I just heard it this morning- I've already listened to it about 4 times! Gorgeous!!
I hate to admit this, but after hearing "The Fixer" and "Got Some", I was a little worried. "Speed of Sound" restores my faith that this could, in fact, be a great album.
If that's how you feel then wait'll you hear the End
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”
I mean it. I've been around listening since 1991. I'm sure the minor-pentatonic junkies and crash-bang-wallop loving Beavis and Buttheads of this world will be disappointed, but this is exactly up my street, musically speaking.
I really, and I mean really getting excited about this album. With what I heard - all the above mentioned songs - I think this album is going to be amazing. And these aren't even the songs that stood out in the two reviews I read. One was mentioning a song with strings - Just Breathe - and the other review wrote that Among the Waves was "pushing things forward".
I'm really digging this...
And these lyrics are the best, imo, what they have done in years. Anybody has a take what he means by the Speed of Sound? Doe she mean love, depression, alcohol, music... And do others also think that the song Supersonic and Speeds of Sound may be interlinked with one another?

According to the review this song has a paino, not strings... But who knows...
well hopefully it's a very soft, somber piano because I don't need Boom fucking up a great song
lmfao

Same here! I don't know if you've heard Unthought Known or The End yet, but if you haven't they should definitely be up your alley.

So does anyone have a copy of The End on Megaupload (or others) that could be provided?
If it's "better" than Speed of Sound, that is going to be quite impressive!!
dont get your hopes up
Hahahaha!
For the link or for the song being better?
personally i like this one better, but after hearing The End was the greatest thing ever written over and over, the boot wasn't that amazing to me. the way he sings it is weird.

I don't think its better than Speed of Sound. I really like the chorus but the rest is kind of boring. Only the album version will tell. It's not a bad song. Just not as good as Speed of Sound IMO.
The End is kind of along the lines of Thumbing my Way or something from Into the Wild.
After 1 listen, it didn't do much for me. After 5 listens, I'm hooked. This is just a beautiful song. I haven't studied the lyrics yet, but what I'm getting is pretty incredible. The music is haunting. I love the ebow and Ed's background vox. This is definitely one of the better PJ ballads I've ever heard.
I really don't think the band needs to tinker with this one too much. Maybe add a little depth with some bass. The German article mentioned piano in this one, that could be nice too. Just don't give it the Gone treatment!
I posted similar thoughts earlier and I agree with you completely. I mentioned some subtle bass as well. And the piano you mentioned could add a nice element. It just seems like such a delicate song where less is more!
I think it rambles a little too much and some of the lyrics are a bit clunky. It's the demo version though so hopefully some of that gets ironed out (see "Light Years").
So this life is sacrifice...

Speed of Sound does sound like something off into the wild soundtrack and that is not a good thing. Pearl Jam is better than anything on the into the wild soundtrack. Speed of Sound is mediocre it's nothing compared to other pearl jam acoustic songs like lowlight, elderly women behind a counter in a small town, off he goes, thumbing my way etc. I'm a huge fixer fan too by the way.

Well, the only versions out there are EV solo versions. I'm sure it will sound different and better on the album.

I don't think this would fit Into The Wild AT ALL. I don't know why people are saying this. Does every song that is accoustic and mellow have to be connected to Into the Wild? This song isn't folksy enough for into the wild.. It reminds me of a cross between Black and Fatal. If any album, it would fit on Binaural.

AT ALL? Come on. It has to fit a little.
Any song Ed records by himself, acoustically, slow and mellow is going to get compared to into the wild.. If black was a new song and he recorded it this way, people would be saying Into The Wild.
Personally, "Speed of Sound" is my favorite new track. I can't wait to hear the full band "Unthought Known" and "the End" is a really beautiful, haunting, melodic tune. As for "Got Some" and "the Fixer", they've impressed me the least. I think they are both ok PJ tunes, still great compared to the other music that's out there, just not earth shattering. For me anyway...

The folky fingerpickin' and double-tracked vocals definitely give the feel of an Into The Wild song. You're right when you say any slow, acoustic Eddie solo song is going to get compared to Into The Wild....because it should. I disagree with the Black comparison. That's just kinda lumping slow songs all together. Black is great but it's really just a simple rock ballad whereas Speed of Sound is like a folk song.
