Healthcare is the one place I've shifted a lot to the left than I was 10 years ago. I laughed at the idea of social healthcare before.
I don't know if Obamacare made it worse, or it's just naturally gotten worse, but privatized health insurance is just nuts how it works. The fact that my insurer can just decide to drop medications we've been on for years so they can save money, or decline procedures that our doctor deem necessary. The fact we never know what something is going to cost until after. I can ask what it will cost, but the answer is always "we won't know until we submit it to insurance and see what they decide to approve or not." It's just nuts. You'd never have a contractor remodel your house with the understanding he'll decide how much to charge you when he's done.
They do all this to save money, while making billions in profit. It needs to go to a non-profit platform so we can afford treatments and medication at a reasonable cost. I don't think anyone has come up with a reasonable solution to healthcare.

I don't doubt that for the equipment.
Every time I go to the dr office or hospital, I always look around and think "I wonder what that costs."
Most of it just seems like slightly modified office furniture, like their computer screen stands, are specially made for a doctor's office and probably cost way more than what they should.

But I just can't stand the insurance providers. And how the whole process is even legal is surprising. They have one rate for a cash or uninsured, then a higher rate for insured patients, that the insurance then "negotiates down" the rate to make you think you just saved thousands. When a large portion of the time the cash price is cheaper than your "negotiated" copay. It seems like it should be illegal. Post prices. Same prices for everyone. No hike-ups then fake discounts.
Denying a valid claim to save money should also be as much of insurance fraud as me faking an injury too.

My wife does medical transcription and writes letter after letter from doctors demanding treatment for their patients that have been denied coverage from their provider. I can't imagine having to spend part of my day explaining why a patient needs a test/treatment that some unknown desk jockey from an insurance company denied

The main reason I hear people not wanting to move to a system like Canada, are the reported wait times.

I was happy with my health insurance until about 15 years ago. The cost has just steadily risen over the last few decades, but it used to be affordable. According to Google AI summary, its reason an average of about 7.5% a year for the last 20 years. That’s unsustainable. Go back to what it was 20 years ago and it’s not nearly as big of a problem.
We did have it figured out at one point, until we let the cooperate greed take over and put profits over health.

In his book, Colin Powell mentioned (I do not remember exact verbiage) that often when he was given a task he thought not really meaningful, but his leadership in the military thought it was important he did it first. That way, he got it out of the way and it allowed him to work on what he wanted.

Similarly, with VoterID. The vast majority of the people, who congress works for, wants it. So do it, do it quickly, make it simple, and then move on to other more meaningful items. The lack of action has allowed it to remain a political talking point that the Dems do not win in the court of public opinion.

Everyone registered gets a ballot and you mail it in or drop it off. Then the signature is verified. The amount of energy and propaganda from the right about this is tiring.

still need to request absentee, but you can vote absentee in person during early voting. still required to prove yourself to vote, but id card or license is just two ways to prove it. utility bills and the like also work (or did , need to check that).

funny shit is they went to tablets for signatures and use a shitty throwaway fat tip stylus. no way to get exact match.
