    don't compete; coexist

what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama

when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'

    Let's summarize...
Here are the things God has blessed America with:
    Freedom of Speech
    Baseball
    Jazz
    Obama
The men who stormed Normandy Beach
    The 4th of July
    Hot dogs
    New York City
    ...
Those are things Man has created for us. How about we take a little credit for things like Hot Dogs and Baseball and The Constituton?
The thing is, we don't corner the market on God's Blessings. God cares about all men and women. We, as Americans, can take credit for Basketball and Shelby Mustangs.
    That's all.

then why is it sung? i'm genuinely curious as to why we have to acknowledge our country twice in one game

first of all its not sung. god bless america song is not sung at every game. probably only during sunday night baseball, or holidays, or nationally televised games. and even then its no guarantee nowadays

second of all, why are you (and others) so bent out of shape about it?

acknowledging our country TWICE in one game??!!?!? can you believe the nerve with these pricks
correction, its sung at every game i have been to at busch stadium. and thats about 25 games a year i go to.

This had nothing to do with God. Personally Im agnostic. But im glad it got someone's eye and there was nice positive discussion where the focus was on whats good with this country. We all know the bad.

is "god bless america" a request of god to bless the us or is it a command?

either way i think it is a little pretentious to ask or command a supreme being to do anything. many of the religious folks on here might make a reference to god's plan. if we ask him/her or command them to bestow blessings on us that we otherwise would not have, doesn't that mess up the plan? and isn't that very selfish of us as americans?

    i dunno, just my thoughts.

by the way, why are we sill singing god bless america at baseball games? i can understand shortly after 9/11, but come on, that was nearly 8 years ago.

what i never understood about the whole 'god had your life planned out for you before you were conceived' stuff is wouldn't that mean it was god's plan for Eve to eat the apple? wouldn't that mean it was god's plan that Hitler killed a bunch of jews, homosexuals, immigrants and other demographics? wouldn't that mean it was god's plan that child rapists do what they do? a religious friend replied once "yeah, but how do you know by that 1 kid being molested it didn't save 5 other kids from being molested?" wtf??? why does god's plan have to entail ANY child molestation!?

i think there's something higher than ourselves separately but i don't think it's some white male with our lives planned out

Ditto this. No man with a beard either. But that's a whole other topic. Happy to start a debunk the bible thread any time. Id be all over that one.

What a bunch of utter bullshit. Witch hunts, slavery, yadda yadda. Like I said. It's about trying to be positive. I watched you people bitch and moan and groan and whine about George Bush and the U.S for 8 years now. And I watched the majority of you out there fighting for the CHANGE you can believe in. Sure the world's fucked up right now. Sure were all hurting. But fucking A. We have a mother fucking black president in Africa touring his ancestral home. Who'd have thunk it? So talk about how fucked up we are or what assholes we are. We are all of those. But look what we can do when we put our minds to it collectively. CHANGE. We did it without firing a bullet. We voted.

lets not forget America gave the world XXXXL shirts. ;)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I HATE 'God bless America.' I hate the saying, the slogan, the stickers, the song, etc etc etc. It's so cheap and tacky.

That said, I love baseball, Cedar Point, Hollywood blockbusters, and NCAA college football.

why don't we get rid of christmas while were at it

j relax i'm just curious....and as far as i know, it is sung at the 7th inning stretch at every home dodger game and i was just curious as to why? it just seems unnecessary....

I guess I'm not really understanding why so many are so devastated that it still happens

Sadly, it is sung/played at EVERY baseball game during the 7th inning stretch. Most peeps jump at the opportunity to go to the bathroom or the concession stands.

    Peace

it is not sung at every white sox or cubs game. its actually a fairly rare event.

I'm curious, are those who run to the bathroom, lynched with ketchup and given a pepsi bath upon their return as Cosmo would suggest?

That annoys me too. The 7th inning stretch is supposed to be a fun little break in the action, not some solemn misty eyed flag-wavin bullshit. God, I hate that song.

how sad. if something like this really bothers you this much then you have some personal issues that should be looked at.

really, how often do you, or any of you so bent up about this song, show some pride to the country that has given you so much? my guess is never. yet you feel its practically a crime to sing some flag wavin bullshit-like song during baseball game.

good thing is, you all have choices. no one is forcing you to go to a baseball game and no one is forcing you to stand and sing along

despite the bullshit claim that you will be beaten with undercooked hotdogs if you choose not to
