Trump won because people thought he would do better with the economy, would better control illegal immigration, and would slow the advance of ultra woke policies. Those are your reasons that Trump won. Sure, Trump may be terrible at those things, but people vote on their perceptions of reality. So Dems need to stop saying they lose because of racism and misogyny, and work harder to convince voters that they are better in these areas.0 -
Maybe less policy specific, but many people look back to 5 or 6 years ago and enough people see their situation as better back then.bootleg said:
It can’t be policy based because “things are going to be a lot better” and “I have concepts of a plan” and “tarriff the shit out of everything” are not policies. And even if he did have an actual legit policy how do you ever just take his word for it that’s what he’ll do. He’ll say anything to get elected and his only compass is what will benefit him the most.bootlegger10 said:Some like Trump, but most vote for him in spite of him. They don’t like liberal policies, and they will look past Trump’s antics and moral shortcomings because they are voting for policies. At least that is what I have been told by several folks.Right or wrong, I think that is how a lot of voters got okay voting for Trump. They focused on policies they care about.Dems can keep writing off half the nation as racist and anti-woman, but they will continue to lose with that mentality.
More people could afford a home, more people could afford a car as compared to now. Between the huge spike in housing costs and interest rates compared to 5 years ago, a monthly mortgage has doubled, even tripled in from 5 years ago. You can argue how much of that has to do with trump and Biden/Harris, but many people are comparing their lives to 5 years ago. They see houses bought in 2019 have a mortgage of $1200, that same house today has a mortgage of $3000.
Like I said, you can argue how much trump and Biden impact that, but that does effect votes.0 -

As I replied to one of your sexism posts yesterday, Hillary Clinton all but won in 2016, so it's not like people won't vote for a woman. Harris was unpopular as a candidate in 2020 (damn sexist democrats), unpopular as VP (very low approval rating), and she didn't earn this nomination. That's a terrible candidate whether it's a male or female.tbergs said:
If you don't think sexism played a factor, i don't know that there's anything i can say to change your mind. Just go out there and read about the numerous women and men who don't think a woman should be president. That's an x factor she was born with and can't change, but yet the White male con man can do whatever he wants.Ledbetterman10 said:
So why didn't she get a single delegate in the 2020 primary? Was the democratic electorate racist or sexist? Or did they know that she a terrible candidate even then?tbergs said:

Yep. The Democrats botched this election so badly. Put everything behind a senile old man who was clearly not well and then had to pivot to the highly unpopular VP after the debate disaster. And then they just anoint Harris into the nomination. Not shocked at all by these results.0 -

The only way prices come down is to abandon capitalism. If anyone believes corporations are going to willingly cut prices on good and services and lower their quarterly earnings, especially when raising prices is what has been driving corporate revenue the past 3-4 years, well they have another thing coming. You may see prices on goods level out some over the next year or two, but that would happen under either party. We’ll never see prices get back to where they were pre-COVID. That’s a reality,mcgruff10 said:I remember a professor I had said people will always vote their wallets and I think this is exactly what happened here. Prices are out of control; hopefully President Trump fulfills his promise of bringing prices back down.0 -

You know I have concerns about a lot of things. I know Trump will do crazy things. I do worry about my retirement, inflation if tariffs out of control and if so-called trump tax breaks will raise my taxes again.
But the first thought in my head is how awful it must feel if you are Ukrainian. You are likely to be abandoned and Trump will allow his daddy to steal land....crazy.hippiemom = goodness0 -

Don’t agree with abandoning capitalism, but I’ve said to my wife for years that when prices became highly inflated during the pandemic, corporations were never going to willingly lower them again.jerparker20 said:

i remember vividly during the pandemic the price of chicken wings being insanely high. Then I saw on the news a year or 2 later than supply, etc normalized and bulk prices returned to pre covid levels….
BUT restaurants never reduced their menu prices and haven’t. And they never will. Inflation is high, largely because of corporate greed. Accept that.0 -

100%. Not just corporate greed though. Individual greed. Mahomes thinks he deserves $500M for throwing a football. Raises price of tickets, concessions, tv deals, etc…. Trickles its way down the chain.mookieblalock said:
