by the way, why are we sill singing god bless america at baseball games? i can understand shortly after 9/11, but come on, that was nearly 8 years ago.
i've been wondering about this too....didn't we already do our force patriotism at the beginning of the game?
not that i'm opposed to the signing of our national anthem at the beginning of sporting events, but do we need to reinforce this again? :?

America is a great country and allows you people many wonderful things. it isn't the end of the fucking world if some stupid patriotic song is sung during a freaking baseball game, you know, America's pastime.
...
And you are supposed to stand, like it's the Nation Anthem.
You don't have to... but, if you don't... you can expect a half eaten hot dog or cup of Pepsi to rain down on you.
I'm a season ticket holder for the Chicago White Sox. I've been going, on average, to a game a week for the past 5 seasons.
this is the biggest exaggeration I've heard in quite some time. no one gives a flying fuck what you do during god bless america song. but I suppose I can only speak of what Chicagoans do.
...
Go to Dodgers Stadium... in the Blue Section or the bleachers.
And yeah... most people DO stand like they do for the National Anthem, don't they? And I'm going to go out on a limb here and venture to guess thet you do, too.
Well, prove me wrong... stop standing for the singing of 'God Bless America' and remain sitting from now on and see if it is a great exaggeration on my part.

is "god bless america" a request of god to bless the us or is it a command?
either way i think it is a little pretentious to ask or command a supreme being to do anything. many of the religious folks on here might make a reference to god's plan. if we ask him/her or command them to bestow blessings on us that we otherwise would not have, doesn't that mess up the plan? and isn't that very selfish of us as americans?
i dunno, just my thoughts.

Maybe after 9/11 and shortly thereafter but now I would hardly think so. For instance back in 2002 some older woman tried cutting me off because I had another country's flag in my truck. I told her to F off cause she had no idea why I had this flag in my car. At the time I was disgusted with the plan to invade Iraq so no American flag on or in my truck (my silent form of protest). It was only till 2005 when it was coming to light that our invasion/occupation was made under lies as to why we were there did I place a flag in my truck.
A couple weeks ago in DC at a Nationals game against the Sox I didn't stand during GBA or remove my hat and NOT a soul messed with me. Had I done that shortly after 9/11 that might have been a different story. We sort of go with the crowd in the name of Patriotism or peered pressure not me, NOT me not till I see the full picture.

That kind of my point... "We sort of go with the crowd in the name of Patriotism or peered pressure..."
Most of us do. I stand during, 'God Bless America' mostly because I sit in the cheap seats at Dodgers or Angels Stadiums and have seen some of these assholes that do harrass people and I don't really want to get harrassed at a ball game. They don't do it to everyone who's sitting or at every game... I'm just saying, it does happen.
So, yeah... I fold and go with the peer pressure.

which, like I said, its a ridiculous exaggeration.
then why is it sung? i'm genuinely curious as to why we have to acknowledge our country twice in one game
first of all its not sung. god bless america song is not sung at every game. probably only during sunday night baseball, or holidays, or nationally televised games. and even then its no guarantee nowadays
second of all, why are you (and others) so bent out of shape about it?
acknowledging our country TWICE in one game??!!?!? can you believe the nerve with these pricks

Here are the things God has blessed America with:
Freedom of Speech
Baseball
Jazz
Obama
The men who stormed Normandy Beach
The 4th of July
Hot dogs
New York City
...
Those are things Man has created for us. How about we take a little credit for things like Hot Dogs and Baseball and The Constituton?
The thing is, we don't corner the market on God's Blessings. God cares about all men and women. We, as Americans, can take credit for Basketball and Shelby Mustangs.
