Sure we have classic outlets, but with less clicks, eyes and purchases than ever, and conversely more eyes on niche and modern media (IG, TikTok, podcasts, YT), what is the mainstream? When you have CBS news reaching 1 million of prime demographic viewers, where a podcast can hit just as many eyes, is the traditional "mainstream" media dead? Has it flipped? Or is it just media and NYT, NBCBSABCFox just basic AF now?Sure, go on 60 minutes, it’s still a top five (non NFL) rated show. Go on CNN and MSNBC.
But also go on Rogan and Fox News. Not just once, but repeatedly and often. And be nice and respectful.
it's great democrats had a big show this weekend, but it’s the same losing message over and over again…trump is evil. That failed twice. The one time they beat him is when they focused on his poor covid record. If not for Covid, they would have lost to him on 2020.
Mr Hayes is way off, all we heard about trump during Harris’ campaign was the 34 felony convictions, and most non democrats did not buy that message. When a DA creates a once in a lifetime charge to convert a misdemeanor into a felony, that makes his witch hunt shtick sound reasonable. Great way for Dems to lose credibility without realizing it.0 -
Losing message, except where it didn’t. Which was every time except twice. Granted both were presidential elections, but it’s almost as if maybe it’s not just one thing driving people’s decisions0

I think continually pointing out how Trump is bad is important. Not doing that normalizes everything he does and moves the Overton window.0

It’s worth pointing out, this is the heart of the argument,But one thing that tends to get lost in this discussion is that for all the failures of the Democratic Party in 2024, in narrow terms the Harris-Walz campaign’s message was actually an effective one. The campaign and its allied super PAC spent more money on advertising than any other presidential effort in history, and most of that was concentrated in the swing states. There, voters were less likely to defect to Mr. Trump than in nonswing states such as New Jersey, New York and California. And the message of those ads was in line with a lot of what many critics have suggested — focused on core economic issues and framed in populist terms, with Ms. Harris portrayed as an ally of the working class.
In other words, even though she lost, her core problem was not her message, however imperfect it might have been. It was an inability to get enough people to hear it, in spite of record-breaking advertising spending. If Mr. Trump had not run a single paid advertisement in the race, he almost surely would have dominated the single most important resource of our age: attention. Democrats need to win the attention contest in 2026 and beyond if they want to win back the country.
Looking at Trumps overall approval rating as well as his approval ratings on the major issues, people remember again that Trump is bad. Not pointing that out undercuts pointing out where he has failed.Post edited by Tim Simmons at0 -
