It certainly possible.  That said, if one of the main 5 were to "quit" for whatever reason (or if time caught up with them), I would be surprised if they did anything as Pearl Jam after that.  Maybe some tribute concerts, etc. Not sure.

It certainly possible.  That said, if one of the main 5 were to "quit" for whatever reason (or if time caught up with them), I would be surprised if they did anything as Pearl Jam after that.  Maybe some tribute concerts, etc. Not sure.

The funny thing about this response and the remark that preceded it is that I just asked the guy a question. I wasn't even arguing.

If I liked to argue for the sake of arguing, you would see me arguing things that I don't believe. You don't see that.

This is the forum for the Pearl Jam fan club. People, including me, can and do offer thoughtful criticisms of the band, as they should. No one is above reproach (including me). But if people are going to take the position and attitude that Pearl Jam are greedy assholes or that they're  phoning it in, they shouldn't be surprised to receive pushback on that in a forum for Pearl Jam fans. Most of us are here because we like Pearl Jam. We like their music. We think they're decent people who've been really good to their fans for decades. We don't understand the cynicism and vitriol that some people here seem to harbor towards them. People are entitled to have that attitude towards them, but a case could be made that if someone is that skeptical of Pearl Jam's motives and/or artistry but insists on remaining in the band's fan club and taking potshots at them, then that is the person who is looking for the argument.

Well, I agree they seem very decent, but to me they’ve meddled in the ticket process far too much and have continually preferred to play where they have buddies and family or just where they want, not necessarily in line with where their fans live, unlike any other band I can recall following in my very long tenure attending shows. Yes they owe us nothing and have earned the right to do what they wish, but that’s not the point in an analysis like this.

and punishing fans forever for a bad fan decision made about not joining a fan club during the infancy of the internet must be one of the most punishing decisions ever by a rock band to its fans. I get rewarding early joiners, but to punish us every show ever tour is insane. Of course a comment like that gets a ton of heat in a place like this. So be it.

The only reward for seniority comes if you get tickets in a section with seats. You could have joined in January and gotten GA tickets via the lottery. Your definition of punishment is a bit broad. And you know that one of the reasons why seats were assigned based on seniority was to prevent scalpers from setting up a bunch of new accounts and getting some number of the best seats. To which you'll say "PJ Premium has made that a moot point," but can you imagine the uproar if they just did away with the seniority preference for seat assignments now? There have been a lot of people who complained that they got shut out in the lottery despite their seniority-- even though seniority never had anything to do with whether you get tickets. Another reason why seniority was considered for seat assignments was so that people wouldn't churn their accounts like they do with streaming services. If they got rid of seniority for seat assignments, longtime members would complain that they paid to keep their accounts current in non-touring years for no reason.

What does the infancy of the internet have to do with it? Almost every person with a number below 200,000 joined the Ten Club by mail based on an invitation that was in the liner notes of every album. It is unfortunate for people who were very young or not born yet by 1999 but, again, they have an equal chance to win a GA ticket as someone who joined in 1999 or in 1992, for that matter.

We just see this differently. I see a band that has tried very hard to accommodate a lot of competing interests while consistently doing their best for over 30 years to look out for their fans. You seem to see a bunch of detached, selfish rock stars that don't really care much about their fans. You're entitled to see it that way, but why would you be a fan if that's what you think of them?

It’s funny that my profession requires attention to detail,I purchased every CD when it came out, and never paid attention to that in the liner notes. Twenty years ago it was possible to buy decent seats at the box office, so not joining didn’t seem like a big deal. It’s still punitive to punish fans every show every tour for a decision twenty years ago and can not think of another band that has created a complex ticketing system that drives up market prices unlike any other not named swift here in the east. Infancy of internet means access to information was limited in those days. I knew plenty of PJ fans back then, and not a one ever mentioned ten c and joining was imperative 

for those of us over 50 with various issues standing in GA is impossible. There’s a laundry list of complaints, and a new one this year, for shows with premium prices ranging from $800 to $2000 in the east, meaning these shows were in tremendous demand, how did so many fans win three plus east shows in a random lottery?

there is such complaining about TM in these parts, yet that single question deserves an answer. The best guess has been that there was a single draw, and fans getting a good draw got multiple shows. If so, that drives up prices by maximizing the number of fans in the east without tickets. There’s a decent sized list of things they were first to do that drives up prices.

are they driving up prices in the east on purpose to finance shows played internationally? Doubtful that was the intention , but that’s exactly what’s happening 

As someone over 50, with a 5 digit 10c#(yay me!!) I could argue I have been punished because GA is useless to me and my seats(if I can get them) have been pushed further and further back.  But I won't argue that...because PJ seats are not that important to me anymore.  I got shut out the last Lottery and got seats thru VF for MSG.  And those VF fans seats are way better than what I got thru 10c last MSG show.

My only real beef is that it seems to me 10c/New Management/whoever have completely washed their hands of this ticket nonsense and have let TM run it.  That kinda blows.  But I'll keep my membership, who knows one day there might be a contest I actually win like seats to an intimate show or something else worthwhile.







 

Was watching to the Austin n1 show earlier today and Ed made a comment about the sphere - think it was right before wishlist??? May have one more trick? Or they can’t keep up?? Food for thought with all this Sphere noise going around

Hopefully we will get a U.K. and Europe leg - London, Amsterdam, Vienna, Prague, Italy, Scandinavia and 1-2 others
