Hi everyone,

I figured folks may find this helpful for the upcoming MSG shows. Got a question about NYC? Post here! Are you a New Yorker? Please provide tips! I will periodically update the first post, scroll down to individual posts for more details. Just one thing: don't post here looking for tickets since there are plenty of those around.

Bars/craft beer:
- Cock & Bull: potentially good location for pre-party? (Suziemay comment: This is on 45th between 5th & 6th, so about a 15-20 minute walk to MSG)

Additional FAQ
Q: Are uber rates inflated in NYC?
A: uber's just reduced it's pricing by 15% actually. On major traffic days you'll get the "pricing surge" in the app. the minimum is either $6 or $7

Q: My wife and I are coming in for the day from Connecticut. We could take the train or drive in. Does anyone have a recommendation? We haven't been to the city very many times.
A: Take the train to Grand Central, then either walk, uber or subway to MSG. Avoid Times Square when walking. For subway, take the shuttle to Times Square (look for the grey S line) and then switch to the 1/2/3 subway line (red line).

Q: Is it feasible to park walking distance to MSG on May 2nd?
A1: The parking garages are expensive but if you're good with the prices and you get down early enough you'll be fine. They always have event pricing, which just means inflated.

You could also look around 10th ave, we have been lucky enough to find street parking there a few times. Just pay attention to the signs for where and what time you're allowed to park without paying the meters.

A2: http://nyc.bestparking.com/

A3: I've heard good things about the ParkWhiz app for you guys looking to drive in.

All I need is craft brew bars with hard to find anywhere selections and running routes (will probably subway up to Central Park after the shit show I encountered trying to run on the high line last time I was there in December on a 60 degree weekend day at the height of Christmas tourism season)! As a result I am a fan of the high line as a tourist attraction, but not as a running route! I think I'm all set on running routes. Please don't overlook my request for bars that have AMAZING beer selections! I need to do some quality carb loading for my runs!

The first time I was in NYC was around 1964. My folks had rented a car and we came to a cross street with a traffic light and all the other drivers were simply ignoring the lights and just speeding through the intersection whenever a gap opened up far enough to zip through it. Do they still do that?

Oh dear. No, but on a turn, they do look like they may run you over but they won't. Mostly. It's the cyclists you have to worry about. Especially the messengers.

I would have guessed the other way around- that cyclists are in danger. Interesting.

BTW, I'm told in that in Lima the ignore-the-traffic-lights thing still goes on!

If you're willing to take the time, start your day at McSorelys Tavern for a few lights and darks then head to The Peculiar Pub on Bleeker http://www.peculierpub.com/menu.pdf for a sample. It is way downtown, so you'll need to leave time to work your way up to The Garden (unless you're there on Saturday), but it will be well worth it. Not right next to subway, but if you plan it right, you can wander toward the subway and find a bite to eat somewhere or just uber/taxi it.

    2 things -

1). By start your day, I mean start. If you get there mid afternoon, McSorelys might be a wait. Feel free to order the cheese and crackers after a few brews.
    2). You're welcome

I think the High Line is overrated. I mean, by all means go see it if it's not inconvenient, but I wouldn't try and squeeze it into an already packed schedule. It's a park on an old elevated train line. Its more for the novelty. It's also always crowded because everyone has it on their list of must-sees.

I think it's more worthwhile to head to Brooklyn Bridge Park for a view of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline..

I'm sure someone else will tell you it's awesome and you should go see it!

Suziemay is very generous with her offer for NYC input.

    Some craft beer spots:
Blind Tiger Ale House (W Village)
Pony Bar (Midtown West and UES)
    Beer Authority (Times Sq)

I think Stout (near MSG) has craft beer (or you could go to Hooters nearby). And Paulaner Brewhouse (LES) is another good beer spot.

Are you seriously asking who's starting games that are gonna be played 3 months from now?

I figured the John Rocker comment made it quite clear that the entire post was nothing but pure nonsense.

The Highline is crowded during the middle of the day but best times are early in the morning or later in the day and it's a beautiful way to see the west side of Manhattan. I live a block from there and love walking it when it's not too busy.

EL177913, there's a place that just opened by me that isn't a classic "bar" per se but they've got a TON of rare beers in bottles and cans (but you can drink them in the place and about 8-10 beers on tap. It's like a hybrid bar/little retail store. I've gone a few times already and really enjoying it, called Milk & Hops.

    For beer connoissuers check out

    Brooklyn Brewery.
    LIC beer
    Finback Brewery
    Rockaway Brewing

If you are on Long Island check out Barrier Brewing in Oceanside.

Most pizza in the city is just "OK". May be good for the out of towners but it isn't the best. Travel outside into Brooklyn and the bronx for that.

    For beer connoissuers check out

    Brooklyn Brewery.
    LIC beer
    Finback Brewery
    Rockaway Brewing

If you are on Long Island check out Barrier Brewing in Oceanside.

Most pizza in the city is just "OK". May be good for the out of towners but it isn't the best. Travel outside into Brooklyn and the bronx for that.

in the city though 2 bros is pretty good. especially for the price.
