at what point will the republicans be able to turn this around and blame the dems for obstructing the process and impeding government progress? cuz you know that will happen at some point, and a large amount of their voters (and independents) will agree.Halifax2TheMax said:Dems better NOT cut a deal. Fuck the repubs. They had their opportunities to be “responsible” and respectful. They have no decorum and you can’t trust them. At all. Let them twist and burn. What? They are the majority. There is no chance of that happening or for it working politically if they attempt it. Everyone knows the deal here.HughFreakingDillon said:

Yes but we know how republicans act when it comes to rules and norms. If there is a way to wriggle out of a commitment with dems to fuck things up they will do it.mrussel1 said:
As far as I know, the rules for the congress applies to all members, not just the majority. Therefore, any member(s) could call for the no confidence vote.static111 said:
Is that concession in writing on a legal document or just a promise from McCarthy though? Republicans break promises all the time. Better to get it all in writing first. And could the minority party theoretically call a floor vote on replacing the speaker? If so wouldn't that make them look bad for holding up the government, especially as it pertains to the right wing rage machine. I say let the Republicans sort it themselves.mrussel1 said:
If he did not follow his promises, then the D's could call for a new House speaker and start all over again. Remember that's a concession already extracted, moving the number to five members vs a majority for a no confidence type of vote. The D's would absolutely protect themselves that way.static111 said:If Dems bail them out McCarthy will not stick to any promises. That would be the stupidest thing they could do, opening the door for impeachment and Huter's lap top...and who knows what other hijinks. Let the Rs sort out their own mess.Scio me nihil scire

But I disagree with H2M. At some point there, there is value in extracting concessions and having a Speaker that the D's can live with. I'm not sure when that point comes, but completely sidelining the Freedom Idiots would be a real win. And if they don't vote for the eventual speaker, they are neutered for the whole congress.0 -

Yes. More likely would be a moderate R grows unhappy and puts up another moderate R. Kinzinger was on CNN last night saying there's like 15-20 R's from purple districts who would be the one's to watch in this scenario.cblock4life said:

I don't know that it would be McCarthy. I am saying sometimes you take a win when you didn't expect it. Remember, at this point the alternative might be even more power for the MAGA conference. Do we prefer that or that there is a moderate Republican speaker? For me, that choice is easy.Halifax2TheMax said:
