Hey, but in all seriousness, how’s our resident legal scholar doing? You know, the one who was going to school me and yet couldn’t cite the law regarding ICE having much more carte blanch? Remember that one? I hear they’ve moved on to gun control or something about Japan and some crime stats and stuff. But somehow they think they’re safe, something about white male privilege. Anyway, interesting times.
”Remember when the law used to matter?”
Doing just fine. Its vacation season. Enjoying some time off from all the bullshit. Including your white noise. No visa? No bueno with the current administration. You cannot just step on the ground and expect to be welcomed, housed, paid, provided a lawyer, and fed. Not happening with our current President. You can hate it, but that is the current state of affairs. Objectively. What law do you want me cite? The reasonable force laws, the traffic stop laws? Gimme a break. Like I said, the current administration is aggressively enforcing the rules. I am neither in favor nor against it. You come here without a visa and you might be detained, imprisoned or kicked out. Enter at your own risk. And if you are already here, the same is true. Legally, it does not matter that you have been here 10 years. That is the advice I would give to any client thinking of coming, or being here, without a visa or green card. Be here illegally and bad stuff can happen under the current administration.
PS: you still don’t know where ICE gets its legal authority from and what it allows ICE to enforce.
Keep making up words. The ICE authority comes from a number of statutes and regulations. Is there a written law that allows a police officer to pull a weapon and follow procedures to protect themselves? There is not. There is law and there is real life. They do not always meet. But keep believing that written law will protect you. It will not. Maybe 2 years later.
You still can’t cite ICE’s legal authority. You claimed you were going to school me. I’m still waiting.

Sorry, but my education ended in the 3rd grade.
So, counseller, is it legal for ICE agents to detain and hold US citizens without any due process?
I wait with patience for your obfuscation. It’s a yes or no question.
Officers are not judge and jury, that comes later. You get your due process, but it might take awhile and it is not carried out by officers. You should understand that even with a third grade education from another country. And learn how to spell counselor before you engage in a debate that is based on your emotional feelings for humans rather than a practical understanding of how things really work.0 -

You seem to agree that violating constitutional rights is okay because they “can” and “do.” You don’t or haven’t considered whether its actually legal for them to do so and rely on “due process” in two days, weeks, months or years, and have no concern about it because “you’re a white male lawyer.”
Welcome to authoritarianism ladies and gentlemen, endorsed by a self-proclaimed member of the legal profession.

In some cases, that means ICE’s federal law enforcement officers lodge immigration detainers against potentially dangerous aliens who have been arrested by another law enforcement agency or are removable from the United States.
Does that apply to US citizens? Yes or no?
From The Guardian article I posted in the Immigration thread. Still think it’s legal, counseller? Not that they “can” and “do,” and “it’s how it works in the ‘real’ world,” is it legal, yes or no?
Under the second Trump administration, a Guardian analysisfound average daily immigration arrests in June 2025 were up 268% compared with June 2024, with the majority of people arrested having no criminal convictions.
From CBC:
U.S. President Donald Trump has pledged to deport "the worst of the worst," yet the majority of people currently detained by immigration agents have no criminal convictions, according to government data regarding ongoing detentions.
The latest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) statistics show that as of June 29, there were 57,861 people detained and 41,495 — 71.7 per cent — had no criminal convictions. That includes 14,318 people with pending criminal charges and 27,177 who are subject to immigration enforcement, but have no known criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.

Legal? Yes or no? So much for the rule of law, eh counseller?
The ICE officers did not present a warrant or officer identification when Pineda was confronted and arrested, according to LCR. The group called the incident a reflection of an “alarming pattern of ICE’s unlawful and inhumane practices in Massachusetts, where federal agents regularly operate without following well-established state and federal law, including their own standards of enforcement.”

No question they are testing the legal limits, perhaps exceeding them in certain cases. That is not a new concept for law enforcement in the US. Our President is testing legal limits in a myriad of ways, not just immigration. They do not need a warrant to arrest or detain you. Enforcing the immigrations laws is not as cut and dry as you would like it to be. What if being an ICE officer was your job? You have to look at it from both sides.0
