I give VMP credit for a nice color vinyl and a very nice gatefold package. I don't know if they use Stoughton printing for the gatefold, but it sure looks to be at that level. So I think the price is quite fair for a double. It's about the same price that AP will charge for a AAA single release. But sound wise, it's right there with the reissue.

I thought it would never come! Giving it a first listen and so far the quality of the sound is what I expected. It’s an excellent pressing with nice detail across the instruments (you can hear the funky rhythm guitar at the end of Pilate nicely) and the bass is solid without overpowering Ed’s vocals. Low light sounds very crisp.

With that said, if you missed out on this or canceled and have the 2016 reissue then you’re probably good to go, but I love the packaging and the consistency of a 45.

If I can make a suggestion: Isolate the turntable from your speakers. Your vinyl will sound much better.

You are correct and my center is out of place. It’s a small area and I’m in the process of trying to rearrange so this is a temporary setup.

Considering the source is exactly the same, it really doesn't make much rational sense. You would have to be arguing that Furnace is a significantly better plant than MPO. Being a 45 isn't enough of a difference. To wit, if you compare APs 45 vs 33 Kind of Blue, the difference is slight. Same with Blue Train, Rumors, etc. There are plenty of comparisons between 33 and 45 from same mix, and while it yields (haha, get it?) a marginally better product, it usually isn't a lot.

Not going to disagree on jazz records recorded in the 1950s and 1960s, a 45 rpm is not going to give you an appreciably better experience than 33, there is not that much additional that can be translated in the sound file source at that point. The same with other APs reissues such as the Doors. I have Strange Days and LA Woman on 45 RPM, because I was able to get the second pressing at a regular price, but I would rather have the 33 of those it is indeed a marginal difference on those if that.

To my ears Levi gets quite a bit more definition out of the master here. Whether that is simply the 45 rpm, or better cutting work, or both, it sounds much better than my 2016.

The source may be the same, but the vinyl mastering makes a big difference.

This does sound better than the 2016 and the 1998.

I know we've wish cast 'mastered direct from the analog tape' pressings in the past, but if we can't get those and all we have the digital transfers, I think I'd like to see the first 4 single LP albums cut over 2 LPs. I'm loving the sound on this. it pops.

EDIT: I forgot, Vitalogy has been cut to 2 discs.

And brickwalled, so the original single LP sounds better even though it's over 50 minutes crammed on
