Show/Travel Fatigue = Fight It, or Listen

Here's my situation, and I'm looking for some perspective (or dare I say council) from those of who may have been in similar scenarios:

Been home from Vegas for a day. Went to both nights, and was in GA for both. I rested when I could but really didn't have a chance to on Saturday.

Checked out of my hotel, stashed my bags at the nearest bellstand, and had a pre-scheduled Uber waiting to take me to LAS airport at the end of N2.

Caught the red eye to JFK, then lounged around until it was time for my connecting flight back to FL. Got home yesterday by about 6pm. Jet-lagged, but successful.

Went to sleep, and woke up not knowing what day it was. I slept in intervals on my 2 flights, but nothing substantial. So, I've been feeling it today. That, and my feet & ankles are shredded from the GA exp (inside & out).

Now...

I was really looking forward to doing LA 1 & 2. But man, am I tired.

I'm early 40's, could lose a few pounds. Can't do this like I used to. But it's my favorite band, y'know? My question is:

Have any of you ever been like "I just need a little break"?

I mean, everything is cancelable. My flight, rental, and hotel. Hell, I even dumped my 10C tix on F2F to see if I could get better ones. Upgraded twice, and decided before Vegas to give it a shot on the day-of for LA1 & 2.

So, currently ticketless lol.

Does fatigue ever set in for any of you? Knowing you'll see the boys again soon? (In my case: Wrigley, MSG, possible Fenway 2 & definitely Ohana).

Share your thoughts & experiences, please. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I just might come sunrise 🌅

Not because of exhaustion, but I feel like if I go to more than a few shows every few years I start to take it for granted.  The Even Flows, Corduroy's, DTE's... they start wearing on me.

I seem to to enjoy going to shows more if I only go to a few every couple of years kind of thing.

This was the first year I skipped big Seattle shows  in over 25 years, but with two in Vancouver, that satiated my appetite.

Use the resources to buy Foo Fighters Seattle tickets for August.   Really liked their new album and would like to see this tour.

    I guess that's me though.  2 or 3 shows every 2 to 3 years and I'm golden :)

I think as we get older it is smart to listen to your body.

If you normally drink or do any kind of drugs before a show maybe don’t do that at all and hit the LA shows. Also skip merch. Always skip merch actually lol

You can sit down during Eddie’s talking moments or when they play Just Breathe(kidding) etc if you have a seat. Show up at 800pm after resting at the hotel most of the day. Don’t eat too salty of foods helps as well with the swelling.

It’s doable but if you are worn the fuck out there are other shows.

I’d say go to the shows and get seats.  I only regret shows I could have gone to and didn’t.

Yeah I learned from you & @steven87 to just skip the merch line altogether. Coincidentally, waiting for merch at LA 1 & 2 in 2022 kicked my ass, and I think I would've had a better time if I'd just slept or went to the pool.

No drugs, and I usually wait to have a beer in the venue. But maybe that doesn't help? Definitely gonna watch the salty foods next time, no matter where that is.

I did LA 2 last time with @RatherStarved & it was nice to sit during some of the lulls😅Buckle Up was a nice respite, too😏

I mean, it's all still doable (for the next 24 hrs lol) but there will be other shows...

You've got to know your own limits and act accordingly. I have been spread very thin this month hitting all of these cities. I slept overnight in the Portland airport and drove back to L.A. through the night from Sacramento and Vegas, but I wouldn't have done any of that if not for the fact that I'm generally quite healthy and physically active and know I can tolerate it. I exercise vigorously literally every day-- including every day throughout this period no matter where I have been-- so my stamina is good and standing and/or bouncing up and down for hours doesn't really faze me. And I don't drink or smoke or do anything else that might run me even more ragged. But, even still, I don't think I would have done this if there weren't several days off between each city to catch up at home and rest a little, and I probably wouldn't make multiple cross-country trips in a span of a couple of days as you would have to do here. Whatever you decide to do, be careful. We need you for the next tour.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Sage words. Thanks, man :) I'll tell ya, I'm all over the place with exercise, and I need to be more dedicated.

In fact, the only reason I probably didn't die is when I had my layover at JFK, I went outside & did some stretches. Mixed with some deep breaths, it did wonders.

Even as I'm typing in this thread, I'm laying here with my dog who's gonna turn 10 this year & I just wanna enjoy as much time with him as possible.

I've got some legendary venues lined up for later in the year that won't hit me as hard. And even if LA 1 & 2 end up being classics, Vegas 1 & 2 (especially N1) was pretty damn spectacular.

I was GA for both Vegas as well.  Flew out there with seats for both, and each day was able to work deals for GA..how do you say no to GA right?!  I'm happy I did, but I'm in the same boat, turn 45 next week, not unhealthy by any means, but not exactly in shape either...my back, legs, and feet are really not happy.  I love the band, and will see them every opportunity I possibly can, but maybe I don't need GA both nights anymore you know? I had great aisle seats for N2 in the first wing section, probably would have been just as happy having those seats...could have wandered in at my leisure, and just stood up at show time, that might be my plan going forward.

Long winded way of saying if you're up for making the trip, I'd go, but get the seats, chill out a bit, and enjoy the shows with no physical or mental stress....and if your body is telling you no, well then I'd listen....I'm getting to the age where I have to start listening to mine as well as much as I don't want to.  I feel 25, until I do something like this weekend and am quickly reminded I am not.

Quebec 2016 and Rome 2018 I could have done if I was more determined.

I don’t know the setlist for LA obviously but I fully expect Oceans.  It hasn’t been played this tour and they have been doing a different opener every night.  And with it being LA and all, it only makes sense.

The travel by itself is draining.  Especially Pacific to Eastern timezone.  Add in that you had a connecting flight, on top of standing for both shows.  That will really take all of your energy and more.

Due to the extra time and energy required to travel all the way back east, then out west again, I would have stayed out west and traveled from Vegas to LA.  Only if possible.

I would take the much needed rest.  You already have an amazing lineup of shows remaining.  LA 1 & 2 are my only shows.   I wish I could do more.

Ha...ok fair enough. I'm in the same boat. Hoping to catch a deal but will ultimately pay what I need to pay to see one of those shows.

On the LA shows man I don't know. Trust your gut and see how you feel when you wake up. The back and forth across the country does seem like some serious jet lag though.
