The ultra left doesn’t have new ideas. Just really bad old ones, leading to the voting trends posted above in formerly strong blue regions.

I feel like things that Mamdani is running on (rent stabilization and better tenants rights, more affordable housing, free busses, city owned grocery in food desert areas, higher minimum wage) are pretty popular policy positions. Especially with young people. 

Forget if they are truly workable or not (at the very least, IMO, they are worth chasing even if there are compromises), hes connecting with people. Again, I know NYC dems are not national Dems, but the throughline is there, find issues that appeal to the common person run on it while trying to connect personally.

What would think are better positions for Democrats to run on?

similar to NYS which was +28 dem twelve years ago and 2024 only +12 with the bad trump on the ticket, and hochul won by six in 2022. But everyone on the ultra left yells “hey look at mamdani” and forgets to see the bigger truth, that they are losing voters in droves in democratic regions.

dems couldn’t even win the election/ democracy debate in the last election. As a party we need to get real.

We need to get real that many of us will not survive these coming years. Unimaginable suffering and pain. And to think I quit drinking for this shit.

I think about that now and then.  If I were to lose my Medicare, I could be a goner.  But maybe not.  I'm very stubborn and there are creepy people in this world I would like to see go before I do.  We'll see.  That's why it's important to make everyday count for something good.  Balance out all that evil shit the creeps keep putting out there.

On one hand, I find you exhausting. On the other hand, I'm going to use this in real life when talking about the Democratic Party.

I step into this conversation once in awhile. But it is clear no matter which side you are on, that there is much ignorance on how this process works. You want change or a benefit? Write a check, or maybe five. Politicians do not work for free in the US. Sad but true. And even writing that check may not move the needle.

Its too late. "Corporations are people too." All writing checks does is get you more solicitation emails. Unless you can afford the $100K+ dinners or drop $370+M on candidates and parties. The small dollar donor gets no access and can't compete. They've been priced out of "democracy."

Ever read the Federalist Papers? Understand factions? And yes the price of admission is much more than that $100 donation. That is throwing money away. Try $20-100 million. Then your policy or rule change might get considered or pushed through.

From the mamdani perspective , as expressed in that Suozzi op ed, it’s different on the state/local level. If they start raising taxes to pay for an expanded socialist state in NY, many business will start leaving.

His point being, the judge of this, as he said, the blue states will be losing many seats and electoral votes in 2030. There is no clearer expression of opinion than that. Pew can’t touch reality, as good as their polling is. I’ve made that point about declining D State electoral votes  on this forum many times.
