:? Americas National pastime Americas National Anthem. OMG how weird
God Bless America is not the national anthem. Are you sure you're a real American patriot?
I never said it was..
Are you serious? I said God Bless America is a weird interjection and you responded saying the national anthem being played at the national pastime is not a weird interjection. What else could you be saying?
anyway, I've got to say I'm with Jlew on the singing of God Bless America...IMO it's an annoying song, but who cares if it's sung at the 7th inning stretch...I really don't see the issue...
Yes, you being bothered by me being annoyed is endlessly more rational than me being annoyed in the first place.
people usually have valid reasons for being annoyed. when they dont, I feel sad for them, not bothered.
I've given you my reasons. Do you love it when PJ plays your least fav song, or do you kinda wish they'd played something else? I was unaware that nobody's reasons for their preferences are valid unless jlew approves them.

even you admit your reasons "are not great". and I think many agree with me that its sad this is even being discussed.

I said they may not be considered great reasons, but they're valid reasons. Many also agree with me that it's a stupid and pointless interjection.
And I note that you didn't answer the question about hearing a shitty song in concert and whether you wished you'd heard something else.
And I note that you didn't answer the question about hearing a shitty song in concert and whether you wished you'd heard something else.
I dont understand what this has to do with the issue at hand.
Simply that there is absolutely nothing irrational about having a preference about what is done at a given event. A shit song in concert is a bummer and can throw off the momentum of the concert, and a shit cheap emotional ploy at a baseball game can throw off the carefree atmosphere of being at the ballpark. And while it may not have that effect for you, that doesn't mean it's "sad" that it annoys me. I may not be bothered by the song you don't like hearing, but that doesn't mean that you're "sad" for wishing you'd heard another tune instead.
I'd have less of a problem if they played 'Proud to be an American' for your needed your patriotic fix, because at least it's lame and cheesy in a fun way that is in keeping with the spirit of a baseball game.

i asked why it is being played during the 7th inning? i never said i was annoyed or upset...that was your inference...i just noticed this year at home dodger games they play "god bless america" during the 7th inning and i was curious as to why....if you don't know, say so...as one of the reasons posted in this thread is our right to question and speak our minds...that's all i'm doing

What about all those people who would rather have gone to the movies? They might be offended by this. Furthermore, the whole "one, two, three, strikes you're out" thing might really piss off those who prefer football. Or the folks from out of town who don't want to "root, root, root for the home team"... Be careful.
Well I would tell those football fans go see a football game it's much more expensive. As far as the home team, I'm hardly ever at Fenway Park anymore however here at Camden Yards and Nationals Stadium it's 75% Red Sox fans. I just interject *root, root, root for the RED SOX and the song becomes mine.
Either place it feels like my home team.

far be it from me to shut you up, thats not what I'm suggesting. as to why they play the song, you're right, I don't know. I also don't care, but I made some safe assumptions as to why..baseball is our national pastime and after 9/11 someone decided to throw in a little extra patriotism at a game. for no obvious or known reasons, it stayed at some ballparks as part of the 7th inning stretch routine.
what I'm not understanding is why ask why? does it bother you?

jeff seriously relax...i'm not byrnzie or roland...i would never want you to shut up and i think you know that
9/11 was 8 years ago and starting this season i noticed gba being sung...i was simply wondering why now...i understood it in 02 especially in new york
and frankly, if we are gonna do this, we should sing "this land is your land"...much better song imo
I'd have less of a problem if they played 'Proud to be an American' for your needed your patriotic fix, because at least it's lame and cheesy in a fun way that is in keeping with the spirit of a baseball game.
No way, eh.....that song makes me want to take a Phillips-head screwdriver to my ear drums.....bloody awful song.....it's lame, cheesy and was a quick, cheap, emotional knee-jerk attempt at making a money train.

Exactly how I feel about God Bless America, but at least Proud to be an American is kinda goofy and upbeat. It's too silly to take itself seriously. God Bless America is so self-important and saccharine it makes me want to... well, take a Phillips-head screwdriver to my ear
I'll be curious to see if jlew comes round to tell you you're sad for being annoyed by a silly little song.

ya know, to the utter shame of my mother no doubt ....i have never been a fan of 'god bless america'...or 'in god we trust' on our currency, etc....at least not since i was a little girl. it may sound PC, or overly sensitive...but i just find such language exclusionary. no, i am not going to lose any sleep over it, but yea....if there was a vote to remove that phrasing from our currency, i'd be for it. yea, yea, yea...the majority of americans believe in god. so what? we are supposed to be a nation based on freedom of religion - including the right to not believe....and also the seperation of church and state. and yea, i know the founding fathers did use a lot of 'god' back in the day....but i still don't believe they'd necessarily support that phrase on our currency, nor push for 'god bless america' be sung at sporting events. just my 2 cents.

I hear ya, but why ask why. to my knowledge, MLB has never made an official statement as to why the song is still being sung. it appears that the stadiums themselves choose what happens during the 7th inning stretch. I go to shitload of baseball games and I rarely here it anymore. but others swear its played all the time. so who knows.
I just find it really funny that some people take offense to it and even better think that you'd be lynched for not partaking.

Really? Because earlier you were saying I'm SAD for even being ANNOYED by it. Now it's just funny that people take offense? It's been played at every baseball game I've attended in the last few years.

I think the real answer is to play Tag Team's "Whoomp, There It Is"
I'm sure everybody will be equally annoyed

6/12/08 - Tampa, FL
8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
