Dems better NOT cut a deal. Fuck the repubs. They had their opportunities to be “responsible” and respectful. They have no decorum and you can’t trust them. At all. Let them twist and burn. This is what needs to happen to the repub party. It’ll then need to rise from the ashes. Good luck.
at what point will the republicans be able to turn this around and blame the dems for obstructing the process and impeding government progress? cuz you know that will happen at some point, and a large amount of their voters (and independents) will agree.

What? They are the majority. There is no chance of that happening or for it working politically if they attempt it. Everyone knows the deal here.

If Dems bail them out McCarthy will not stick to any promises.  That would be the stupidest thing they could do, opening the door for impeachment and Huter's lap top...and who knows what other hijinks.  Let the Rs sort out their own mess.
If he did not follow his promises, then the D's could call for a new House speaker and start all over again.  Remember that's a concession already extracted, moving the number to five members vs a majority for a no confidence type of vote.  The D's would absolutely protect themselves that way.
Is that concession in writing on a legal document or just a promise from McCarthy though?  Republicans break promises all the time.  Better to get it all in writing first.  And could the minority party theoretically call a floor vote on replacing the speaker?  If so wouldn't that make them look bad for holding up the government, especially as it pertains to the right wing rage machine.  I say let the Republicans sort it themselves.
As far as I know, the rules for the congress applies to all members, not just the majority.  Therefore, any member(s) could call for the no confidence vote.
Yes but we know how republicans act when it comes to rules and norms.  If there is a way to wriggle out of a commitment with dems to fuck things up they will do it.

Those people already blame Democrats for everything, so I don't think there is much chance of any swing or important voters blaming Ds.

But I disagree with H2M.  At some point there, there is value in extracting concessions and having a Speaker that the D's can live with.  I'm not sure when that point comes, but completely sidelining the Freedom Idiots would be a real win. And if they don't vote for the eventual speaker, they are neutered for the whole congress.

There's no way people other than the deplorable base (and who gives a shit what they think at this point anyway?) will blame anyone other than republicans for this nonsense. Not happening folks.

+1.  And NP crying about past practice and how embarrassing this is….no, this is embarrassing for the RP, not everyone.  She should be laughing her ass off every time they ask her about this.  If history paints them all as assholes, like FF, they ALL deserve it.

And can a dem be elected SOH if they get the magic number with R voting for him?  There’s the hard left looney tunes solution.

Yes. More likely would be a moderate R grows unhappy and puts up another moderate R. Kinzinger was on CNN last night saying there's like 15-20 R's from purple districts who would be the one's to watch in this scenario.

The narrative I'm seeing is that this is healthy for the GOP...it shouldn't be easy, it's better than double digit inflation, open borders, etc.

I don't know that it would be McCarthy.  I am saying sometimes you take a win when you didn't expect it.  Remember, at this point the alternative might be even more power for the MAGA conference.  Do we prefer that or that there is a moderate Republican speaker?  For me, that choice is easy.

I agree, but I think it should be on the Rs with no help from the Dems.  They will go back on any concessions and can't be trusted.  Let them own it all.
