His explanation is basically what Woke was defined as before it was co-opted by conservatives as a lazy cynical catch all for “stuff i don’t like”.
Using "woke" wasn't a good choice for them, because it wasn't used for everything, bust mostly targeting the over-the-top PC reaction to the current culture.
Like forcing so many diversity trainings in public schools. The reaction to the garage pull that was a noose in Nascar and calling in the FBI, and around that same time a ninja course in a public park was taken down because the rope handles looked too much like a noose. The harsh criticism for anyone who initially questioned Jussie Smollet when his story didn't make sense. That sort of thing. The textbook definition of "woke" has a positive appeal, so calling someone too woke wasn't a good strategy, they should have come up with another word.

What a strange tweet. The GOP loves Putin in no small part because he and his country are so un-woke.

I don't know, maybe there's an opporunity to label Hitler a woke war criminal and MAGA will start hating him again.

It was a good choice if you wanted the minimize what was motivating the original movement behind “Be/Stay Woke” and to weaponize some sort of catch all amorphous bastardization for people who had no understanding of a colloquialism.

But to your broader point, I do think it’s worth reflecting on why people were feeling so alarmed, where diversity trainings, sensitivity levels and and a gross lie were happening.
