I don’t know how accurate it is, but I seem to recall hearing years ago that presidents by and large are historically judged on how they handle international issues, even though on the surface these are not top issues for American voters. I think the rationale was these matters tend to be sudden and unpredictable, so you see more of a president’s leadership in these moments. Biden’s handling of Europe during the Russian invasion I would’ve thought would’ve been his moment, but I guess that’s not as popular or important as the Afghanistan war.
