Seattle and fly out on Tuesday. I can't wait!

Well in 2000 Eddie ripped Allen for being part owner of Ticketmaster and then dedicated Soon Forget to him. Just seems like this may be related to why they haven't played there since. Just my own little conspiracy theory though.
It has never stopped the band members from going to Seahawks games. Or, donating stuff to EMP. I think sometimes we take too literal things Ed says in concert. Trust me, in Seattle, Paul Allen is a civic hero for saving the Seahawks. Matt Cameron has even raised our 12th man Flag before a game a year or two ago. I would bet that there is no boycott by Pearl Jam of anything Paul Allen related. Besides that one (probably drunken) comment 9 years ago on stage, I am not aware of any other actions the band has waged against Paul Allen.
