Apparently these roadblocks aren’t a real thing. File it under “it hasn’t happened to me so it must not exist”.
Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer

Basically voting works just fine and up you are a dummy if you think otherwise.
I have read so many voter fraud takes that I agree it seems so minute if it does happen.

I wouldn't mind the ID/citizenship showing for voting just so I never have to hear about this being an issue ever again.
As long as they can get everyone who needs an ID one at no cost, with no hoops and the easiest of effort, I’m fine with it too.
In this day and age there are people struggling to get an ID but have the ability to go out and vote?

Call me living under a rock if that is a thing.
It’s not easy to go out and vote either. we should be making it as easy as possible for everybody who wants to do it,  not adding more hurdles that will make it difficult for people.
Between early voting, absentee ballots, multiple voting locations, and polls being open 12 hours, if you didn't vote previously it's because you didn't want to.
this is a very black and white way of looking at it. doesn't take into account if that save law passes, if you do not have a passport you can't vote. does not take into account the need for a birth certificate to get proper id. does not take into account that a married woman would have to get special documentation since their married name does not match their birth certificate, does not take into account the purposeful reduction in the amount of voting machines in the poor community forcing long lines and people having to potentially take off a full day of work. does not take into account trump trying to outlaw vote by mail.

voting should be free and easy for all citizens.

the problem is not with "voter fraud". it is with republicans deliberately trying to disenfranchise groups that vote democratic.
nobody is struggling to get a basic ID and who is willing and able to go out and vote.
I don't think you can say this with any level of certainty.

it's absolutely false. there are so many barriers for poor people obtaining one. it's absurd to claim nobody has this barrier. LOTS do.

Of all the else things, voting is by far the least important. Yet I never hear democrats talk about helping people that don’t have IDs to get IDs. Because if they solved that problem (if it is in fact a problem), then there’d be no reason to be against voter IDs. And we know they don’t want that.
They did try to get IDs for everyone.

You can't function as an adult without ID.
Without ID you can't legally drive, have insurance, have a checking account, get a loan, rent an apartment, get a credit card, get utilities....
Where are all these people who struggle to do any of this? You can't live an adult life without basic ID.
Sure, maybe some homeless guy living under the pier gets by without it.....but I probably don't see him lining up at the polls either.

So, how are the approximately 21M Americans without state or government ID functioning in the country? All living under overpasses? Riding the bus? Collecting unemployment?
I don't think that is accurate. I see estimates as low as 2-7 million that don't have any form of government ID. There may be 20+ million without a driver's license, but there are other forms.

But I can try and guess to answer this question. Some are homeless, yes. Some may be a spouse and do not need ID in their day to day lives because their significant over covers those areas. Many are probably 18-19 year olds who are not driving at a record rate right now and are living at home, so they have never received an official ID. 40% of 18 year olds don't have a drivers license, double from a few decades ago, so I am guessing a large portion of that 7 million are probably old teenagers who are still in high school or just graduated and ar living at home and have never had to get a bill in their own name.

My point was, if you want an ID, you can get one. Most people who haven't bothered to get an ID are probably the same ones who don't bother to vote. If you work legally, you have what you need to get an ID. Most places will take a W2 or tax return to get an ID if you don't have the other forms. As mentioned social workers can help and there is financial waivers for those who can't afford the $12. There really is no reason to not have a basic ID unless you just don't care to have one.

You still don’t get it and yet, seemingly support a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. You also tried to minimize the issue by saying it’s “just the guy under the dock that doesn’t have ID and they’re probably not voting anyway” or words to that effect.

Getting an “ID” is not the same as proving citizenship in order to vote under the SAVE Act. The repubs are requiring that you prove citizenship in order to register to vote.

