This emotional plea comes up barren when faced with the facts that today in the United States the wealthy are taxed less than most other industrialized countries, and less than even the United States itself historically since it became an economic power post WWII.

why should the wealthy be taxed as much as other nations? just because other nations do it, doesnt make them right and us wrong.

"Enough is enough" lends itself to the sentiment that your not happy with the current situation and you don't want things to get worse. You seem to be referring to the American tax policy as wrong, not right.

But its perfectly reasonable to look at our own history, or beyond our borders to similar cultures with similar values for perspective.

what happens when 5% isn't enough to pay for this plan. should we just tack on another 5%? no no, maybe 15%. because thats what it will probably end up costing.

and its almost hilarious that some here think its selfish for OTHERS not to pay more in taxes. are those of you who want the rich to pay for everything going to donate more of your check to the IRS voluntarily? if not, why are you so selfish?

I think it's selfish for rich people to think they are more deserving of health care than poor people.

I'm a CPA too so I'm wondering about your statement "they have many options to commit tax evasion"....what options are you referring to? tax evasion being illegal and all....or did you mean tax avoidance?

And it is actually "qualified" dividends that get preferential tax rates not ordinary... ;)

But if you look at the most successful

I'm not really much into the "Robin Hood" theory (Nancy Pelosi - while her state of California continues to tank). Continue to take from the rich and give to the "poor." Some people really sit up and actually take notice with this particular "bill of goods." Any takers? If so - I really have a bridge I would like to sell ya.

not sure how you can get more fair then that. I honestly believe it will encourage people to work harder to make more money because they will be able to keep more. and the government will make more because all the loopholes will be closed. seems like a no brainer

Why because then they buy what they can afford and not live above their means?

no...because they currently pay no income tax so you would force them to pay a tax that our current system says they don't make enough to warrant paying
