The departure of Matt means the end of Pearl Jam for me. I still may see them if they are close and I score 10C tickets. But I will not be working very hard to attend a concert without Matt. And I will not pay $250 a ticket to see a replacement.
Would you consider Jack Irons or Dave Krusen to be replacements, if hypothetically one of them are picked?

I think the drummer from No Code (who was very much not kicked out) would be an incredible fit for the band. I don’t think he wants the gig though.
Well then why was he not the drummer for the past 27 years? C'mon. Cameron was a beast that will not be easily replaced. Be real.
Because he couldn’t physically keep up with the touring.

They will pull an audible if they continue. It will not be a former drummer IMHO. I am not optimistic. There are reasons they were kicked out in the first place. Ed is not done, but I think Pearl Jam as we know it is done. Someone else said "going through the motions." That describes the last show I saw. I will not be chasing PJ shows the way I once did. I do not want to see Ed wheeled out and singing from a chair. If they called it quits I would be perfectly happy with what they gave us and with what I have seen.
They were not going through the motions during any of the 7 shows I saw over the last two years. No need for doom and gloom or rash decisions (more in response to your other post, but I’m not scrolling back to clip it). That said, if this is your last stop on the all encompassing trip, best wishes. And if we don’t get PJ for ten or 20 years, you bet your ass I will be there to watch Ed sing from a chair just like Ozzy just did, and killed it by the way.

And enjoy every note, no matter what. Being at a live Pearl Jam show is still a great place to be. It is not as of there is a better place to be at that moment in time. But if they drag Ed out in a chair for $350 tickets I will most definitely not be there. I guess I was just lucky to be there from the 90s. Ozzy sang well, but it was sad. He can't even stand up by himself and was shaking with Parkinson's just to make a few bucks. Sad.
I feel they almost have to bring in a no name drummer because someone who has a big name has to have an ego or if a previous dummer doesn’t live up to the hype it could be a lot of pressure to not live up to the expectations. It's like Jason leaving Metallica.

We are all going through the stages of grief about Matt. This is a fairly safe place. get it all off your chest.

Stuverud - I think he makes the most sense. Has a relationship with Jeff. Solid Floor, limited upside. Brad Wilk - I love this idea. RATM is on the "tour every 5 year plan", so it should work. He can make it work, large upside. Josh Freese - I love the idea of this. Most upside, a supreme talent like Matt, has done it all. His time in Foos came to a premature end, he just doesn't seem to be worth the headache he seems to be. For that reason I don't think he is on the short list. Here's a new one Ilan Rubin - Also a RNR HOF'er. Like Wilk, NIN is also on a tour every 5 years model. If you aren't seeing NIN on their summer tour starting in August, you may never see them again. He's obviously ready for the big time and would be an amazing addition. Janet Weiss - No Thank you.
Of course Jack Irons or the Dave's would be instantly accepted, no questions asked.
Brad Wilk and Eddie were in a band together right before Eddie joined PJ.
I first noticed Ilan Rubin when I saw the video on youtube of NIN playing a couple of songs with Gary Numan in London. He blew me away! Young dude too.
Richard Stuverud or Regan Hagar would be dudes who could do the job and can hang. For longevity would be wise to go with someone on the younger side - don't want to run into the same issue in a couple years.
Could be Josh. He isn't known for his drumming but did play all the drums on 8 john frusciante solo albums between 2004-2008 (except for a handful chad played on) and he is a lot younger than his competition. I think he is a good enough musician that he could do the job with some time and practice. He wasn't really a lead guitar player before joining chili peppers but learned their catalogue pretty quickly and did a solid job keeping the band going during those years

I’d like to see Krusen get a chance. He mentioned in an interview last year that he looks back at that time fondly but also has always felt like he’s had a little unfinished business and would be interested in doing something creative with the band again. Would be nice to see things come full circle.
I listened to a podcast interview with Dave Krusen in which he told the story about his departure from Pearl Jam and his struggle with alcoholism and his relapses. Of particular note was after Dave Abbruzzese was let go, Eddie called Dave Krusen. Krusen was hoping the call would be to invite him to rejoin Pearl Jam, and he was very excited about that possibility. Eddie said, "Whoa whoa, let's take things one step at a time." He was calling to invite Dave Krusen to be the drummer for Hovercraft. Krusen has also talked about how proud he was at the success of Pearl Jam but how he still kicks himself for fucking up and having to watch their rise from the sidelines.

Damn that’s kind of sad. Eddie always has a preference for Jack over everything else, even what was best for Jack.

Keep Klinghoffer in his current role. Ed’s already expressed how important his role is.
I’d love to see either Krusen or Irons come back, but I don’t think that’ll happen. I’d love Irons for studio recording in particular.
This band do things in their own time. Who knows what will happen next and when.
It could be a former member!? it could be a current member - Klinghoffer It could be someone we know!? it could be someone we’ve never heard of!? it could be a woman!?
They could also do a ‘drummers get talent’ type reality tv show 😂
Curious as to why Freese was referred to as a headache in a previous post. First time fired in 40 years...consummate pro...Maynard doesn't suffer fools talent wise given his main band has Danny Carey. Just sounds strange.

Freese's resume is insane, really incredible. Have no idea why he was let go from FF, but i would imagine he really only works for a very short term assignment. Seems like he would do a tour, maybe two, and then move on.
I don't think Krusen could learn all of these Matt songs. But that being said, if PJ was looking at winding down over the next 5 years (one more album, few short tours), it would be a romantic look to get him back in. Limit the setlist to Ten (which he knows obviously) and maybe 40-50 other songs. Write the final album together, close with the original 5.
There is something special about his parts on Ten. His lighter, less busy touch leaves a lot more room for the guitars to specifically drive and accent in a way they never quite could with Matt.
I've always been a Jack Irons fan first... but I'm getting sappy in my old age. Make an album with Dave.
Granted, I don’t know anything about drumming styles and I know it’s such an out of box thought but would love to see Stewart Copeland in the choices. Totally not the same type of music that I saw with the Police but could be interesting…
I'll ride the wave where it takes me...

I’m not a drummer nor do I have inside knowledge. My gut is Richard, Josh, or Barrett Martin. Again - no inside knowledge - but I assume Jeff will have a bigger say in the matter and he and Richard seem to be tight. He did amazing in Oakland.
Josh did great also and is younger. If the guys see him as capable, he may have the edge
