I like the "Speed of Sound" demo we received today. But I have a fear that this could turn into "Gone". When "Gone" was released on the 2005 X-mas single, before "Avacodo", I really liked the stripped down-just Eddie on guitar version. The "Gone" version on "Avacodo" just misses for me. It's almost like by giving each of the members a role, they cluttered up a perfectly good, simple song. Sometimes you may not need to use all 5 members! I think the beauty in these two songs is their simplicity. How can you add drums to "Speed of Sound"? I don't think the demo needs a whole lot of adusting. Maybe some subtle bass.
Excellent post. Great point.

So I just streamed it and I gotta say that while it's MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than either The Fixer or Got Some...it still seems like a ITW:2 album. Not that it's bad!!!!
I actually prefer PJ acoustic stuff, but the simple 3 chord finger picking is defined by ITW.
The start is a little slow but the middle and the end are NICE!
Could do with out the "other Ed"-one second delay lyrics...but whatever!

well we only have one ed in real life... so maybe youll enjoy it more live
definitely very ITW though... still holding any major opinions til i see how everything fits into the context of the album... could be that it needs to be just how it is to keep the flow going
A-fucking-mazing! After the second listen I was hooked. It would be good if it appeared like this on the album. That being said...I can't wait to hear what the guy's added to it.
Backspacer is gonna be phenomenal!
"Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"
The more I hear from Backspacer the more i am sure that this album will be awesome, fantastic, one of a kind!
I listened to Speed of sound about 15 times and i love this song. Cannot wait to hear it in August!!
By the way i am extremely curious for the setlist!?

i agree this is a beautiful song and an upgrade from the Fixer, IMO, but this should have been on ITW...once again i like it dont get me wrong but nothing that makes me anymore excited about this album
After 1 listen, it didn't do much for me. After 5 listens, I'm hooked. This is just a beautiful song. I haven't studied the lyrics yet, but what I'm getting is pretty incredible. The music is haunting. I love the ebow and Ed's background vox. This is definitely one of the better PJ ballads I've ever heard.
I really don't think the band needs to tinker with this one too much. Maybe add a little depth with some bass. The German article mentioned piano in this one, that could be nice too. Just don't give it the Gone treatment!

my guess is it's gonna have strings on it. That's why I think this demo recording was made available.
is it 9/20/09 yet???? can't wait to hear the final version of this along with the rest of the record!
+1...exactly!!!!!!!!!!!
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
I just heard it this morning- I've already listened to it about 4 times! Gorgeous!!
I hate to admit this, but after hearing "The Fixer" and "Got Some", I was a little worried. "Speed of Sound" restores my faith that this could, in fact, be a great album.

So Fixer and Got Some weren't depressing enough for you.

Funny I read this as it went past this part. Definitely thought that as I was watching Singles in HD over the weekend.
im sure im in the way minority on this one..haha
Thanks. I think there is a mistake (at least as I hear it).
I think "Waiting on a sun that just done come" is actually "Waiting on a sun that just DON'T come"
Anyone else hear the same?

Right now it sounds like a bland ITW b-side without anything that hooks me. Not a bad song, but not anything special.
Thanks
nothing that hooks you?
have you heard the words?
I don't see it as an Into the Wild song at all.. "The End" sounds like an Into The Wild song.
Speed of Sound reminds me of a cross between Black and Fatal. Very Binauralish. Not Into The Wild.
I hate to admit this, but after hearing "The Fixer" and "Got Some", I was a little worried. "Speed of Sound" restores my faith that this could, in fact, be a great album.