Acceptable methods include providing a passport, an original birth certificate or a REAL ID, or government issued ID with a birth certificate or naturalization papers, all of which, if you don’t have, which you now admit may be in the millions, you won’t be able to register to vote. You’ve also previously stated that “some” states provide aid or monetary assistance to avoid what amounts to a poll tax. Please link to said states and the process. I’m sure it’ll be an easy-peasy, no hassle process for anyone not living under a bridge to navigate.

    Yea, probably “old teenagers”, sure.

You still don’t get it. I wasn’t talking about the save act or citizenship. I’ve said that multiple times.

Title of the thread is voter ID. Created the day the senate voted the SAVE Act out of committee or was beginning to debate the bill.

Care to clarify your position? Fair to assume that you favor showing some form of government ID to vote? Because it’s easy enough for the guy living under the pier to get? Are those fair assumptions?

Yes or no question, do you believe non-citizens voting is a problem that needs to be addressed with federal legislation? Follow up, if so, do you believe in “states rights”? Yes or no will do for both.

I said in previous elections. The save act does not apply retroactively.
I don't agree with all of the save act, but I do think there is nothing wrong with basic ID requirements. As Tempo pointed out, nobody is struggling to get a basic ID and who is willing and able to go out and vote.

LOTS do.
If this is true, shouldn’t the goal be to get these people IDs rather than allowing them to vote without one? Here’s a list of a few things you need an ID to do…..

    1) Drive a car
    2) Get a job
    3) Open a bank account/apply for a credit card
    4) Buy a home/rent an apartment
    5) Vote

Of all the else things, voting is by far the least important. Yet I never hear democrats talk about helping people that don’t have IDs to get IDs. Because if they solved that problem (if it is in fact a problem), then there’d be no reason to be against voter IDs. And we know they don’t want that.
again you do not need an id to get a credit card. i just got one 3 months ago.

And I have never been asked for ID to rent a home. I just fill in some paperwork.

There are reasons beyond just apathy. Maybe you don't have transportation. Maybe the DMV hours don't work with your work hours and can't get them off to go. Maybe you never had a SS card or birth certificate because your parents didn't take care of those docs. Maybe you don't trust banks because historically they took advantage of people like you. Maybe you're credit isn't good enough for a card.

There are hurdles. Yes, maybe you have to put in the work with some added expense and time. But also if its so essential, shouldn't it be easy to get with minimal hurdles?

exactly....If I decide the day before the election that I want to vote the next day then there should be nothing preventing me from doing so

Yes or no will do for both.
the best part about all of this is the non citizens that DO show up to vote vote for republicans lmao

these clowns want people to have a voting plan months in advance so they can get all this shit taken care of. i would say a majority of people that do not engage in politics on a daily basis like we do decide in the week of the election. by then it is too late.

I think it’s the no transgender in women’s sports and no mutilation of kids that they’re all in on. If disenfranchising millions of Americans from their right to vote is the cost of making sure women are women and guys aren’t playing women’s sports and kids aren’t being mutilated left and right, so be it. Because all three issues are out of control and elections are being stolen by she-men or men-she’s.

As far as the credit card and renting, don't they ask for some sort of financial documentation, like bank statements? And you need an ID to get a checking account. It been 14 years since I rented my last apartment, but I remember submitting all sorts of paperwork and getting a background and credit check. Maybe they didn't ask for my ID directly, but I wouldn't have had those other things without one.
If it was that easy to just open a credit card, the fraud would be much more rampant. They want to make sure you are who you say you are, by requiring documents that prove it. Maybe directly or indirectly require an ID. If you open a CC through your bank, they already have all that info. So just depends on where and who you open it with as far as what they'll need.

dude, i PROMISE you the last two credit cards i got they did not even verify that i make the money i said i did and they did not ask for my id. all they asked was whether or not i own my home, how much i pay in rent/mortgage, and what my gross income per month is. i promise you i did not need to provide id, or any other financial documents. it was easier than ordering an uber.

if you don't believe me and you can take the hard credit pull, apply for a credit card today.

You seem unaware of how totally loose the credit card companies are with giving people credit, lol.
