If this song was sang by some no name loser, none of you fanbois would be even slightly interested. With all seriousness, it is really not a strong song. The only reason why it is good is because it is sang by Eddie Vedder.
I'm sorry but somebody had to say it.

Oh i said it, and i was CRUCIFIED for voicing my opinion
But hold on... Speed of Sound is not a punkish song, is it??? (Ps: I'm just messing with you in good fun.)
Wow....this song is amazing. They are 3 for 3 so far with Got Some, The Fixer, and then this amazing piece of music. I can't wait to hear the whole band on this.

this song just keeps getting better with each listen. i can really see it soaring during those two instrumental parts (after the 'this night has been a long one..') with the whole band.
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam

No, not really. I'm also a big fan of Lloyd Cole, and I was listening to this song I was thinking about how much it reminds me of Lloyd's work. That's a good thing in my book.
All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.

Yes, big time nail-on-the-head...listened to it the first few times at work, but tonight (maybe my 5th or 6th listen) and it really is an amazing piece of music. Who knows, its even possible that we may end up loving the demo version more than the album, version (but hopefully not!). This seems to be the theme of this album's tracks so far, which is some thing I really love....you don't necessarily have to LOVE the hell out of a certain track the FIRST time you hear it (like your typical NickelCrack pop song). But there is something to be said for those tracks that absolutely blossom on you after hearing them 4 or 5 times. Bravo, Pearl Jam. Can't wait for late September!

can someone post it please? where do you find the pieces to this stupid puzzle. don't you guys love how pearl jam still treats us like it's 1994 and we're all still 15 years old? well, except when it comes to long albums and ticket prices;) i still love em, pearl jam, or well, pearl jam inc.
Relax man they are giving us a free download of a (demo) song off the new album and trying to make it an interesting way of unlocking it. I for one am greatful. It was a nice surprise to see this this morning.
