((( The Stop Smoking Cigarettes Thread)))

edited August 2012 in All Encompassing Trip
Hi, a few of us AET posters are going to try and quit this Tuesday September 2nd. We are long time smokers and we have all tried multiple times. We think by supporting each other and posting daily it would make our experience easier and hopefully successful.

If any one would like to join us we would love the company! The last cigarette we will smoke will be 11:59 on Sept 1.

We are going to use some form of the patch, gum, etc. so that we hope will make it easier.

If you are not a smoker or aren't ready, any positive support you give will be highly appreciated.

The Tryers are

    Awesome! The more the merrier.

That would be 11:59 on your time. Or if you need a little more time. There is a 5 hour difference between my 11:59 and yours.

I'm in, even though I've kind of already started. I got really sick from the stomach flu on Sunday and I haven't smoked a butt since.

I quit smoking cold turkey on June 30th. Almost 2 full months...

Have been able to fight off temptation thus far. The ability to breath is a great reward!

    Good Luck everyone!!!

    Good luck you guys!!
    I quit October 27, 2007.

I read "Skinny Bitch" and on page 1 they say "Smoking is for losers."
For some reason that was all I needed to tell myself. Haven't smoked since, and I was a 10+ year smoker.

It wasn't by choice, lol. I figured it was as good as of a time than any. I couldn't keep anything down for 3 days and the though of a butt made me even more sick.

I just walked away from it. In the year since I have also started running and lost 80 pounds, which I would not have done were it not for the fact that I quit smoking.

No gum, no patches, no nothing. I know not everyone can do that but honestly the hardest thing about it is getting your mind around not smoking anymore. If you can do that, you're golden.

I'm going to go the cold turkey way I think.
I only picked it back up at the beginning of the year just after my marriage broke up. I quit 15 years ago by going cold turkey, so I'm going to try that again.

The first time I stopped smoking (and biting my nails at the same time) I went cold turkey too and that was for 14 years and for whatever reason I started up again 11 years ago. It's a lot tougher this time around so I need some assistance and support :)
I might do to, in the end :)

I'm going to give it a try though. And just see how far I get. If I feel in need of something then I'll reconsider :)

That's why it is called the Trying list. No pressure will be applied. For me just talking about it will help.

    Yep, me too :)

Last time I quit I'd found out I was pregnant so I stopped virtually overnight. That is most definitely not the case this time, so all help and support will be gratefully received :)

Good luck everyone. I'm lucky in that I'm one of the few that can take or leave the coffin nails. I smoke when I'm drinking and around my little brother (my supplier) but I stopped buying them years ago and haven't struggled with only smoking on occasions. Now the herb is a whole different tale...

That is why the word Cigarette is in the thread. Believe it or not there was some thought there. Not trying to influence anyone, just looking for a way to make it easier.

I smoked about a pack to pack and a half a day and had smoked for about 10yrs.

They have like three levels and I started with the middle one and turns out it was too much nicotine for me and my heart would start racing.

Alot of it for me was also just breaking a habit..like it was just automatic to smoke when I was driving, after I ate, etc.

I had never tried quitting before and I was very determined to quit..but I think I may be an exception b/c I didn't have a very hard time doing it and people are always surprised to hear me say that.

Doh! Just realised it says Cigarettes in the title. I smoke cigars, does that count? I hate cigarettes.

Awesome! I must say it will be more difficult for you Brits becuase smoking is way more prevelent these days over there than in NYC. I lived there for a year and I took it up from a pack to two while there.
