Not quite up to par with a lot of stuff in this thread, but tonight I made pollock po’ boys. I think this is the first time in my entire life I have fried something at home.

How did you come to use Pollock?  Very versatile fish. It's one we fished for in Alaska when I worked there.  Never heard of it until I did.

    Not too fishy tasting.
we got an alaskan fish assortment as a gift.

Yum. What goes on it. Pickles mayo tomato lettuce? Seasoned flour? Asking for a friend..

tartar sauce. “marinate” the fish for a couple of hours in buttermilk and a bunch of spices…dredge in a cornmeal/flour/pepper mixture…back in the buttermilk…back in the dredge….into the oil.

Great dishes everyone! These are my stuffed colossal shrimp with lump crab meat ready for the oven to bake

I love shrimp so much. years ago, I ordered a dozen fried shrimp at Outback (I know, I know). the waiter brought them out and minutes later another waiter came out with another dozen. “I think we made a mistake. Do you want them?”

    uh, yeah. 🤣

Just a typical lunch in the home office. This is why we never eat out. Salad with ham, cranberries, red pepper and walnuts. Red wine vinegar dressing. Egg drop tofu soup with Japanese black vinegar. Fruit salad. I also had a square of 72% dark chocolate.

This morning I made a quick breakfast. Bacon, a French omelette and toast. I’ve been on a French omelette kick lately because they take less time to cook than it takes a French press to steep coffee. This one ended up looking more like scrambled eggs, but it was still super tasty.

    Nice.
I went on a French omelette jag a bunch of years back until I perfected how I wanted it to be.
    So fucking good.
My wife and kid overcook their eggs and I dont like the omelettes the way they do, but I will cook for them.

    So simple, yet so amazing.

Trying to eat less convenient junk food. Hard change. Got a ton of different fruit. Salads. Just hard to change habits. Food =  happiness for me.

Any tips on changing bad eating habits?

Sounds trite, but dont purchase any foods you dont want to end up eating.

Still can enjoy eating, just stock up on items you can work to make enjoyable

What do you mean by convenient junk food? Fast food or frozen meals? There is really no good reason to eat fast food, except perhaps when traveling. I think a big part of eating healthy is the mental aspect. Especially weekday dinner when it feels like a ton of work to cook and clean. It does not have to be. For me, the big first step was significantly reducing carbs and sugar. For many saturated fats, salt or cholesterol maybe an issue. It really depends. For us, it is more important that food is easy and nutritious on a daily basis. We try to have healthy side dishes ready in the fridge so all we need to do is cook a protein. It is easy to overthink food. Perhaps you have heard the saying "live to eat or eat to live?" Eat to live 5 days a week, live to eat for 2.

I hear yah.  It's about routine IMO.  The first couple weeks of making a diet change are rough, but it does get easier if you stick with it.  I'm currently trying to lose 15  - 20 pounds and I swear this shit was easier when I was younger lol.  If you like pickles, they are a good snack.  A healthier snack than a bag of Doritos.
