Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party, along with the establishment wing of the Republican Party, which allied itself with Harris, live in their own non-reality-based belief system. Harris, who was anointed by party elites and never received a single primary vote, proudly trumpeted her endorsement by Dick Cheney, a politician who left office with a 13 percent approval rating. The smug, self-righteous “moral” crusade against Trump stokes the national reality television show that has replaced journalism and politics. It reduces a social, economic and political crisis to the personality of Trump. It refuses to confront and name the corporate forces responsible for our failed democracy. It allows Democratic politicians to blithely ignore their base -  77 percent of Democrats and 62 percent of independents support an arms embargo against Israel. The open collusion with corporate oppression and refusal to heed the desires and needs of the electorate neuters the press and Trump  critics. These corporate puppets stand for nothing, other than their own advancement. The lies they tell to working men and women, especially with programs such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), do far more damage than any of the lies uttered by Trump.
lol....great argument since trump is literally a reality tv show slug
"But what about Trump?" "But Trump is bad" "At least she's not Trump"  I don't think that platform worked this time.  I think Hedges is a really smart journalist who is critical of both sides, but your reply proves his point.  The Democrats have completely lost their way... but what about Trump?!
huh? I'm pointing out the idiocy of him saying that politics has been replaced by "the national reality show" when trump was a REALITY SHOW HOST.

But yeah...you all will be using the what about trump crap for the next four years
I'm not seeing anywhere in his statement that he supports Trump.  Here's yet another reply where you aren't defending the Democrats, but you are still focused on Trump.  That appears to be the entire point of his message here.  Obviously the "what about Trump?" message wasn't enough to win this election.  Enough voters defected because they didn't like what the party has become.  There are plenty of videos out there by the likes of RFK Jr. and Tulsi describing what they see happening in the Democratic Party, and the Democrats dismissed them, leaving them with no choice but to cut ties.  Well, enough voters feel the way RFK Jr. and Tulsi do.  And it lost them the election.

By the way, I've never voted Republican for President.  I voted Democrat through 2020, even though it was with fading passion with Hillary in '16 and especially with Joe in '20.  I totally think the DNC wanted Joe as their puppet in '20 and set it up for him to somehow come out as their candidate.  They sure as hell didn't want Bernie.  So this is who you're quarreling with on here.  A Democratic lifer who had finally had enough.  And so many people are seeing that this is not the Democratic party... and the "whatabout" shit doesn't do a damn thing.  Except lose you an election.
no I agree it doesn't work...it should but it doesn't

I think I've been pretty clear in saying that it's because the electorate is ignorant. I don't know how to fix or approach that.
"73 million people are ignorant.  I know a lot more than them.  Chris Hedges doesn't know what he's talking about." Hubris.  "The electorate are dumb.  We can install a woman who never received a primary vote and just focus on how bad HE is and we'll win the election."
Not all 73 million are ignorant. Some are racist misogynists and some are generally just stupid.
I have friends and family that are Trump voters.  I am not.  It's pretty clear they're not that different than me.

What was he convicted of? Who was the victim(s)?  If you want to know, most common sense Americans don't care, given that is was a bogus trial, bogus judge, bogus charges. So, bottomline, it was bogus. And most Americans don't care about stuff like that.

If Trump shot someone on 5th avenue. Would you still vote for him?

Well, enjoy your dictator, people.  Sorry about the buyer's remorse you will have to suffer through.
As for me, I'm moving on to greener pastures.  The inconsistency of what is and isn't allowed here is just not worth the headache.  I will miss some of you, others, good riddance.
PM me if you want to keep in touch elsewhere.

I don't' follow these forums closely. I have no idea what way you lean politically, but don't quit. Just take some time off from here and don't let the extremist (both sides) on this board get to you.

I do understand the frustration though and it's why I rarely post much over the 20+ years I've been a member.  There are a handful of posters who think they have everything figured out. I get tired of seeing the snarky, condescending, and the I'm right your wrong interactions.

I find it hard to believe these people are the same way in real life. I feel sad for them if so.  Aholes can be found in all parties and it's reflected strongly on this forum.

Really? How about the women that he sexual assaulted? I can only imagine the skeletons in his closet from his time with his best buddy Epstein. But it’s cool, he said he’ll fix inflation so all can be ignored.

There won't be any nitwit cronies this time guys. Project 2025 already has the lists of the best people to fill these roles to accomplish the goals they will need to sprint through in the next 2 years in the event Congress or Senate move back to the left once shit gets real. They'll be no messing around this time. Trump may be golfing a lot, but he'll have the right people pushing the extreme conservative agenda at all levels. Buckle up, it's going to suck. I expect him to be successful in delivering that nightmare plan to Americans this time. Let all the Project 2025 deniers try to laugh it off then.

I'd bet the the #1 priority is "not relinquishing power." They'll see to it that there's no way Dems can make up any ground.

Trump voter here. Economy & inflation were the 2 most important items to me. Our household grocery bills have almost tripled in the last 2 years. Kamala says she's going to fix it. Why not do something now while you're in office and have the opportunity? She would have gotten a lot more votes (including mine) had she shown some action instead of just talking and laughing.

Inflation has been dropping lately to fairly typical historical levels. I’m curious, since the economy is your main issue, what you think when you hear that Trump’s policies will increase inflation

I think your last line gives away that there really wasn't much she could do to win your vote. Talking and laughing, really? Ok, so vote the serial liar back in because promises made, promises kept.

You list one thing she could have done even though she is VP. Yeah, she's in the current admin, but with that level of thinking anything she was running on was BS because why hadn't she just done it now? No win situation. The complication of being part of the current administration if people don't think it's doing enough even though inflation is coming down faster than any other developed nation. Good luck on rolling the dice Trump will bring prices down with his plans to tariff the shit out of everything. Hope it works out at the cost of everything else that's going to happen.

I've seen mixed articles regarding how his policies will increase inflation. All the so called experts on both sides of the political spectrum claim to know what's going to happen. Do I think his policies will fix it? I honestly don't know. However with his business background, I have more confidence in him than Kamala in that regard.

Side note, I wasn't crazy about either candidate. I hope the next election has some new & better candidates to pick from.

Yes, 6 bankruptcies instills confidence he knows what he's doing versus Harris appointing experts and people that know best on how to make it happen. Do you really think Trump has a plan that will lower costs for the whole country? Neither candidate personally will be making the plan so I trust the person who hasn't bankrupted their businesses multiple times to provide an effective solution. If that's even something either of them can control.

    Groceries have tripled?
    I call BS!
I know my strawberries arent now $6 a pint
    I know my almonds aren't  now $24 a pound
I know my yogurt isnt now $18 per container.

So you must have upgraded from Aldi to Whole foods.
    Otherwise BS!
