Before the Mariners game tonight, I went to the new MOTO Pizza location in Pioneer Square. They have one in the ballpark, but it’s more expensive inside. I got the Kiss’d, which is pepperoni, sausage and hot honey.

inside the ballpark, I was sent on a mission from my girlfriend to acquire one of the Washington Statr Ferry souvenir trays. So I got some crab fries. They gave me a very generous portion of crab. I topped it with lemon, old bay, and Tabasco. Delicious.

I thought of saving carcass and making broth for soup, but it didn't happen. I will make a turkey pot pie.

Every Thanksgiving I say I am going to make soup. Never do it.

Only once have I did the Thanksgiving save the carcass for broth thing.
I tell ya what, I had enough broth in the freezer it lasted for a years worth of soups. It was unreal how delicious it turned out. I actually went out and bought a giant stock pot.

Those must have been proper Jewish Delis.  Those are all a dying breed now.  We thankfully have one here in Long Beach called Lido Kosher Deli.  A recommended spot to eat if you are in the area.

Something else you don't see a lot of anymore is a deli making their own Roast beef.  The German deli I worked at always made their own.  It was good and it showed.

Why are these older places closing and why aren't more delis making these meats?

My guess is because real estate has become too expensive to maintain those kinds of businesses. The rents started making such quality unsustainable for independent/family businesses.

Tonight I made taco salad with homemade pico de gallo, guacamole, and Mexican rice. The black beans and corn were not homemade. These turned out awesome.

Not even proper Jewish delis. Just regular places that would have a roast turkey in the case. My local deli here in Westchester does it on the weekends, but they used to do it every day. I guess people prefer Boar's Head. They do roast a turkey breast for their hot bar during the week and serve sliced turkey breast that sits in some kind of broth with vegetables. Old school, delicious and the only place I would order from a hot bar.

Jewish delis are disappearing because of the shift in eating habits. While delicious, most of the food is incredibly unhealthy. We have two up here in Westchester, and one in Fairfield CT, but they are very mediocre and quite expensive. But they are surviving. I guess there are enough people that do not mind spending $50 a person for a traditional deli meal.

At least you have a spot!

We have a place called Farmer Joels that has been in business for over 50 years.  They do their fresh Turkey on occasion and I will get a turkey hero with that. They aren't Jewish either.

We used to have a Pastrami King in Merrick, that closed down sadly a few years back so all we have is Lido Deli that is pretty close to me now.

All the proper delis have been drying up too.  Like you said I guess not everyone has to eat like that every day now. I know I don't.

If you ever happen to be down the South Shore I'll treat u to Lidos!

    Talking deli's?

Today I woke up and decided I was going to thaw out my 3lbs of corned beef that was sitting in the freezer and put it in the slow cooker in a couple of days. Then I realized....Wait a second, I have a pressure cooker. I took the frozen piece of corned beef, placed it in the pressure cooker, and 90 minutes later it was piping hot and I served it with cabbage and red potatoes.

    Not a bad breakfast.

Use some of that to make your own corned beef hash.  I did that and man what a difference it is!

I had leftover ingredients from taco salad, so I pulled a Taco Bell. I used the same ingredients but served them in a different shape. I whipped up some quick ranchero sauce and made wet burritos. Topped em with cheese and put em under the broiler for a few minutes.
