After reading Barrett Martin and Thurston Moore’s autobiographies, and recently starting Steve Turner’s, I would love to see Matt release one in the future. He’s been a part of the scene for so long I’m sure he’d have some great stories to tell. Between Soundgarden, TOTD, PJ, and all of his other projects he could probably fill a couple of volumes!“Do not postpone happiness”

most people said the drummer is the MOST replaceable in bands, which is debatably a true statement. Did anyone say it absolutely? 100% of drummers in 100% of bands?Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0

It depends on who the person is. In Zeppelin, Bonham was irreplaceable. PJ has had so many drummers in the past that we can imagine a new drummer and a slightly different sound. That being said, Matt was simply unbelievable every show, every album.'And his loneliness is proof'0

More clues as to why Matt left from a new Billboard article. Just sounds like he was burnt out.Relevant quotes -
The Soundgarden album is just one of the endeavors Cameron’s been up to since, and before, announcing his departure from Pearl Jam — which he says was amicable. “I definitely gave them a lot of notice,” he notes. “I’ve spoken with Jeff (Ament) and Stone (Gossard) a little bit…It’s been fine. Hopefully we’ll get back together at some point and have a beer or something.”
He maintains, as he did in his original announcement, that “I’m at a point in my life where I want to redirect my time and energy in a way that is a little bit based on what I want to pursue as an artist at this point.”“I was having some issues with (Pearl Jam’s) three-hour shows and constant touring and stuff,” Cameron adds. “That’s definitely an art form unto itself, to be able to do those types of shows…I’m at a point now where I want to do a face-melting 70-minute set, and that’s kind of what I’m focusing on right now.”

Wow, the "constant touring" was getting to him!?!
Can we all dare to dream that somehow the new drummer unlocks a world where Pearl Jam starts playing with a much greater frequency?0 -
Interesting....I like the idea of a face melting set. It's been awhile since they did 3 hour sets so they clearly tried to adapt for him with shorter sets and fewer stops
Kind of what we expected I guessRemember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

I'm surprised he mentioned the three hour show when they haven't done that for years.
The band was clearly trying to make things work for him but I get it. Really looking forward to the SG albumRemember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

Interesting comments from MC, for sure. They really don't play a lot of shows anymore. It's not like they go out for 70+ dates per year like the old days. It's more like 3 week legs at a time and very sporadic compared to years passed. Sure, it's still a commitment but it's not like it eats up a year at a time. More like a few months.
And 3 hour shows? They've been at 2:15 - 2:30 on the last couple of tours. I'm sure that's no cakewalk but it's not the consistent 3 hour+ shows of the past.
Anyway, I still love MC and wish him the absolute best, but it's unfortunate to hear that he really didn't seem stoked to be in the band anymore.
I vote for the reinstatement of Dave Krusen!!!!!!"Darkness comes in waves, tell me, why invite it to stay?"0 -

Still really bummed that he left, and that the shortening of shows and the decrease in touring wasn't enough, or was enough until it wasn't. Sounds like it's something he raised to them a while ago. I'm glad they scaled back to keep him around, even if it wasn't forever.
Even more of a bummer considering that this happened somewhat on the heels of what is generally considered to be the band's best record in a very long time. DM had & has me super-excited for the next record and the next chapter of the band. Now the band has to start over, in a sense. But since Matt didn't have a whole lot of creative input in general when it comes to their records, maybe it won't be as bad as I'm fearing. Not that it would be bad, but you get the idea. I don't know. It just sucks. He's such a bad ass, and was the perfect fit at the perfect time.
I wonder if DM has the band so jazzed that they wanted to get back into the record/touring cycle quicker than normal, and Matt wasn't interested, so he bowed out, rather than have them put their plans on the shelf because of him.May your days be long, til kingdom come.0 -

+No need for a new drummer as long as there’s no album in the making or a live show announced.
How about that: If a live show will happen before a recording session… Why not try to keep the new drummer’s name top secret to add a bit of one-time live suspense.💡
edit: 🤣
To keep the name secret as long as the new drummer isn’t on stage could be a thought too utopian.Post edited by D-Day on0
